There was an amish teenager who was a customer at the gas station where I worked. He casually mentioned that he snuck out and asked me what the best snacks were avaliable, so I gave him a hot pocket. The look on his face when he ate it was glorious.
The Amish originate from Germany, although the one's I've talked to don't sound much different from other Pennsylvanians unless they speak German to each other.
I would assume a non-Amish friend of their's might have access to technology that the Amish person would never use, so the non-Amish person could show the video to their Amish friend (the non-Amish friend using the computer or computerized phone, while the Amish individual would just look at the screen).

I think they see making connections outside of their community as temptation (like "JUST" looking at a phone someone else is holding, but they're "TOTALLY" not the one actually using the device, "wink wink").
Honestly I'm sure you are probably tired of people bringing it up, but I have been subbed for a long while now and it makes me so happy seeing how well you have recovered since your initial Bell's Palsy situation. Stay strong and thank you for everything you do, and the community you have formed.

That could be a really shit explanation but that’s all I remember
I honestly didn't even notice, but looking back, a lot of the videos I watched around that period, he was cleverly hiding his face with eye patches, masks, or special goggles. I had no clue anything was wrong.

But also ridiculously arbitrary. They just decided at some point that a certain level of technology was okay but other stuff wasn't... I keep wondering if in 100 years the Amish will have cell phones while the modern society has their phones implanted. But it's okay because it's not "Modern" tech... I look at them and think about why they can use certain farm equipment instead of having to do things entirely by hand. Just so arbitrary and if I think on it, it just starts to bother me more and more lol.

I'm actually from Ohio and live around them, yes, Hartville Kitchen, the Dutch man restaurant, the pies, the pot roast dinners. It's an Ohio thing you get meals here you can't get anywhere else.
Most of my extended family are amish. They go to regular doctors, and seem to go to chiropractors a lot for all sorts of things, and sometimes the chiropractors will "prescribe" blackstrap molasses. They have a strong preference for alternative medicine, but don't reject normal medicine

Well, I really don't know much about these amish people. I do know, that they have some weird connection to the german language and early german settlers who went to the US, but as a german myself, I still get a good laugh watching this. How disconcerting, a german who actually has sense of humour. We are definitely living in a crazy time. I also want to add that the amish people are NOT a representation of older german culture, nor is the american steriotype... 😆A very nice follow up to your austrian physician 😄. Sometimes it is hard for me to imagine, how difficult the german language is for nonnantive speakers. But i can tell, the language isn't as aggressive as it might sound. In fact, the gramatical structures are very beautiful and were not simplified or simply forgotten over time. It is a language with its own capability of creating new words and definitions out of one's mind. It is a powerful language, in which things can be expressed that no other language possibly could do. Ups... I guess i let myself go a bit, the time was still worth it though xD.

I live in York and used to work in Lancaster which involved working in some Amish farms. This is not too far off. Haha. Love it.
