Ah, yes!! My home line!! Since the early 1950s, this has been the very first subway line I rode on, living in the Bronx. My station was St. Lawrence. Thanks to your video, I relive riding in the first car, nose glued to the window, enjoying the view. As I got older, noticing the signalling and trackwork, and sometimes when the motorman would crack open his door on warm summer days, letting you peek inside as he worked the "deadman" throttle and the air brake handle, I gained an appreciation for this incredible people mover in NYC. The older cars of times past allowed such a pleasure, today's cars deny the passenger of that pleasure. Once again, we fans of the NYC subway truly appreciate these videos!! It would have been nice if it was possible to take the City Hall loop beyond the Brooklyn Bridge station and ride through and see the beauty of that station, the first station that inaugurated the IRT in October of the year 1904. Thank you for this special video of the subway line dear to me!!

Ride the 6 all the time! Great route! The stretch from 42nd (the shuttle now) to Brooklyn Bridge is the original part of the subway, which opened in 1904!
Thank you so much for sharing that information. We hope everyone stayed to the end to notice the original station opened that year. It is truly an interesting route for certain.
I was born and raised in New York City and as a child my grandmother and I would visit my aunt in Rockaway, we lived on Clay Avenue and would walk from E 174th street below the Grand Concourse and travel changing trains many times. Today this would be a challenge for me I'm now diabetic and have neuropathy in both legs and have to use a Walker. In those days there were no handicapped access, not sure now. Today I live in the desert southwest Las Vegas, NV. I'm today in my late 60,s. I can remember the old trains that had no a/c and a fan that if you were lucky can get comfortable otherwise it blew hot air. I'm confident today improvements have been made. Unlike most train rides this one doesn't mention the next stop, so if you miss the writing of the stop unless you back track you kinda lose out. Again good to ride along and I will comment as I check out other rides. Again Thank You for posting 😊
...and thank you for sharing. It's heartwarming to know that the video was able to bring you back to a time/history you shared with, not just the subway but the city. The system has done a lot of improvements in the years since then and they are a lot more accessible stations for individuals overcoming the challenges that you shared. Along with the improvements, so has the equipment and thankfully the cars have a/c this time around. Looking forward to you sharing more history and/or memories on other videos and we thank you again for tuning in all the way from NV. 🫶🫡🏆
At 52:24 you see the abandoned 18th St. Platform. It was pretty small -- barely able to accommodate five cars, and the 14th St. and 23rd St. platforms had been elongated. At 1:00:09 there is Worth. Also abandoned for similar reasons (proximity to Brooklyn Bridge). The station is marked at street level at Foley Square. Excellent video!

Parkchester and Castle Hill are my stomping grounds and where I raised my children. 149 and Southern Blvd stop is my current place, so I was super hyped! Thanks for this great video😊😊 And Harlem is my birth place and still chill out there with family.
It is our pleasure and thank you for sharing. We are honored that you are able to enjoy a video of the line you share many memories with. Sending positive blessings to you and your family; in all your neighborhoods. 🫡🫡
OMG thank you for that last surprise, I really appreciate it so much and also thank you so much for all the POV's that you've done for us so far, I love them all 😊👌
What a treat at the end! Brooklyn Bridge - you flash "last stop" - cue music theme - cut to WTAE titles --- then take us around the old City Hall Station! Thanks.
I went to Cooper Union, at the Astor Place station, and rode this line every day for four years. Thanks for the City Hall view - it was dark the last time I rode thru but in your video it was nicely lit up.
It was truly a blessing that it was well lit this time around. We are happy to know that you were able to appreciate it and it brought back good memories for you.
Wtae thank you so much for making this video, I've always been so intrigued on your content, I used to live on the 6 line at 149 and always wanted to see the 125 st complex on the local side you have peaked my interest and I thank you for it please keep on making amazing content.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We truly appreciate you for sharing this and it's an honor to earn your respect. How did you like the ending of this one?
@@wtaenyc amazing, the view of the city hall loop is so amazing even though it's abandoned it's such an amazing stop and it's so cool that you had a chance to record it.
That was a fun trip on the 6 local train. I noticed a couple of abandoned stops along the way, I think one of them was the old Astor Place station. Many years ago, I went with a group of other folks for an escorted tour called Day One on the IRT. It was sponsored by the New York Transit Museum. We explored the old Astor stop. While our tour guide was describing the place. I heard a couple of quick snaps in the tunnel. (track switches!). Moments later, a southbound 5 express train featuring the Redbirds was booking it to the next express stop. A gap in the third rail provided lightning-like flashes in the tunnel! What a rush that was!! Before the exploration of the old Astor Place stop, we took the ride to the former City Hall station and got off there to explore the place, then took another train to the Brooklyn Bridge station. The transit museum folks had a tour of City Hall station years earlier, around the 1990's. Good to see the R-62's getting some action on this trip. I liked the early evening trip, it was a nice change of pace form the daytime rides. Thanks again for another great video.
Thank you so much for sharing that amazing story. It is honorable to know that the video was able to bring you back to those memories that you shared on the station that is now abandoned. One question, how does the City Hall station from this video look as compared to when you visited long time ago? Did you catch it at the end?
I went to Talent Unlimited High School, so seeing the 68th, 59th, and 51st street stations definitely brought back memories of traveling to and from school.

Ahh, the #6 to and from Westchester Square, the train of my “yoot,” more years ago than I care to count….but R33’s come immediately to mind. Spent a good deal of time getting on and off the #5 at E180th St., too, and watching all the action.
At 125th ST., there is a magnificent set of interweavings of tracks. The local 6 train is always on the left side of the platform, and the express 4 or 5 is always on the right side of the platform, in either direction. I will have to draft out on paper the junction some time. It's almost as complicated as DeKalb Ave junction. Aarre Peltomaa p.s. There are several mostly unused pocket tracks for emergencies, or temporary storage, or unusual in service movements.
Great observation and we appreciate you for pointing it out. It is quite unique indeed how the trains work at the station and it just continues to show how intriguing and amazing the design of the system is.
There's a book of track maps showing EVERY switch, signal, and junction in the entire system, including yards. The 125th street junction, as well as several others systemwide, are clearly described in this book.
You know the 6 does not have no R142AS. It's straight up R62AS until the Brand New R262/AS comes to replace all the R62AS R62S on the 1 3 6 S lines for CBTCS.
1:01:23 "Attention passengers, this is the last downtown stop on this train. The next stop on this train is Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, uptown platform."
would be awesome to see the Lexington lines, especially the 5 and 6 with CBTC and upgraded infrastructure / timetables, would definitely make the experience so much more faster and smoother
We too manifest a system that is not only faster and smoother, but also cleaner, safer and one that is the most spectacular one in the world. We can’t wait to experience it.
I love this video!!!!! I loved riding the 6 growing up. Is there a possibility that you can do a Pelham Bay Park bound of the 6? That’ll be really awesome if you can.
Thanks for this ride and the special feature of abandoned original city hall platform at the end, I’ve also noticed abandoned 18th and worth streets along the line 🫡
6 train extension from Pelham Bay, I know im a bit annoying with these but idc lets get into it Would go back underground, and the 6 would go under Bruckner Expressway. Would follow it until it gets to Bartow Avenue, making a stop there. Bartow Ave - accessible, side platform, ordinary design, and connection to the Bx25, Bx26, Bx28, Bx38, Bx5, Bx23, Q50, and the Bx12 SBS. The 6 would leave Bartow in a simple, normal tunnel, and fast speeds. There would be service, in the middle third track passing Bartow. The 6 would keep going along New England Thruway, since it merged with Bruckner Expressway. It would make a tiny turn to stop at Baychester Avenue. Baychester Ave - Co-Op City - last stop, island platform, (6), , accessible, modern artistic design and tiles, connection to the Bx23, Bx25, Bx26, Bx28, Bx30, and the Bx38. Since this is a very short extension, I won’t put in announcements. Buh - Bye!
Nice! I liked the Bronx elevated portion as the train headed towards the last light of day. The abandoned 18th St and Worth St stations are enough to give you the creeps, but the trip thru the old City Hall loop at the end was a nice bonus. Are you going to do a video on the Staten Island Rapid Transit?
Thank you so much for sharing. We can definitely see how it can be seen as creepy for sure and as it relates to the SI RP, we will manifest that as one of our next projects to come; it would truly be an honor.
Close to best so far, totally enjoyable. If you watch some of the tunnel construction over several videos you can see the evolution of the subway and how different operators finished out things. Question? What were the other two abandon platforms as you got to Brooklyn Bridge.
First one just before Brooklyn Bridge is Worth Street, which was closed due to how close it was to Brooklyn Bridge when the stations were extended for longer trains. Another station on this line which was closed for the same reason is 18th Street.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It is an honor to know that you enjoyed it and you ask an extremely valid question. We also see that someone has been kind enough to share their knowledge of the area with you, so that makes us feel satisfied. How did you like seeing the City Hall station?
When I saw the normal ending play after the train approached Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall I was thinking "aw man the City Hall loop isn't going to show up..." and then right as I was about to click off the video kept going and I went "WAIT NO IT'S HAPPENING!" Excellent videography as always and thanks for showing the City Hall Loop, it was awesome. Have you ever done one of the tours of the station?
Thank you so much for sharing. We’re glad you stayed until the end and got to experience the lovely loop. We appreciate your support and look forward to sharing what else we have in store.
This is one cool video. Makes me feel like I'm the motor man. Always wanted to be a conductor or motor man but it will never happen in this life, especially with a bad heart and 60 years old now. I guess its country life and living in a rural place and going fishing and hunting every other week.
Sending positive blessings and healing energy to help with your heart challenge. We manifest a healthier life in the days ahead. It would have been an honor to have you give your service to the city in that way but being that it’ll too challenging now, we hope that our content can serve as something you enjoy while enjoying your fishing days. It’s an honor that you still get to despite your challenge 🫡🏆
Great view of the 6 train here. The ending definitely had me fooled at first. One thing I noticed along the line in Manhattan was that a lot of the lineside signals were arranged with red in the middle, between amber and green. Am now wondering if this was a quirk left over from the days of the IRT Subway and that those signals are original installations.
Thank you so much for sharing and you ask a very great question. Great observation to notice that and we're glad that you were able to watch the ending and view the City Hall Station. How did you like it?
This is coming from far left field. But rumor has it the R211A is scheduled for its first passenger service tomorrow at 2pm. This video premieres tomorrow. Could this be a possible live video perhaps?? 🤔 Now I'm just really speculating, dont take my word on it. Maybe you guys have that stroke but again I could be wrong. Keep doing what your doing guys 👍🙏
What a wonderful and interesting coincidence. Would have been dope if your speculation was actually a reality but either way, we hope the video doesn’t disappoint.
The R142AS probably come back on the Pelham 6 line once the R262/As comes for CBTCS on the 1 3 6 S lines in the future. I have a real serious question. Don't you wish that the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line was still running if they never took it down?
hello, it's me Kevin your subscriber from your channel. I have a question; Isn't the 6 train line going express in the Bronx to pelham bay pkwy or is it local? because I know it goes local to parkchester it finishes. so late nights go local always down to manhattan to pelham. I was just confused. but anyway that was so cool. I usually don't take the 6 train very often, but I will tomorrow from 125th st to Bleeker st. so i'm excited to see the route.
Thank you so much for being one of our valued subscribers Mr. Patino, and we appreciate you for asking such a detailed question. To our knowledge, the 6 train has both local and express trains that go to Pelham Bay, while most local trains to terminate at Parkchester. We believe that the time of day has a lot to do with which ones stop/continue where, opening it up to anyone that can share a more precise answer. When the return video is released, we look forward to seeing if it can assist with your question as well. All the best always, WTAE.
Some Abandoned Stations That Didn't Got Mentioned 52:27: 18th Street Location: Between 14th Street and 23rd Street along Second Avenue in Manhattan. • Status: Closed in 1942 as part of the shutdown of the Second Avenue Line. The line was eventually dismantled, though its remnants can still be seen in certain places. The station had an elevated platform and was one of the stops on this once-bustling route. • Access: Like many abandoned stations, it's inaccessible to the public, though urban explorers sometimes visit the site. 1:00:10 : Worth Street Location: Lower Manhattan (on the 2 and 4 lines). • Status: The Worth Street station opened in 1904 and was used primarily for local service on the IRT. It was closed in 1962 as part of a restructuring plan and because of low ridership. The closure was also due to its proximity to the Chambers Street station, which provided similar service. • Access: The station is now sealed off, but remnants of the old station, including its platforms and structure, can still be found in the tunnels below.
Thanks for this, especially the loop. I’m curious, though. What time of day was this shot, early evening or very early morning? The sky is very similar to the A train video.
52:24 Abandoned 18 St station on the lexington line. I can see now why this station is closed today considering its close proximity to 23rd St and 14 St. Who knows, if you were to race this train from street level between 14 St and 18 St, you would most likely win.

@ aarre peltomaa:
Please share your draft with us here. To me, this junction is confusing, yet fascinating! The level changes are cool.
There's a book of track maps showing EVERY switch, signal, and junction in the entire system, including yards. The 125th street junction, as well as several others systemwide, are clearly described in this book.

6 train extension from Pelham Bay, I know im a bit annoying with these but idc lets get into it
Would go back underground, and the 6 would go under Bruckner Expressway.
Buh - Bye!

One thing I noticed along the line in Manhattan was that a lot of the lineside signals were arranged with red in the middle, between amber and green. Am now wondering if this was a quirk left over from the days of the IRT Subway and that those signals are original installations.

hello, it's me Kevin your subscriber from your channel.

Some Abandoned Stations That Didn't Got Mentioned
52:27: 18th Street
Location: Between 14th Street and 23rd Street along Second Avenue in Manhattan.
1:00:10 : Worth Street
Location: Lower Manhattan (on the 2 and 4 lines).
