    hello Nate, sorry for my english, I'm french. After "logical song" ,I learn "wish you were here" you explain very well. I am 62 years old, and after my professional life, I give a lot of my time on the piano . ,I .think they are no age to learn piano and I enjoy that; If you want to put School of Supertramp, I will be realy too happy. With you, learning piano is easier. thank you.

    Okay, I need to take a moment of my time to give you praise. Your tutorials are easy to follow along with, you're very gentle and your approach is that of someone who seems to really enjoy teaching. And it's nice to see the instructor on screen, and hear YOU playing versus some midi track that wasn't even programmed with dynamics or velocity changes. It's a very personal (as much as one can be on the internet) approach to teaching music and one we don't see much of anymore. And you have a lovely voice too, Sir.
    I've played piano nearly my entire life and as someone who is always wanting to learn more and keep studying I've seen thousands of tutorial videos, books, and so on. Very few reach the level you have with your lessons; it really is a piano lesson as if we were sitting in a room with you and learning. (Seriously, if anyone hasn' t taken piano lessons before and are wondering what it can be like - this is a great example. This is what a great piano teacher can be like.)
    Now you can't hear your students play, and give them advice on maybe how to approach something in real-time; however, you do provide a good amount of advice for most, so I think you cover a lot where many simply disregard or don't think about.
    This is a song I've played millions of times - but even I learned something that I never thought about - how to count the time at the beginning. When you first said it I was thinking "huh, what?" And sure enough... oh yeah... that makes a lot of sense! And then when the groove comes in... that natural half-time feel kicks in and you just flow with it once you've got the feel for the song down.
    Please, keep it up and don't stop doing what you love if this is it. Because, you're very good at it and I truly believe that you're setting a great example for many others on how to approach teaching music. Not just online - but in person too.
    Great job!
    Thank you so much! I can't wait to see more of your content and to learn more from you.

      Ditto!! Same for me. You give me inspiration and confidence to play and enjoy every minute of it. The way you ‘coach’ is the best I have ever seen. And let me tell you… I’ve seen a lot of good pianists that just made me feel clumsy and inept.
      You don’t do that to me. You make me want to sit down and play with you and let it come together in a natural progression of understanding the music and how the original artists wanted it to sound. When I was 4yo… that’s how I fell in love with the piano. Piano lessons were not like that at all. So…. I’m back and loving the piano. Thank you for helping me to make music and not to just read music and play it note by note.
      Don’t ever stop.. you have a gift.

    BRILLIANT!! ❤❤❤
    This song is so incredibly moving. I can't wait to try your version.
    Just don't know how I'm going to remember all your content, as I'm better at reading sheet music than playing along to a chord sheet. But I'm going to keep trying. Maybe I'm going to have to pause different sections of the video, screenshot and print them out, cut them into strips and then stick together. 😊
    This will obviously take forever, but will keep me playing until not only the knowledge of chords becomes ingrained, but the speed at which I remember them.

    I love Pink Floyd!!🖤 My dad loves it and I grew up with it and we watched a lot of dvd concerts together. And I went to see The Australian Pink Floyd show, now called Britt Floyd I believe, sadly I was born to late to see Pink Floyd themselves live haha. My dad was lucky enough to see them live in 1994..!
    Two months ago I started to learn playing piano.. from scratch😄 I never had any classes to learn to read sheetmusic or anything, but I learn to play with Synthesia and as a complete beginner I can now play Einaudi’s Birdsong after perfecting it and playing a lot to make it a ‘muscle memory’ so to speak.., and I am shocked haha I could already play a song like that! I love Einaudi and Yiruma but I also would like to learn to play some Pink Floyd..!
    I can dream the music and rhythm and lyrics so that helps I think;) But maybe a little hard to play it technically right on the piano (I have to learn some chords and how to count for the measures maybe haha😁), but I am going to give it a try!🎹
    (One thing I struggle with, I have short fingers and some things are harder for me because I have to reach and stretch way more for a lot of notes, but I managed to play Birdsong from Einaudi so with practice I can do it😉
    I also follow a lot of piano lessons I can find.. I found my new hobby haha😁🎹👍🏻😃
    Wish you were here is one of my favourite songs of Pink Floyd! My dad loves a great gig in the sky..

    This is an awesome tutorial, Nate, thank you so very much for that! Love the piano/guitar combo at the end as well. Might you be able to create a separate tutorial for classical or acoustic guitar for this song to be played TOGETHER with the piano (easy version, if possible)? My son and his friend (classical guitar & piano) are going to attempt playing this together, but while they have the separate chords, it would be nice to have some guidance on how to play it together in an interesting/great-sounding way... Again, fabulous work - THANK YOU!!

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! That is so awesome that your son and his friend are going to play it together. I don't do guitar videos on my channel, but there are a ton of guitar tutorials for this song already on youtube. I do it in the original key, and there is nothing special about my piano version here...they can select a guitar tutorial that feels to be at the correct difficulty level for their ability, and it should sound great!

      I typically dont do guaranteed lessons for direct hire, because if someone requests a song that otherwise isnt popular (likely to do well on my channel) or that I dont like, I would probably value my time in making it at a few hundred dollars, and it doesnt feel right to ask that.
      But thanks again for the request, I really like this suggestion!

    Fantastic! Never realised the opening riff is completely pentatonic.
    I suspect the vocal melody is also mostly pentatonic. That is one reason it sounds so accessible.

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point! As for the vocal melody, you're right it is mostly pentatonic, though it does step outside of that a bit (the C note, for example)

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, good luck and have fun! I think Nothing Else Matters could definitely sound good on piano...if you want to do the instrumental intro part that would be pretty hard (there are a few good piano tutorials on that already) but the singing part you could play the underlying chords and, as long as you kept the rhythm simple, it would be pretty easy
