    "afraid of my lack of talent." Trent, you did all of the instruments by yourself and learned them because bands weren't getting the sound you wanted, except drums. That is insanely talented.

      Vlad Tepes Dracul let's see... what about Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, & Jack White? they are also talented people and played almost all the instruments in their first album

    • @dravendfr

      Lap Duy Nguyen Thien Of course they should be greatly revered, the problem is often that the younger audience does not know or understand how truly incredible that is.

      Vlad Tepes Dracul III who cares though. Why do you care so much about random kids and what they know about executing music. Trent isnt even the genius everyone makes him out to be. He had lots of help and ushered into the industry. he had access to knowledge and equipment, its really not as genius as you think. Hes also a liar and closet egomaniac.

      Nick Kapenkar Him and my LOVE of music are the reasons why I am a DJ for 25 years. So much so that my early goth band mates would jokingly tease me nicknamed me Boy Reznor cause all my Synth riffs were dark dance riffs. However I Agree Trent is a Superamazingly talented hombre It’s crazy how much he hated himself

    I remember maybe around 1995....I went to Media Play to buy a new CD, and I saw Further Down The Spiral. The CD cost $3.99 and I thought it was a single or a sampling (CDs generally cost between $12 and $15 back then). I bought the CD, found out it was a full length album, and it literally blew my mind. I frickin loved it! and $3.99!!?....Trent was a true pioneer. I respect the shit out of NIN since that day forward. Also, once you've seen him live....forget about it. Spectacular performer!

    I miss the music industry in the 90's... I never thought I'd say that but there was music stores, more concerts, better exposure in terms of culture...Say what you will I liked digging and taking chances on bands. I didn't mind paying for physical copies (still don't). MTV played music videos from more then just 10 pop bullshit R and B "market-rap" ...good times

I was instantly mesmerized and the first thing I did after the movie i was watching, was TH-cam terminator salvation trailer music. I've listened to the fragile so much I can't even put a number on it. Pretty hate machine is a close second in number of listens. Now the watchmen score is racing to number 1.

  • @katevielle4263

    I completely agree with Trent when he says that "With Teeth" was his most honest record. I noticed that the first time I listened to the thing the whole way through. He was self-reflective on a lot of things when it came to his past & was growing as a person in the songs, and I remember getting so excited as the record went on & on. Trent has such a great way of telling his stories and making you feel a part of it somehow. He's not on a pedestal on the record, it's almost like he's sitting down and telling you something so very personal. The fact that he ever thought of suicide makes me really sad, because he's such a good person.

  • @SomeFilmAwesome
    @SomeFilmAwesome 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Very well done, sir!
    I'm impressed of how you managed to get a narrative deep story out of seemingly regular work-related interviews.
    While watching this I felt how the inner world of a person revolves around his personality, deeds and occupation in life. How that inner world has a life of it's own and, if uncontrolled, can distort your reality, can influence personality in unpredictable ways, somewhat damaging or flatout destructible, can force one's deeds against his values or judgement or will.
    Here we see a story of a human being, flawed like everyone else in many relatable ways. And the best part is when we can clearly see that one can always take responsibility for his fate, for his actions, for who he/she is in the end, fighting off the desires and gaining control over that inner world and, as a result, things outside of it that we call life.
    This film also made me like NIN's song "everything" and gain deep respect for it, now that I've understood the story of a life struggle that inspired it.

    Trent is literally me, man. Ego aside, hearing that he was the only one producing those compositions, writing the lyrics, doing the vocals, most likely engineering them as well. No way am I his equal, but this is my rule of thumb 95% of the time. This man is the epitome of what it means to be musically independent, and to create an entirely new genre.

    I like how at one point he mentions an upcoming album is more like a collection of songs that can stand on their own as opposed to previous albums that are epic as a whole.
    Then a few years later he mentions his new album will be like a whole piece instead of just a collection of songs.
    Both are great ways to look at it. Myself personally I always try to do the next thing differently than the last one to try and keep things fresh.

    Amazing. Saw him once live right up front about 2 years ago.....Didn't get to meet him however maybe someday...Either way I will be following him. I really loved "The Fragile" more than the other albums but every album has it's place.

      Not too surprising. He gets shit from people a lot of the time for no clear reason. Jealousy perhaps.

    If Trent did audio books I would buy them all.
    That might sound weird, but I really like his speaking voice.

    • @LadyNuman
      @LadyNuman ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh no, not weird at all! Some people just "have that voice" or they don't. For instance, Gary Numan's autobiography "(R)evolution" is narrated by the man himself, his speaking voice and style are just wonderful as well. Yet completely different, of course. No wonder they were eventually drawn together. 🔺☮️🖤⚡

    and Trent, if you ever read this,I'd like to say that you are one of the most capable people that I've ever heard of in articulating the complex emotions of..being a...human (I lack your talents, clearly)

    Brilliant piece! I find myself a bit envious. I've always wanted to work with him too and this is probably as close as I will ever get. I had no idea he and I had so much in common, being so opposite. I love it. I really love it! Thank you so much for this.

    And he's still kicking fucking ass almost 20 years later. I just saw him end a tour in Cleveland for a one night only reunion with the 90s lineup. It was perfect, as always. Nine Inch Nails has provided the soundtrack to my life for most of my 40 years.

    1:03 the way they cut from one scene to another made it look
    like he played that gig then went to the interview\ like Yeah me Trent
    Reznor when i'm not on tour i play gigs in a retro 80s pop band
    in the town i grew up in just for giggles.

    So true that
    tweaking sounds after sound after sound without a 'song' structure can lead one to
    become busily engaged in
    not doing much. (but it is as fun as fk).

    "with teeth" is by far the best NIN album. i put Reznor up there with the greats. lyrically he can't really be touched.

    • @gildan

    • @GLITZandGLOOM
      @GLITZandGLOOM 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wouldn't say he can't be touched, and I love Trent. But Maynard James Keenan is a monster lyricist too. Manson's lyrics were top notch from Antichrist through Holy Wood. Kurt Cobain, Billy Corgan, Jim Morrison, and... David Fucking Bowie!
      Some pretty bitchin' lyricists.

      With Teeth es como In Rainbows: álbumes de la década del 2000 que superaron sus obras maestras de los 90 (The Downward Spiral y Ok Computer).
