    As a current 121 captain, I feel like if every briefing was this long every flight would be delayed.

    Well this is my company's brief, it can take less than one minute to do this... Left/Right seat flex/full power flaps 8/20 off of runway (insert). We'll taxi to (runway) via ground taxi instructions (explain crossing runways/hot spots if needed, acceleration altitude off of (runway) is (altitude), single engine procedure is (state beginning of procedure). Explain a quick synopsis on the DP, Standard company emergency brief stated, QRH and EPC located in the center console, no/yes continuous ignition or anti-ice on departure. Any questions?

    If there's an emergency when taking off there is no time to reach for the manual to find out what to do - there are precious few opportunities for them to practice emergency procedures when taking off. So they go through a ritual recitation with one another - they then have more chance of acting instinctively - it's a safety thing - they're obliged to do it.
    Safety by rote learning.

    My instructor said to me once, “think that every word you say on the radio will cost you ten dollars.”
    After watching this word soup, the same goes for briefings.

    Pilots are always calm, but I can assure you all that pre-departure briefing aren't that long at all since I've seen real pilots' briefing

    There’s no need to talk about standard duties. Everyone knows their part and their lines. In a BRIEFing, we touch on highlights of what’s not routine (runway condition, notams that affect the flight, MEL items, routing, SID, weather...). If it ain’t special, don’t bore the rest of your crew!

  • @pineteam

    Guys, this is exactly how you shall NOT brief!!! Ridiculous!!!

  • @bocajuniors55
    @bocajuniors55 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is ridiculous. If we took this long in the Part 135 Charter business to accomplish a brief our customers would do business with someone else.

    Regarding the many complaints that this briefing is too long, the points being covered are almost all things that have caused fatal accidents in the past. The question becomes: Which of these fatal accident scenarios are you okay with repeating?

    • @djimpailot4536
      @djimpailot4536 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should probably just start with stating the biggest threats and potential errors for that particular flight in stead of talking about everything that has ever happened

    @JetMechMA Below355 has got is right. Briefings like this have place on any professional flight deck. The obvious items don't need to be discussed and only the non-standard out of the ordinary need to be covered. Remember, where this section finishes, they haven't even briefed the departure brief nor the nav-aid set up. The performance was glossed over and the belief that they can blast straight up to 12,000', engine out is amazing and perform a TCAS RA at the same time is almost frightening.

    My brother is a meteorologist so he uses the NWS and NOAA websites which are perfect for everything he needs, i tell him that he has a great website, we have poorly acted instructional videos ahahah, but we do need these so I can't complain.

    This is a good briefing but way too long. In today's standards this more than likely would of gotten them a delay unless boarded like thirty five minutes early which typically isn't the case

    Are these people under-confident, under-achievers or just afraid of flying? The reason for training systems and SOP's is to avoid the rubbish spouted by the goon in the LHS. Unless of course, this was an example of "how not to do brief". Only the last 20-30 seconds of the brief will be remembered, therefore 4minutes, 20 seconds was wasted effort and contributed nothing to the safety of this flight.
