    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think so! Plus it's built like an absolute tank so it'll last a long time/stand up to a lot of use.

  • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
    @JillLynnBeautyTherapy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Got it today....hooked her up, and MAN you are not kidding! This thing is a tank, and sounds amazing. I did do some tweaks on the rodecaster...and will probably be playing with that a tad....but am completely thrilled. I have to add, that I did have a Shure 7M7B...and returned it after I came to my senses (good lord, I am not a professional podcaster ) and I am already loving the PodMic more. I really do think you nailed it when you said that this really can be 'it' when it comes to your mic searching. Thanks again for your videos...I am learning a ton.

    Great video Tom! I was one of the people who bought the RCP, 2 Podmics, and 2 WS2 foam windscreens because of you and your videos. I love all the gear and am so glad I went in that direction because of your glowing praise of these rode products. Thanks and keep all the good videos coming!

  • @RafaelLudwig
    @RafaelLudwig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I know you harp on the windscreen look, but for me I tend to look at your face when you are using it, and my eye is drawn to the mic without it on. Humans are attracted to shiny things, or the brightest (and most in focus) thing in the shot. And because it's so close to your face, the eyes wander down to the mic, don't let the mic outshine you!. Depending on your perspective, good thing or bad thing.
    In video form, you are right, what is in the frame is vastly important. We have to be deliberate what we show in the shot. It all adds up the the subconscious cues we are feeding the audience (intentional or not)
    As always, thanks for your trusted opinion! (proceeds to buy MV7 microphone instead of the Røde 😬)

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. I always assumed my face was the highlight of the show, but I'm glad the windscreen helps keep it that way! 😁
      Oh! I also added the SM7B's windscreen to my MV7 and it really eliminated issues with plosives. The windscreen isn't a perfect fit, but it's darn close.

    PodMic is great product, but quite sensitive the position where it capture sound. Wind muffer is good to have. Table stand and arm of Rode are also great for that mic.
    For wind screen there is also traditional options, kind of net fabric with own support - that leave orginal mic totally visible.

    • @tombuck

    I know a lot of people might think this goes without saying, but it really doesn't when you're a dynamic mic newbie like me. I bought the PodMic thinking it would be plug-and-play like my Blue Snowball. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it didn't come with a cable, the type of cable that works with it is not USB, and I needed to buy an audio interface in order to use it with my PC. Don't get me wrong -- I'm okay with this. I understand that you typically have to pay more for quality. But it would have been nice to know about all of this going in.
    So I haven't been able to use my PodMic yet (I'm waiting for the audio interface and XLR cable to ship), but examples of it I've heard in videos make it sound like it has a true to life sound. That's exactly what I want. I know the Shure SM7B is considered kind of a legendary mic, but I don't want a mic with an enhanced low end (especially not at its $400 price point). The PodMic seems like a fantastic value at $100 (assuming you can find it at its normal price). I lucked out and got mine for $100 through Best Buy. They're sold out of it now, though.

      Yes, there's definitely a whole system that goes into using an XLR mic, but the good news is that once you have it, you're set and your setup can grow with you/be super versatile.

    I bought this mic yesterday with a goxlr mini! I'm super excited for them to come in to start streaming with them, cos how nice they sound. I'm really surprised how cheap it is in Australia though because things are normally really expensive here. I got it for $129 AUD free shipping and I'm guessing it's cheap here cos I'm pre sure I saw on the podmic on the bottom it said made in Australia. Also in Aus i don't see any problems with stock here we have plenty :D probably ties into what I just said before though haha

    Great Review, I would make a point that “Normal” on the Procaster is actually with the slider in the just past middle (It’s slightly bolder). From a Sound Console you want your gain (what you have set to 35) so that if you take the fader ALL the way up it doen’t clip or feedback (in live settings).

    Glad I found this video you created a few months ago. Great review. It took me some time to figure out the EQ setup, etc. Still working on adjusting it but getting better at this. I was wondering if I need to add cloudlifter to the PodMic (that is connected to MOTU M4 audio interface) and I think I don't need that ...at least for now. But then I listed again to your recording and I can hear the difference and wow! Maybe one day I will add that cloudlifter :) (Klaudia)

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Klaudia! I haven't used the MOTU, but I'm guessing that like most interfaces, you can get by without a Cloudlifter for the PodMic. That being said, a Cloudlifter (or similar signal booster) will probably help and will also give you plenty of headroom. If you look up my Cloudlifter video with the PodMic you can definitely hear a difference in quality with and without it.

    Unfortunately, the rodecaster pro is out of our budget, as we would need 5 of them, along with our mics (I believe we are getting podmics)
