Awesome! Buying the tool you made this from is cheaper than buying the threading kit where I live so this is great

How many do-it-yourself wood thread videos are there on youtube? This is the smartest, cleanest solution for large diameter threads.

Pretty good ides! But you not really cutting a thread in as much forming a thread by compression. If you would had soaked your dowel in mineral oil for a week it would of went easier forming.
Problem with compression method the wood will expand out over time and freeze together and lock up.
Build a real tap and die blocks, not hard so you can make real threads any pitch or size you need and with the tolerence fit you require!

    これはもの凄く良いアイデア! 何かに使えそうだね
    スチュールの足部分に使えるかな? ま、とりあえず太いネジとナットを探そう。

Love this method And the video on how to this is so much easier than most of all the other ways on youtube ! Let’s face it A tap and die set Just makes more sense than trying to hand cut Wood to do make uts and bolts from wood ! Not being a metal expert or anything close I’m wondering if there is a way to harden the pieces to keep a sharp cutting age longer ?

I wish he had provided a link to the metal screw press that he modifies to make his tap and threading die. While this method of making a wooden screw and nut isn't sufficient it would be a terrific starting point. After this video ends the next step would be to use a sharpened form cutter mounted into the screw to cut a real nut whose threads would be cut with the form tool (the end of a cheap chisel cut to a 60° point). Then clamp a piece of blank, bored stock to the back of the nut with a spacer in between. The spacer needs to be open on two sides; the idea is to run the screw completely through the nut and then when it is poking through the nut, but before it has reached the blank, insert a form cutter into the end of the screw. Run the screw with its inserted form cutter through the nut+spacer+blank sandwich to cut a real form-cut nut; the pitch being guided and controlled by the die-cut nut. Then insert a form cutter into the real nut and use that as a die to cut threaded screws. Consider this video as merely Step 1 of the whole process.

Thanks for this. Like the concept of DIY tap and die. Sealing both with wax after cutting may help.

Esta é uma das ideia grandiosa e eficientes de se fazer parafusos e porcas, o noho inovou, descomplicou o processo e mostrou de forma simples a arte de pensar em marcenaria! Agradecido!

The screw hacks sold in my area are 1 3/8 thick. Is the dowel you use is the same thickness or is it 1 1/2 thick? Also how large is the hole?

Thanks for this useful video. I had been wandering how well this would work. I couldn't tell if it was just pressing threads or actually cutting them tho. It seems for best results the relief cuts would need be wider and sharpened to cut into the grain. Still a great concept and would get you buy in a pinch.

Try coating the outside of the bolt blank with linseed oil and let it soak in for 3 or 4 minutes before cutting the thread. Same with tapping the nut.

    Thanks for the comment.
Please make a wooden bolt and nut too.
Iron bolt size is a 33mm . Hole of the wooden plate is 30mm. The wooden rod is 34mm.

This is not the way to handle wood! You must cut the wood instead to press it. After a while its impossible to get off the nut from the bolt! Thread chasing in wood is a lot different than in metal.
