Oh shoot, thanks y'all. His bday was this past Thursday I took it over and at first he thought I brought my console over like I normally do long story short he was super thankful for it now he's up to date finally lol.
As an employee at a gamestop the second it said "content is blocked by family settings" that just made get pretty pissed. Not only are employees supposed to wipe the system (which it clearly wasn't), but are also meant to remove all parental blocks on consoles. If the customer doesn't remember the code to unlock it we can't take the system in. The employee who took it in is beyond incompetent.

The dirt is usually just an accumulation of debris over time, sadly most people don't clean their consoles. As for the scratches, the thing was SHIPPED in the (presumably) US postal system, WITHOUT PADDING. It's entirely possible the shell wasn't scratched when it was returned but absolutely mauled by the shipping process.
I got off lucky. I got a 4GB model off of eBay in fairly similar shipping conditions, albeit without any accessories, and it arrived basically perfectly. I'm surprised GameStop would even consider shipping something like that. It's sad that an eBay purchase arrives in better condition than an order from a huge corporation
CobaltRetroTech that is completely true, I ordered a refurbished PS4 Pro off of GameStop’s website almost 2 years ago, and it just arrived in a big brown box.
The power button was pushed in, and the HDD was out upon arrival so I had to put it back in.
CobaltRetroTech Well you do also have to note that the US Postal System only ships packages and letters, it doesn’t package them. So whoever packaged the box and shipped it through the Postal System (In this case, GameStop) is responsible for what’s put inside and what damages occur, not the Postal System.

To remove the scratches you can always use automotive plastic polish to buff them out. Just be careful around the vents.
You can remove the family settings by performing a factory reset in the system info settings! Press LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, Y ,Y, left(d-pad), down (d-pad) in the system info, and a option to factory reset should appear.

My father recently sold our family home, and I had sold my Xbox 360 a while ago to a buddy (for $40 with a ton of games, probably would have got more at GameStop lol) it was that black Xbox but without scratches. Your carpet is the exact same and it’s really putting me in my feelings from back when I used to come home from school and load that bad boy up and play some red dead redemption or GTA story mode because we had bad WiFi. I probably haven’t held a 360 controller in a few years and I really miss back in the day when our family was happy and I didn’t worry about things. If I wanted something to eat I’d go get it from the pantry, if I wanted a new game my dad would get it for me. I’m tearing up thinking about how I would wake up early to play before school.

Those scratches might come out with a scratch remover or abrasive wax for automobiles. I had a shiny black TV stand for my TV that was sold to me all scuffed up. I used my car’s scratch remover and some wax and it came out looking like brand new.
Or just have Patrick and spongebob buff them scratches off like they were going to do on the flying Dutchman....
GameStop sells really bad used systems, so people are forced to get the console “refurbished” or Fixed
Same with games, Because I once bought a call of duty ghosts since I wanted to show my friend how good call of duty ghosts was in my opinion and once I bought the game ohh boy you have no idea how scratched it was but I was able to replace it out for another disc.

The controller disconnecting from my experience is the batteries some brands of AA fit better others are too small, jiggle around and sometimes disconnect.

Hey you can fix the family code thing if you sign in to your Microsoft account,then go to your Microsoft account on a computer, put your serial number (which is at the back of the console) and click options then reset family code and it will give you instructions on how to reset it

All you need to do to reset family settings is register the system on the xbox website, then go to the system options and there's a button that says get system reset code or something like that. Then just go to the system info screen and enter that button combo.
The scratches and stuff just make it look better cause it looks worn out and old which I personally like

I traded a 360 on a swap website when mw2 had just came out. I left my mw2 disc in the Xbox. Absolutely gutted 😂.

The controller issue was more than likely dead batteries, not the controller itself.

Format the console in settings The number the system is gonna ask you for is located on the inside of the little door on the front of the console. When you push that little black door in there's a number right under the USB ports.

I remember I bought the OG 360 used from Gamestop back in 2007. Exchanged it multiple times. However every system had the Red ring of death that I took home. So I just bought new instead. Never again did I buy any used accessory or console from Gamestop. These days I prefer my consoles and controllers to be brand new.
I think you’re blaming the wrong company. Go ask 2007 Microsoft why over half of all the original white 360s would spontaneously fail. They were honestly probably working fine when those employees boxed them up.

When I was younger GameStop always checked all consoles making sure it runs smoothly and no annoying surprises now a days they just take it and pay you that’s why I never buy anything used from them I had my fair share of bad experience growing up
I remember this console. My friend had one and it was on for so long that it cut off from overheating. I was actually so scared that happened to the console because I was The Who played it and then I messed up his console but no it still worked I think. I remember when I had a 360 and they had this fan you could connect to the side and it was only available at the local Walmart.
There is a combo you can do that just wipes everything i cant remember how to do it though.

Plot twist: the parents for the previous owner work at the GameStop he went to return the Xbox.
I had the same problem when I bought a "refurbished" Wii U from them. They didn't even reset the console at all. It had like ten accounts on it and had parental controls. I had to use an exploit just to use my console fully.

I got my Xbox 360 S from one of my neighbors back in 2017, and it had Call of Duty: Black Ops in the disc tray😀 I was so happy that day.
(P.S. It has a burn mark next to the eject button, and it's not in very good condition, but it's still working like a champ to this day.)

You have to add that consoles imei number on your Microsoft account and there click on that console and option of reset family settings
You can Reset the famely settings in the Microsoft Site you must register the device in the Microsoft Site and then you hot a Code and than stand the Rest on the site
Weird that every refurbished xbox one I have gotten has never had any problems. In fact, they had quite a few games on the Xbox.

For family settings code go to system info and enter in a button code for your type of xbox 360 and it will factory reset to where there's no code and if you have content on your hardrive take it out before hand
