“I just release thing I see people buying basically. And that’s why I probably don’t put out the best tracks, as the bes tracks are probably tracks which I don’t reckon the public are ready for yet.” Oh we are ready Rich! If people were ready for the Richard D. James album in 96, people are ready now.
Not my favourite album of his by quite a bit considering the general assumption. BUT still when I bought this CD in roughly around 2005-2006 I could not believe someone/something could make such noises/music in 1996.
He actually ended up releasing his best work (at the time) It was Drukqs, which critics pannend and a lot of fans were luke warm on, but nowadays it’s considered a masterpiece. I think it lead him to effectively go dark for over decade. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Tuss MySpace releases during that time were a way for him to gauge if people only liked his work if it had the ‘Aphex Twin’ name attached to it. The Syro comeback seemed like he didn’t really care anymore if people appreciate it or not. He’s also become a lot more open and interactive with his fans through his SoundCloud.
As a Dutchie I'll just say that I'm absolutely embarrassed by most of my country's interviewers. The thing is that a lot of these people don't seem to have a genuine interest in the music. Because if they did they would ask better questions. Most of them work for news or media outlets that jump onto the next big thing or whatever is getting traction at the moment. I guess this is true for other countries as well, but Dutch interviewers seem to have a notoriously bad reputation, for good reason.
No wonder he doesn't like doing interwiews. Even though this isn't the worst one I've heard but the angle is very much similar "Oh you like f@*king with people don't you, oh you like being different don't you, oh you get angry with the audience don't you, oh you can't just be normal can you Mr. Twin?" FFS just be mature and have an interesting conversation with the man rather than trying to reveal some motive behind his "trolling"
Interesting to find out he was against putting out the Classics album? Seemed to be a companion to SAW1, both being compilations of old material with reminiscent styles and even almost identical artwork with black instead of white. Wonder if he ever changed his mind about it since he never replaced it with anything and it is still available alongside his other works..

perfectly balancing overly egotistical capital-a Artist from The Great Nation with humble awkward dude that’s like from ireland or smth. makes music n shit
I think hes just innocently excited about the music he makes. A very humble person would still sound pretty pretentious if they made something aphex twin level and tried to explain it.

I don't think Richard realizes how condescending he can be. I used to want to meet him, but now I think he'd probably be an asshole

@@zerocore_ Interesting theory
I don’t know if I’d be ready for whatever he has but I’d still want him to release it anyways so I can be completely blown away by it
He has a weirdly calming voice, I think this is the first time I've heard him speak
the music is so loud at times that I can barely hear him
Is it just me or does the interviewer come across as weirdly hostile at times? A lot of the questions have kind of an accusatory tone to them
yea he sounds a bit of an ass at times, almost like an interrogation than a proper interview. and the questions are a bit cliche.
They usually always do

doesn't seem like he is to me. just that his tone is a bit dry.
@Jupiter Trying to sound like a tough guy on an Aphex Twin video?... Pathetic
Wow! This interview is actually the best one I’ve heard from Rich! And it’s even from VPRO, which is is a Dutch broadcasting network (my homecountry!)

The track ur looking for is “Dont let me startle you”. Richard shared it not that long ago but took it down, i think u can still find it on here.
interesting track.. i was thinking it’d be some well known pop song that charted some time in the 90’s- what makes you think that’s the one?
@@js9415 i read somewhere that it was voted best track of Great Brittain
6:10 that was such a rude thing for the interviewer to say. My god

Came here to ask this
Aphex Twin - Alberto Balsalm
double zero, or zero zero - AKA soap-bar. Alberto Balsam. If you know you know. If not. You don't.

Man... Beautiful enterview but I am diyng here to try to pick Richard voice under so much noise and too loud of his background music...

Love you Rich!!!! Coming to terms!!!!?? Are you dense?!❤
has anyone uncovered which songs he secretly released under monikers that were top 40s that he mentioned?
Who knows if it's even true? He's been known to make stuff up, hehe.
Almost certainly bullshit.
I think he was just saying that to get back at the interviewer who was implying his stuff is unlistenable
Thanks for uploading!
Does someone know the track at 9:48? I think I've heard it before but I just can't remember the name.
