I think the hardest part about Danganronpa's Death Game isn't even the game itself, it's the participants. There are a lot of intelligent characters in the series, whether them being the killer or the case-solver. You can think of all the strategies you want but if the others are as smart as you are, you're still pretty much fucked. That's what makes the game so good though. It's so tiring to see Death Games where everyone is an idiot.
Agreed, and don't forget about the outside world. It's effed up already, so most of his ideas wouldn't have helped in any way, shape or form

What I find amusing about Celest’s death is that she thought she was going to die an elegant death and stand out, but then was killed in one of the most common causes of death, a car accident
It's probably the most symbolic of all the executions in THH. And just to elaborate: Leon was pelted to death with baseballs in a way that references a form of training for japanese baseball players which also referenced his adversity towards practice, Mondo is executed in a manner that references Little Black Sambo ( I'm not listing those details so check it out yourself) and not to mention his death could be refered to as an accident with the Motercycle he was riding on (Not unlike his brother's death), Alter Ego is destroyed in a very over the top manner as if to express Monokuma's willingness to prevent the cast from escaping just to make them despair, and Junko's execution likely references her lack of remorse for the cast as she doesn't seem to be affected mentally when she goes through the executions her classmates were killed in. However for Celeste, She's given a grand looking setup for an execution but then she dies in a rather boring in unremarkable way. Celeste was prepared for her execution even welcoming it but in the end she was killed in what amounts to a car accident, She can't redo her death and she can't plan a different way to kill Hifumi And Taka after all she's dead and she can't change that, in the end she was confined to her own destiny, Taeko Yasuhiro is a boring girl with a boring end and that is truly the most tragic story of THH.

Considering that Monokuma is white (you're doomed) and black (you can fight back), I think it has a connection with Hope and Despair that are heavy elements from the anime (I'm not familiar with the franchise, so someone can clear this up).

Well, Monokuma is black and white to simulate hope and despair. The white half looks approachable and friendly, and the black side is malicious and twisted. Monokuma isn't just a killing machine, he will actively help students in passive ways, especially in DR V3. Monokuma acts the way he does in DR: GBD because he (Alter Ego) believes that Usami captures the hope for him.
The Mastermind twist was honestly one of the best twists I've seen in fiction, it was so unpredictable and unexpected unless you got spoiled ofcz. If any of y'all actually figured out the Mastermind's identity before Chapter 6, my hat's off to you.
Also the novel Danganronpa IF, made by the official creators, describes what would happen if Mukuro (twin sister who got impaled) betrayed Junko and worked with everyone.
How to survive
Step 1. be yasuhiro
Step 2. get carried through the first death game not doing anything.
Step 3. be such a loser that you dont get invited to meetings and therefore not being in more death games
4. Have plot armor and/or be the main character

I've always found one thing strange about Junko... everyone else has ONE talent (Nagito is the Ultimate Lucky Student, Toko is the Ultimate Writer, etc.) but Junko has 3, count them 3 talents. Ultimate Fashionista, Ultimate Analysist (as Danganronpa Zero shows) and Ultimate Despair.
Well except Izuru who is the Ultimate Ultimate.

For anyone reading this there are more characters with more ultimate talents for example: Ryoma Hoshi, Ultimate Prisoner and Tennis Pro.

Dont think that the guy that shouts "THAT WAS A LIE OR WAS IT" after every lie that he says isnt a good liar. A good liar isnt known as a liar. A good liar is trusted. Kokichi is none of these things.
Personally, I'd find workarounds every chance I get. Loopholes in rules, pushing boundaries, and even play along with Monokuma, using the 'I'm plotting murder' card and asking as many questions as possible for the sake of information. The last bit may end up failing but regardless _information is key_ as well as exploiting the resources we're given and doing our best to plot. As for murder itself, I think finding situations where a set up that is triggered by someone else (rules state the one who deals the killing blow is blackened). Set up all the traps you want and leave 'em for someone else to find and activate on their own. Again. Information and manipulation of the rules is critical and would be the ideal strategy.

@@sensitiivv_ I wouldn't see how we're treating him like a maid. This isnt forcing him to do things for us. Its a matter of keeping enemies close and on their good side for possible information. We arent grilling him for facts or asking for favors. Anything he wants to divilge or share to us by staying in his good graces is on him. Not on us. This is the long game we're playing. True this strategy may not be the best given Junko's analytical skills, but at least its a better shot than just straight up going directly into killing each other.

@@sensitiivv_ You're right in that regard. It is a huge gamble. Especially since we're in the middle of a _death game_ of all things. In a situation like that- at least for me, if the rules are clear, and there's a decent chance I'm not getting out of there alive, I'd rather take the risk to uncover whats _actually_ happening than play into just 'kill someone' to escape. For all we know, given Monokuma's statememt after the video motive in ch. 1. He wants us to despair. Thats all. Logically speaking that alone spells out that even if someone _did_ make it out, it would be with horrible strings attached. In this case along with 'freedom' youre left knowing you just got all of your friends from the past two years killed, you family and other friends outside the school are dead now too. The world has ended and you're forced to stay inside the school forever, or be forced to venture into the wasteland that is now the world. That or in my mind at the time- Monokuma would just kill them off at the end maybe, probably fudging the rule about not being allowed to kill more than two people. Because they're a dick like that.
I know I'm super late (I just recently finished Danganronpa on my own), but I want to put down what I believe is the best killing strategy and probably one of the biggest missed opportunities Naegi could've taken.
At 15:23 the two bros were having a competition to see who can stay in the sauna the longest, with our protag as the scout to see who left first. All Naegi would have to do is lock them both in there, turn up the temperature as much as possible, and then leave them to get burned alive. It should only take them an hour or so to die and there would be no evidence against him because no one was around nor did they know about the competition until after Naegi told everyone about it.
Unless one of these extremely beefy dudes break the door, or anyone sees makoto coming out of the locker room. Iirc the locker room was right next to the rooms, the dining hall and the washing room, where most students will be. If any one of them steps out and sees makoto his ass is toast
Spoilers for Danganronpa V3
I may be incorrect but I’m pretty sure as long as Kyoko Kirigiri was alive, it would be literally impossible to get away with a murder as she is the Ultimate Detective, and is able to pick up on the smallest mannerisms and such, this can also be proved by the 3rd game when Shuichi, also an ultimate detective, was able to solve the 5th murder case off little evidence and intuition, not even something Monokuma was able to do, so what I’m trying to say is, no matter how amazing and foolproof your murder seemed it probably would’ve been discovered by Kyoko Kirigiri no matter what

Makoto has so good luck actually. Everything that went bad for him eventually turned and saved him(broken bathroom door being bad for him, but saving him in the trial) so he is pretty lucky.

I feel that a lot of the murders in the series could be solved with simply staying in a triad, take ch 2 for instance, what if victim had talked to killer and killer’s new best friend? Then the trio would have worked together to man up!! It limits the variable unit of other people going in the moment of things unless its a….special chapter….where a triad would be more at risk
Things you need to do when in a Death Game situation:
Of course, death game participants would never trust each other so the thing you need to do is manipulate them to your trap/ Use them as a shield or meat shield whatever/ Stay quiet/ Cooperate with the discussions/Stay in the dark and kill them if you had the chance. Even if you're innocent you will kill somebody for the sake of your life. That's a rule.

Remember one important rule:
Don’t be an idiot and follow people to certain location. Especially if they asked you with a note and if they want to meet up close or during nighttime. Many murders happen because someone asked a character to meet up with them, or a character ends up dead because they decided to follow a random note. Never meet up with anyone!

What i find intersting is that Celeste could survive if using the V3 Rule "First come, First Serve" Since the one who killed Taka is Hifumi, Thus she could survive if using the V3 Rule
6:30 a small edit to your suggestion; try to stock up on food and water as soon as possible. Someone may decide to poison the food supply and if you have your own section of sustenance you would be safe. It also greatly cuts down on the times you have to exit your room.

Try playing the Danganronpa mystery games! They're a lot better than the animes because there's so much more time to flesh out the characters and you can get to know them and their motivations a lot better. Not to mention there's a more satisfying "aha!" moment in figuring out the killer using your own deduction as the clues fall into place.

honestly, there's no surefire way to survive. chihiro was killed in a fit of rage, mukuro was killed by someone she trusted, and angie was killed just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. doing just about anything makes you a viable victim. and if you stay in your room the whole time, someone like kaede will assume you're the mastermind and murder you when you're not in your room. the only way to live is by pure luck
How to win Danganronpa:
Be Phoenix Wright. The man makes logical leaps taller than a house and jumps on the smallest contradictions, and gets the answer right.

One thing I'd like to point out regarding Celeste's slip of tongue is that in the Japanese, she actually uses the word かれら, a plural form of かれ (man/dude/guy). So, it's closer to "those guys" instead of "them", which makes her look more suspicious since the two victims were guys. Technically, you *could* use かれら to include a mixed group of guys and girls, just like how in English people can use "guys" when talking to or about a group even if the group isn't exclusively male, but I think it'd be a little hard to pull off since her use of "those guys" is pretty on the nose, considering the two victims are male. Still doable, though.

These are good ideas until you learn that Monokuma wants the killers to fail. The events of the third game prove that he'll actively help the students if they're short on evidence. Throughout the entire series, investigations take a varied amount of time and always seem to end once the students have just enough evidence to figure out who it is. Monokuma is also fully in charge of when the trial ends, meaning he can keep it going until the students get the right answer.
The only way to truly win is to just not die. But anyone who's finished V3 knows that surviving isn't enough. You need to actively beat Monokuma and escape to win.

@@Cholata123 V3, Kokichi had one hell of a master plan, and managed to augment it when Maki added a wrinkle. Two potential victims, three potential culprits. It had only two flaws, truthfully. Underestimating how sharp Shuichi is, and underestimating how BS Monokuma can be. Kokichi’s trap for Monokuma could easily have been spun as a twist if it succeeded. After all, Kokichi was bang on the money that the rules made no sense unless there was an audience to this game.
I feel like Monokuma only actively tried to Guide the students in 2 Trials in V3, and V3 also has different reasons to why continue the killing game compared to the first 2 games.

In V3, the Idea is to give entertainment to an audience, so If the killer wins, It shortens the entertainment of the audience. The ideal scenario is so that no killer beats the game so the killing game lasts longer. In DR2 it's the exact opposite. Junko's plan would be exceptionally easier If the killer won, since her goal was to overtake everyone who's died body and "Junkofy all mankind" using her words. If the blackened succeeded in evading being found out, that goal would be much easier, since in 1 Trial, 15 students could potentialy die, and Junko could take over all of them just like that.
Monokuma also leaves important information that could lead to the killer out of the Monokuma File. Stuff like time of death or cause of death, he could include these informations in every Monokuma file to help the other students find the killer, If he truly wanted them to succeed and the blackened to fail. He also tries to hide other information like the stuff about the body discovery announcement in DR2 Chapter 2, but Nagito pressured him to give that information, which he was reluctant to.
Monokuma doesnt Always help a specific side, he helps a side If the case is "unbalanced", he tries to make both sides have a chance in Trials, at least in the 1st 2 games.
V3 SPOILERS

Well, don't forget, that V3 is set in an entirely different universe. Tsumugi is not a Junko. She is a copycat mastermind who tries to imitate Junko, leading to her misjuging the actions of the other Students which led to her activly supporting the surviving students. After all her motive was different from Junko. While Junko just wanted despair for the world, Tsumugi wanted to give the world a good show.

1. Stay in my room.
2. Stay on Monokuma's good side.
3. Let my secret be exposed. (I don't care if it's humiliating. Would you rather be embarrassed and teased for a little bit or live?)
4. Put gel in my hair and get and ahoge so I become the new main character and have a higher chance of living.
5. Avoid everyone and close relationships at all costs.

I honestly can’t believe no one ever came up with the idea of everyone always being in groups of three or more. If no one has the opportunity to commit a murder, all of the group’s efforts can go toward escape or thwarting the mastermind.
But what if a one group is a group of killers
@@finnlaysloan2649 only one person can win the killing game by its own rules, even if all three people in a group have the intent to win by killing, they aren’t allies, and whoever acts loses. If you kill one group member, it’ll be your word against the remaining member’s, 50/50 at best. Kill both and it’ll be nearly impossible to get away with it. Kill anyone from another group, even two from the same group, you have a surviving witness and your own group giving you up for ditching them, so unless your group is you and two people willing to die for you, there’s no way to kill and be sure you’ll get away with it.
Monokuma would most likely threaten them with something if they don't murder
I feel like a killing would become inevitable, though. The group finds clues to their escape through obtaining access to the floors, which only happens after a class trial. If no class trials had taken place, everyone would still be stuck on floor 1. The laptop from the library, the information on Ikusaba Mukuro, the Bio Lab and the classroom where the Tragedy occured, are all on higher floors. I don't know how the group would be able to escape without that information. If they didn't have hope of escape, I think it's only naturally that someone will eventually crack. Unless they become so used to it that they all come to terms with their imprisonment and decide to live there, or someone sacrifices themselves through suicide... Then again, they're all untimates, so maybeeee they could find some way of escape, even if they have to stay on the first floor.

The sad part about Sayaka’s death was that she thought she could get out and get help for the other students if she killed Leon. She had no idea the others would die if she got away with it, so in her mind she was taking 1 life to save 15 lives

Also the reason she was shown her idol group is because her blood family doesn't mean much to her so the group is her new family. She only had something in common with 2 ppl and since she was actually kinda friends with Makoto that left the person who cannonly likes her, Leon. So she had to choose to kill someone who adored her or her only friend at the school :((

actually according to the games she’s fully aware of the fact she’s sacrificing everyone else, monokuma makes it clear that everyone else dies if someone ‘graduates.’ however it does show that she’s not sure of herself and has empathy for the other students, since she writes leon’s name on the wall. she does it to save her idol group and doesn’t view her classmates as family at that point

Wait, but wouldn't trust and a good connection with the rest of the cast help significantly with suspicion. Along with that, staying in you room means you have no alibi. I feel like always being a recluse that doesn't trust anyone and never having an alibi for any of the cases would make you the new Kokichi Ouma, always suspected of the murder with people easily believing that you would be with minimal evidence and minimal hesitation, which means if you acctually do commit a murder, it's going to be a lot harder to convince people you didn't. I also think it's worthy of note that Byakuya going off on his own isn't the smartest move either. Everyone else is going in a big group, so if anyone is a planning a murder on day one like he suspects, than they could slip away from the group and kill him easier than if he just stuck with them. Same goes with partners. Any situation where you can be found alone with one other person is bad. If you can't stick with the group, where everyone is way less likely to kill at all, than try to convince at least two others to come with you. That way, one person will be a lot less likely to kill In front of the other. If you pick two people that don't seem related, they'd be less likely to be averse to killing in front of the other, but pick to people that look like they have a bond of some kind and they'd be more likely to work together. Pick your poison. I mean, it's day one so neither poison is that potent, but still. Also, stop being a snarky b i t c h Togami. As I said, trust is a massive part of this game, especially if you're planning on murder, and I might be wrong, but I feel there might be a bit of a bias on deciding whether the blue-blooded, snarker jerk that said MULTIPLE TIMES that he was going to win or fricking Chihiro killed someone in cold blood. Though, that's just how I see it. I may be wrong, so feel free to correct me.

tbh, Sayaka's initial plan seems absolutely genius and fool proof....her only mistake was she chose someone to strong for her to kill, but otherwise the plan is flawless!
Even if she killed, which was originally planned before Leon did the killing, Makoto still wins from the broken door and the nameplates.

eh, Leon's a talented athlete but it's more natural genius (in a subconscious way, he's still kinda dumb) than physical strength, the dude doesn't practice at all, so aside from being able to run fast i doubt he's much stronger than an average dude of his height.

I believe it was confirmed when interviewing the people that made the game that the reason the dining hall is locked until 7 am is specifically to prevent people poisoning the food during the night.
Actually the dining hall isn’t locked. The students mutually agreed to stay in their rooms from 10 till 7 every night. There’s no monokuma enforced rule saying that they actually need to abide by it. That’s how the first murder happened to begin with, the baseball player broke their mutually agreed upon guideline.
@@leannkennett905 you reference the first murder but completely forget that in that same case sayaka grabs the knife to attack leon BEFORE 10 pm even though there were people in the dining hall when she did it specifically because she cant go to the dining hall at night. Monokumas night time announcement states every night ‘some areas are locked off’ obviously you arent locked in your rooms but the dining hall specifically is locked to prevent poisoning of the food
@@yosh3301 I’m referencing the first murder because per their agreement they aren’t supposed to be leaving their rooms after “lights out” but the baseball pro did leave his room after lights out and wasn’t punished by Monokuma for it. Ergo it’s a rule that they made and he isn’t enforcing it. So going into the dining hall at night wouldn’t be out of the question. (I doubt that the kitchen and dining hall would be off limits at night as there are lots of people who eat late at night. If I remember properly even the swimming pro goes into the kitchen late in the night at one point.)

Ye from what I heard the reason why it feels so much more brutal then the other executions from the first game is because it originated from Danganronpa Distrust, the OG version of THH where it was way way more dark.

I actually think that all of major the events in the killing game up until the Shuichi, Maki, Himiko and Keebo refused to vote were planned by Team Danganronpa. So I don’t think Monokuma actually had anything to worry about. In a killing game like the KSL and KST, I don’t think the mastermind would let devices like the electrobomb and the remote control exist.I think they would make a rule aganist it.

I suspect Mondo confessed because he knew that if they got it wrong, and he got away with it, everyone else would die. He probably just choked, or let his honour get the better of him. He didn’t kill Chihiro intentionally and he knew he was guilty, so knowing that his escape would kill everyone else and mean he was responsible for like 13 deaths he just couldn’t do it and had to admit it.
I think that jury-dies rule would really screw me over too, I don’t think I could murder anyone even in this situation regardless, but knowing that getting away with it would kill everyone else would be far too much.
To all the people who a never heard of Danganronpa and liked this then I highly recommend you to look through this franchise because it goes a LOT deeper than this one killing game. It’s one of those things where you have to go through the trilogy games and anime’s (and don’t get me started on the spin-offs and novels) to get the full story. If you have a lot of time on your hands otherwise then I really advise you to go through this entire story and lore

1. she didn't like Leon specifically so she wouldn't feel guilty about killing him, she didn't know winning the game meant everyone else dying.
2. he's a womaniser who wants to be a musician, she's the number one pop idol of Japan, so he'd be the easiest to lure.
mondo would have been suspicious even if he didnt say anything about the blue jersey. in the game, when the body is discovered, he refers to chihiro as a "dude" in a certain sentence, a very little detail that kyoko does not pass over and reveals in the trial, explaining that mondo used to call girls "chicks" and boys "dudes", which is pretty awesome from kyoko if you ask me.

I don't think there is any way to win. Junko has such analytical prowess and resources at her disposal that she's one of the few villains that could outmaneuver the Joker. Unless you had foresight or vast prep-time, she'll win.
