Even if you draw the cutoff at 1997, it seems very random which 2D games were brought to US and which were left in Japan. It's funny they clearly felt FMV games would sell better than lots of 2D sprite games, it was a crazy brief moment in time.
2d games and 2d/3d hybrid games look so good on the Saturn. I wish Konami would have supported it with their best beat em ups and sports titles though. We should have got Turtles/Simpsons/Metamorphic Force/X-Men/Sunset Riders/Mystic Warriors/Run and Gun/Soccer Superstars etc.
Yeah, the PSX and Saturn lost out on a ton of the 80s and early 90s properties. I still can't believe the Saturn was dead enough for Capcom to not release the Ram Cart games here.

I don’t know why, because i never had a Saturn, but I love the games from this time and console, the early 3D mixed with 2D sprites just required so much creativity from the developers, and as such has quite a unique charm.
It's an era where a developer's elbow grease and your own mind's imagination help create the true picture you saw. It's like how your internal version of an Atari game's visuals differ from what someone else may have thought it looked like in their mind. The sensation is lost in the modern world where everything is trying to look like what we already know.

The saddest part about the Saturn is that devs were JUST learning how to maximize the machine by 1997 & a lot of optimization tricks like LODs & streaming from the disc were implemented in 1996. The 3D games from the Saturn in 1997+ completely dispelled the myth that it couldn't handle 3D. It was harder but you had tricks like using the infinite planes to completely go around the need for using polygons for a ground. A lot of the images we got from unreleased games like Sonic Adventures, RE2 Saturn and Shenmu were awesome. Luckily most came to the Dreamcast.. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Sonic R, the Shenmu Saturn game, Fighting Vipers, etc look great for the time. I also think it's really cool to see how each console had its strengths. Playstation had better transparencies. Saturn had much less texture warping. The N64 had a z buffer. Etc. There was never a scenario where the Saturn would have beat the Playstation because Sony's architecture was just perfectly suited for that era but realistically the Saturn could have beaten the N64 like it did in Japan if Sega didn't botch the launch year and bog us down with the 32x. Sega's last 2 consoles just had so much potential. I miss that era. Insane innovation back then.

@@GameRaveTV man if they had just launched with a Sonic exclusive within launch and dropped the 32X self-competition they would have at least remained competitive through 96. Sonic was huge in America. People forget that the Genesis wasn't really competitive with Nintendo until after 1991. He's the 2nd largest video game character in the early and mid 90s. The N64 literally sold millions of units in America just by the success of Mario 64. I don't think Bug is a great game but it really outlined what they should have done in 1994 or 1995 - sell Sonic as a mostly 2D game with 3D elements like boss battles. You're right about the RAM expansion. They could have used that to basically argue that the Saturn was a competitor with the NeoGeo in the 2D realm. Fighting games were singlehandedly keeping arcades alive in the late 90s so you think they would have seen that market potential. Sigh. In the 2000s they were listening to the Japanese and making Japanese exclusives & porting over a bunch of American 2D games or shmups. Then around 2009 when the leadership that eventually was in charge of the Xbox One disaster rose to prominence they freaked out over the amount of anime and graphic novels using the Microsoft name.
Hi. Two questions. 1.collage slan and nba jam tournament? Are the same game? 2 .blazing heroes and mystaria realm have something diferences?. Thanks Sorry .i think you miss megaman x3
Hello! Thank you so much for the questions! 1. College Slam and NBA Jam are two difference games - College Slam was created using the assets and engine of NBA Jam, and was essentially Acclaim trying to make a quick buck off of the college fans. 2. Blazing Heroes and Mystaria are the same game under different names due to licensing issues (I believe with Myst's studio, but I can't recall). Aside from the packaging and title screen / fine print, they should be the exact same game. Hope this helps, have a great week!
Did Olympic Soccer Atlanta 96 get released in North America? I am working on a complete North American set, and that's one title I can't even find a true picture of, like no one owns a copy. Winning post is easier to find.
Hey Zach! It did indeed, otherwise it wouldn't have ben in this video. I found a disc only copy sold on ebay here: www.ebay.com/itm/Olympic-Soccer-Sega-Saturn-1996-Disc-Only-/351893287028?hash=item51ee797074%3Ag%3ACiUAAOSwzaJX7nQ-&nma=true&si=tZda9WNvNxj32Sv%252BDHzLkYatMkg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 There are also supposedly two new ones on Amazon, but I'd ask for verification before you order: www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00002STWN/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new It's easier to find if you drop the Atlanta 1996 part of it - most people just refer to it as "Olympic Soccer", since that's how the spine reads and the front artwork treats the sub-title like a decorative banner. Hope this helps! Jason
А где Grandia? Классная же игра была, одна из лучших на Сатурн, а на Дримкасте так вообще её продолжение супер удачное было, хотя учитывая её колекцию спортивных игр, каждую Не спортивную игру можно считать одной из лучших

Agree with you there. I was trying to match up the Saturn's internal menu style and mimic it (the pulsating speakers when listening to music, I think). It felt okay at the time, but looking back at it now, it was way too big.

Christmas Nights is a Demo Disc (a fantastic demo disc, but a demo disc). This was just for full retail releases. Once I have the last demo I need, I'll do a full video of all the Sega Saturn demos.
2:43 and 13:05 - That threw me for a loop for a second, lol. I was like "Wait, didn't I see this earlier". Was the game ever released as "Mystaria" in the US, though?
As a Saturn collector I have a question that has been bugging me, I got a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga a few years back and I never noticed it until recent, but the cover to the manual is the same thickness as the rest of the pages. I think that's odd since every other Saturn game I have ever seen the cover is much thicker than the rest of the pages. So my question to you is that normal??? Or did I get ripped off buying a copy with a reproduction manual? I've been trying to look up info on the internet with no results. So if you have a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga in you collection let me know if the cover is thicker or not. Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
I have a full set, every game in the video was used from my personal collection. So yes, I own DU:CCE NLE (that's just fun to abbreviate). The number of them is not the problem - it's how many were actually acquired by the public. The game was never available at retail, and was online only at Sega.com in an era where online ordering was still relatively new. There really is no way to tell how many are out there, though it is the rarest game in the library, despite people thinking PD Saga is. More curious is that the game literally *does not* display any Net Link options unless the Net-Link is actually detected, otherwise is boots and looks just like the vanilla CCE. If it weren't for the disc art, it'd be a nightmare to figure out.
That one you may be on your own... ^_^;; The only tip I can give there is that the Net-Link edition is literally just the new disc and extra manual tucked inside the standard CCE case. Check every since CCE you ever see to make sure the Purple-ish Net-Link edition isn't hiding inside.
Oh I do. Lol. It an obsession for me. Did you see the video of he girl that found one at a closing video store for $20??? I was SOOOOOO jealous. I WISH THAT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME!!!!!!
Just be patient, it took me *years* to find most of my regretfully named grails (NBA 2Ball PSX, Netlink CCE, etc..). As long as you're vigilant (and have the needed funds) you'll eventually complete the quest. :)
Yeah, I've been collecting for the saturn since 2002. Some games I bought back then for $20-$30 are now 10x that. So a few years ago I decided to go for a full set. I think I still need 60-70 titles. Mostly sports/obscure titles.
Hello! This was done with real games on real hardware - sadly I have no intentions of collecting the import library of the Saturn (despite there being a ton of great games...). Thank you though!
@GameRaveTV yeah, the contrast between something kinda boring.... and then something RADICAL! Just watching it go from high-speed gameplay to basic Asteroids reminded me of those 90s Six Flags commercials lol
Somehow missed your question: About 250 games, which include the NetLink versions and counting Mystaria and Blazing Heroes as two games (it's the same game released with a different name). Christmas Nights not included due to being a demo. XD

That's how Sega rolled. They were always the sports heavy system thanks to EA and Sega themselves going all the way back to the Genesis. And I can't even fathom how many more Soccer games get add in once Euro and Japanese territories are mixed in!
I don't know if it would be garbage, but the US system never really stood a chance with Sega's missteps and Sony's price move. The import side of Saturn had so much more to offer.
The Saturn was never really built for 3D in mind. It's a 2D powerhouse though. Some amazing conversion from Capcom and SNK are on there, especially in Japan.
@@GameRaveTV Yeah I think people don't get this about the system. This console came out at a unique transitional time, and not all things about how things would play out were clear. A lot of people at the time did not like most 3D stuff, because it looked like utter crap compared to mature 2D stuff which we were used to. Also, a 3D console would have to compete with computers. Contrary to popular belief, N64 3D capabilities were a JOKE even compared to modest computers at the time (say a Pentium 2 with a budget ATI rage card). Hell it was a joke compared to my PowerMac 6100! The only reason it and Sony PS succeeded was because of massive amounts of money thrown at marketing them and the fact that most of the consumers in the market are either dumb or kids that don't know any better.
The consoles also succeeded by being a far cheaper price point, an easier experience, not having compatibility issues, much better universally targeted exclusives, not having to worry about DOS prompts, or understanding all the computer building, and never needing to be patched...well...back then at least. 20 years of my life was spent in gaming retail, and I can assure you people weren't dumb nor didn't know any better. They went for what was best for them, and the majority of them were console folks. I was in my early 20s when the PSX. SAT, and the N64 were in their hey day, and I was so anti-PC you'd thought I was abused by one. I could never get PC Games to properly run, yet I just slapped the console version into the proper box and away I went. I also appreciated how much elbow grease went into making console games look superior to their previous iterations on the same hardware. No need for new graphics card or more ram, etc. At a time when people were spending $1300 for a PC or $250 for a console, I would take the console every time with $1050 worth of games.
It wasn't officially released in America, only Japan. As the video states, this is every American released game. Homebrew and fan translations don't count.
5:55 Might be because I've been up all night but... I found that hysterically funny! 🤣

Hercules on the N64 was a Blockbuster rental. I have never heard of any Sega Saturn game being an exclusive rental.
I'm watching this just because there's an RPG I have vague memories of but can't find. Hoping I find it! (pretty sure it was for the Saturn...)
I have a full US Set for PSX and Saturn, hit me up with your description and I can help pin point it. =)
@@GameRaveTV I'm almost positive its Shining Wisdom. One of those games I rented but never completed, but I did enjoy it. Cheers! Thanks for the vid, that helped a bunch.
@@drbeavis4211 Glad to be of service! ^_^
Great collection!
4:52 lol that transition
There's a few of those - but there's a ton more in the PlayStation "5 Second" video. :D
Great transition at 11:26
Thanks! If you haven't seen it yet, check out the PlayStation one. There are a LOT of transitions like that. :D
After seeing this it's easy to see how the Saturn bombed in the west. A ton of these games were on the PS1 and the Saturn was lacking big games like Final Fantasy and killer apps. Very good games but nothing that would have blown me away like Mario 64 or Crash Bandicoot.
Yep - Sega had a great arcade base of games to hold the system up, but they burned devs too much between the Sega CD and 32x.
You forgot Christmas nights into dreams sampler.
Hello!
That's a Sampler aka a Demo - these videos are strictly full retail game releases.
I still think it's worth mentioning, I mean it did earn a sega Saturn exclusive badge on the front.
28 fighting games in US. Not bad at all.
It still breaks my heart with no US RAM / ROM cart games. Street Fighter Alpha 3 Saturn was a dream.
What an underrated and great system! Shining The Holy Ark is one of my favorite RPGs of all Time! Sega Rally, Virtua Cop 1 & 2, Virtua Fighter, The Last Bronx and Fighters Megamix are Fire! 🔥 However you gotta collect some Japanese imports, God I wish I had a copy of PoliceNauts and Radiant SilverGun! 🙄
I actually had my Sega Saturn modded and ended up never buying an import game. The Polymega thankfully brought me back into the fun. :D
Where is Wipeout 2097 (Wipeout XL in the US)?
Wasn't released in the US, hence not in the video. ^_^
I know this comment is over a year old, but WipEOut XL did come to the US on Saturn in 97. I used to own a copy of the game back in the day.
really cool video
Hi. Two questions.
1.collage slan and nba jam tournament? Are the same game?
2 .blazing heroes and mystaria realm have something diferences?.
Thanks
Sorry .i think you miss megaman x3
I found a disc only copy sold on ebay here:
www.ebay.com/itm/Olympic-Soccer-Sega-Saturn-1996-Disc-Only-/351893287028?hash=item51ee797074%3Ag%3ACiUAAOSwzaJX7nQ-&nma=true&si=tZda9WNvNxj32Sv%252BDHzLkYatMkg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
There are also supposedly two new ones on Amazon, but I'd ask for verification before you order:
www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00002STWN/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
It's easier to find if you drop the Atlanta 1996 part of it - most people just refer to it as "Olympic Soccer", since that's how the spine reads and the front artwork treats the sub-title like a decorative banner.
Hope this helps!
Jason
I could think of nothing worse than making a sports game
For some it's a dream job. Especially if you get to work with the athletes you admire.
А где Grandia?

Hello! This video covers the American USA set, and did not include Japanese and European libraries.
Grandia was never officially released in the USA for Saturn, only the PlayStation.
Thank you for the comment!
the information at the bottom of the screen needlessly covers too much of the footage of the actual game. especially that white circle on the left.
Agree with you there. I was trying to match up the Saturn's internal menu style and mimic it (the pulsating speakers when listening to music, I think). It felt okay at the time, but looking back at it now, it was way too big.
@@GameRaveTV i kind of wish youtube made it easier to let content creators upload (and link) fixed/altered versions of their videos. it feels too punishing for hard work to be ruined by a mistake, but for us viewers to not be able to easily know a better version exists
@@silpheedTandy Well, it could have been worse, it could have been like my PS1 video where I forgot to set the clips to 4x3 mode and not stretched like they are in the All-in-One. :)
Christmas nights into dreams....
Christmas Nights is a Demo Disc (a fantastic demo disc, but a demo disc). This was just for full retail releases. Once I have the last demo I need, I'll do a full video of all the Sega Saturn demos.
USA got some goodies too
Yep, there's something to love for everyone on that little bastard.
2:43 and 13:05 - That threw me for a loop for a second, lol. I was like "Wait, didn't I see this earlier".
Was the game ever released as "Mystaria" in the US, though?
Yes - that was it's first release, and then it was re-released with the new name to a trademark / copyright issue if I recall.
Thanks!!
No, this is correct - Sega went super cheap at the end of the Saturn's life cycle. You're simply looking at a cost cutting measure.
GameRaveTV that's good to hear!!! The cds themselves came in white cardboard, I've seen copies in the black ones online. Did they use both?
Yes, at least two print runs. One white sleeves, one black. I've actually seen one copy that had a mix of both, so not sure how that worked out.
Do you own a copy of Daytona USA C.C.E NetLink edition? Isn't there supposed to only be like a handful in existence??
Thanks!!!
You're welcome!
Fuck getting a PS 4 this is where the real games are at
I would do just about anything for a copy of Daytona USA netlink edition. Literally, just about anything......
That one you may be on your own... ^_^;;
The only tip I can give there is that the Net-Link edition is literally just the new disc and extra manual tucked inside the standard CCE case.
Mostly sports/obscure titles.
zachabama Ya know I need to find my copy I bought when it came out
Hey did you ever finish the All DOS games video?
Ha! I wouldn't even try. :D
i had 49 as a kid
This is supposed to be every North American Sega Saturn game because it seems like there's some games missing is area 51 on there see it 🎮
Area 51 is at the 1:18 mark. It's the full US set. : )
4:38 lol
5:37 Wilhelm Scream
Will there be a video for the Japan releases?
Hello! This was done with real games on real hardware - sadly I have no intentions of collecting the import library of the Saturn (despite there being a ton of great games...). Thank you though!
@@GameRaveTV do you have ANY international games? I’m sure there’s at least 1 of them that you went out of your way to grab😩😩
@@PiyuEris On Saturn, the only import we own is the Mrs' Sailor Moon game. : )
I can't help but think:
00:59 - 6 FLAGS!!
1:05 - 1 flag :(
You have me there - a reference to the theme park?
@GameRaveTV yeah, the contrast between something kinda boring.... and then something RADICAL! Just watching it go from high-speed gameplay to basic Asteroids reminded me of those 90s Six Flags commercials lol
Ahhhh - got it. @@4Legacy
what's the total number released.
Somehow missed your question: About 250 games, which include the NetLink versions and counting Mystaria and Blazing Heroes as two games (it's the same game released with a different name).
Christmas Nights not included due to being a demo. XD
20:10 lol
Do the same for ps1...
... I did. :)
Widescreen, all-in-one.

So many baseball games..
yeah and basketball
6:40 what the hell?
The humor in Die Hard Arcade / Dynamite Deka presented front and center. Thankfully not literally. ^o^
why entries for both blazing heroes 2:45 AND mystaria 13:05? same game, different name.
an awful lotta Baseball, Soccer (Football), and racing games on this console. and That's just for USA. I haven't even touched Japan, or Europe yet
That's how Sega rolled. They were always the sports heavy system thanks to EA and Sega themselves going all the way back to the Genesis.
And I can't even fathom how many more Soccer games get add in once Euro and Japanese territories are mixed in!
9:27 most incompetent developers known to mankind. The GBA could do that better if you program it right.
12:46 superb editing right there.
man, the sautrn could've done so much better. 85% of these titles are hot garbage. such a pity.
I don't know if it would be garbage, but the US system never really stood a chance with Sega's missteps and Sony's price move. The import side of Saturn had so much more to offer.
Man this is so weak compared to Japan. Still love this console but japan got spoiled!!
No lies were detected there.
Damn, majority of Saturn games look like utter shit. Only 2% look good.
The Saturn was never really built for 3D in mind. It's a 2D powerhouse though. Some amazing conversion from Capcom and SNK are on there, especially in Japan.
@@GameRaveTV Yeah youre right about that. 2D games are absolutely outstanding! 3d...kinda looks shitty to be brutally honest...
At a time when people were spending $1300 for a PC or $250 for a console, I would take the console every time with $1050 worth of games.
where is Phantasmagoria you missed it so every games isn't in this video
It wasn't officially released in America, only Japan. As the video states, this is every American released game. Homebrew and fan translations don't count.
