I bought an Arthurian for mom's birthday 2 weeks ago and already have dry leaves but still blooming. Now I realize I was doing everything wrong. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much. I bought a lovely albeit small Anthurium plant about a year ago. It has really taken off beautifully. It’s growing so fast and so big that I know it needs to be repotted. But I didn’t know if I could do it while it was giving me the beautiful red “flowers” that I now know are leaves thanks to you. It’s also looking like it needed to be broken up into separate plants as it looks very much like the one in your video. You have answered my questions and now I feel completely confident that I can add some more beauty to the rest of my house. Instead of just in my dining area lol! I just discovered a little over a year ago that I really love houseplants and that I am pretty good at caring for them. If I do say so myself 😁Imagine that me learning how to care for plants and learning how to sew at age 58! It’s wonderful life…..at any age 🦋
Great video. I've had my anthurium plant for about 5 to 6 yrs now and it's not looking so hot anymore lol. Going to try to refresh the pot and replant it. Thanks for sharing!
Hey 👋🏼 thank you for this video. I have an anthurium cocos in white, she is like 10 years old now and the legs (are they called legs? 🤔) are like 30cm high and I want to split the 🪴 and didn’t know how to do that properly. Thanks to your video I think I’m not that afraid anymore. 😃 Now I even know why some leaf’s are dry and brown.
Thanks for the help on these Flamingo lilies. Must say the music blew my ears out in my headphones while my hands were dirty but still thanks for the help. Thumbs up my good man.
I have one that kind of half died it only has 4 leaves then I was given one that my friend divided but for a long time it has had no flowers. I'm changing it's position now to give it more light see if that helps. Great video thanks didn't know it needed light.
My Anthurium barely survived me being out of town for 2 weeks… I think because I’m in California and didn’t have the AC going it may have gotten too hot in my apartment. Also, I can’t seem to find somewhere for it that doesn’t burn the leaves. It doesn’t get much direct light at all where it’s at. I feel like the next step is putting it in my closet and shutting the door! Thanks for making this video, it was very informative! 🫶🏻🌷
I really want an orange one. Lowes had some that were such a vibrant, beautiful, orange and salmon color a few years back, and I have regretted ever since for not buying one. I haven't seen those colors since. Thanks for the video.
I really liked your video especially that you share with us exactly how to multiply an anthurium... however, if I may ask, please... there are just some parts where it seems the camera is just a bit too far and so it's not very easy to see. Like as an e.g., if I may, a closer view when you separated 1 with the roots ... :-) But, really, thank you. I did appreciate all the knowledge you have shared. & I'm going to be doing my anthurium now (nervous, 1st time I'm multiply a plant like this) - hope I don't ruin / worse kill my darling plant.
Just take your time, and be gentle with the roots and you will be fine, its not difficult. I'm still learning with filming from multiple angles, I will try to get some closer angles next time. :-)
If you give it baking Soda how do you do this and how much. Watt do you do about the plant with the milk inside. I like to know. Than I have an orchid. I have the water from banana peel. Is that good. How long can you use the same water which I store in the Frits. I like to hear from you watt is the best for these 2 plants. You don’t tell us in the video. That’s in portent. Thank you so much. Hope to hear from you.
Wonderful video…..thank you so much !! So I just bought my first Anthurium. She was my Valentines Day present to myself and I named her Lucy (after my kitten I had that suddenly passed 😭) She has 3 big, beautiful flowers that are bright pink. However, I accidentally “ripped/tore” one of her flowers 😭. Help !!!! Is there anything I can do about this ?? And how often should I be watering her ? I talk to and stroke her daily. She’s just beautiful 🥰. I have just subscribed to your channel btw. Thank you. ❤
So sorry to hear about Lucy the kitten, so sad. There isn't much to be done about a torn flower unfortuantley but it wont affect the health of the plant, Lucy will send out another flower to replace it. Regular watering and feed once a month in the growing season and I'm sure she will do well.
@@HouseplantHacks Thank you so much for ur kind response. Unfortunately a flower (not the torn one) fell off. Is there something I should be doing ? And what should I feed her ??
what is considered indirect light ? i am a very beginner. my kids brought me this plant for mother’s day. my plant looks droopy and few brown spots are forming. my house is on the darker side. the biggest area is in the early morning in the kitchen window. my window is south form. i move the plant at night near the kitchen window. then move it back to where i put it in the living room to look nice. i want more plants to clean the air in my home and look pretty.
So on a window sill where the sun light directly hits the leaves is direct light, further back around a windw where it gets plenty of daylight but the sun does not directly shine on the leaves is classed as indirect, futher in the back of a room where the light doesn't get to would be considered a shady area. Your Anthurium would be most happy with p[lenty of indirect light close to a window but on where the sun can scortch the leaves.
i had a big one but the crown started rotting. The strange thing is the roots seem ok white thick and firm but the crown right above the soil level started to brown and it eventually started traveling to the stems

Such amazing scent from the flowers. So glad you are enjoying the videos, I repot when the plants need it really, if the roots are growing out of the bottom of the pot it's a good sign that they may need a bigger pot, but best to look up on Google for each plant as some plants flower best if kept in smaller pots. Orchid do have similar requirements to anthuriums you're right as they are both tropical epiphytes. I think we are very lucky to have our gardens during these diffucult times, stay safe. Andy

How much do you water do you give your plants and how often do you water them . And is clay pots maybe better to pot then in , because it don’t like to be to wet ?
Love your tips. Hey, i need a help. My anthurium's leaves are fading and it creates so much wax until they don't look as fresh as they should be. Do you have any ways to help me? Been facing this problem for months
It sounds like they are not happy but it can be for a few reasons, too much sun, too much watering, not enough water, something is out of balance, so try to change something up and give it a few weeks to see if it helps, if not try something else. Good luck.
i am trying to rescue a plant like this, that was my mother's. Her's had lost leaves from the bottom of the stalk of the plant. i read, you could cut it off and pop it into water and where prior leaves had been, roots would develop. now in original pot, is still the roots....will i have a new plant from the stalk , from old pot? moms had died back to just one stalk. what do i do? thanks
It can be a number of reasons, incorrect watering can cause it, are you leaving it wet all the time? Let it dry out in-between watering, is it dry for too.long? Increase watering frequency or volume. Sometimes it's just that the leaf is old and will go brown and fall off. This is the normal lifecycle of the plant to drop old leaves and grow new ones. Hopefully something to think about.
Im glad i got recommended this vid. I had an Anthurium Black Queen and it was one of the thr most beautiful plants I've seen. Unfortunately, I placed it near my window and that killed off so many leaves that I just gave up. My flamingo plant is growing a lot, and getting very tall. It has nine blooming flower-petals, and looks healthy. The problem is that its getting to tall and heavy, and cant stand up without support. If i remove the support it will tip over and break. How to fix it? Repotting. But the heavy parts are so far up, så I surely can't bury half the plant?
thanks andy i repotted some of my anthruiums but their leaves started getting brown i think its sunburn the plants that are under bushes are growing real good as they are in shade hopefully i can save the damaged ones n place them in the shade
I wish Bryan! Our UK climate doesn't lend itself to such plants living outside but I do have a plan in mind to create something tropical on the premisis! Stay tuned for news of that project, it's going to be a big one! :-)
I just bought one of these but it's red. There is one flower that I think is new but it's still folded at the tip. How long does it take for new flowers to flatten out?
Update: It turns out I had a thrip infestation and one of the signs is deformed new growth. They killed my arrowhead plant but thankfully I think I saved my anthurium.
Thank you! I appeciate you watching and commenting! :-) I really is peronal preferance I think with Epiphytes, they don't "need" the soil the same way that normal plants do but it still helps to anchor the plant in the pot and it doesn't make much difference either way in my oppinion. If you see them being sold in the UK they are always planted in soil.
All you can do is take it out of the direct sun and give it some time, keep watering as normal and hopefully it will grow more leaves to replace the burnt ones, don't cut the burnt ones off, if there is still some green on them they may still be able to produce energy for the plant. Good luck. Andy
You need to find a pest killer spray that targets aphids, or I think you can use a dilute washing up liquid in a spray bottle, I've never tried it though.
If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. My plant is only a few months old, but most of the old leaves died off. It still has recently sent up a couple of blooms, the problem is the new leaves. They are not green! They are a deep reddish color. Does anyone know what is causing that?
They had this exact variety in Tesco for £7 including a ceramic cover pot! Do you know the name of this variety? Thanks for the great video. I’ve never had an anthurium before! 👍🏻🪴
I don't think so, the rhizome is still clear of the soil, I'm no expert so if you have some knowledge that they need to be planted higher out of the soil then normal then I'm happy to learn something new.
In most cases it is easier to buy plant food in liquid form from a store, you then addit to water and water your plants with it once per month in the growing season. There are some plants that you can cut and put into water for a few months that can act as a plant food but I would need to properly research and make a separate video about that I think.
my plant is growing sideways and i dont know what to do. i wanted t attack them so something so they grow up but they arre very firm and i dont want to break them
Hi Marta, they will naturrally grow towards your light source, so it's probably growing towards the window, you can balance this by rotating the plant round once per week and it should straighten up and start to grow in the other direction, if you keep rotating it each week it should grow more balanced.
Is there a anthurium that has leaves that look like dieffenbachia? I know they are closely related but I have a anthurium that has aerial Roots thick green clumps of stems leaves that resemble dieffenbachia but it is not Dumbcane... the stems have aerial Roots and their growing in a clump like fashion I would bet a million dollars it's not dieffenbachia unlike any one I've ever seen However it has huge arrows head leaves with white splash in the middle veins just like classic dumbcane...which I'm dumbfounded...lol no pun intended
It can be for a variety of reasons Robin, it might be too much or too little light? is it near a very sunny window that gets midday sun? This would also scortch the leaves and make them brown in places, or maybe not enough light, either way, try moving to a new location, if it's really harsh sun try a different window that doesn't get the direct sun, or if it's too little try a slightly bright spot. Good luck.
@@HouseplantHacksI’m having that same trouble. I’m having trouble getting my Anthurium to rebloom. I want it to be massive but it’s gotten scorched by too much sun and it’s a bit droopy. I’ve moved it to a bit less sun and I hope she’ll stand up and be happy! 🪴
Mine has a few brown on the leaves but I am afraid to cut them because I feel like I’m going to kill it. My husband calls me the plant killer because every plant I touch dies. But I’ve had my anthurium almost 2 years and it’s doing well. I haven’t transplanted it or nothing because I’m afraid.
Haha! I'm sure you're ot the plant killer! It can just take a bit of time to learn what a plant needs, each one is different, you will be fine to cut off a leaef that has gone brown, but its more important to figure out why the leaf turned brown, not enough water? too much direct sun on the leaves? Just keep an eye on the other leaves and see how it goes.
@@HouseplantHacks thanks for responding. I have it on the dining table. It doesn’t get a lot of direct sunlight. It gets mostly indirect sunlight. I’ve had it for almost 2 years. I repotted it. I bought some shears and I cut all the brown leaves. I water it’s once a week. I live in Connecticut, so it’s not so warm now. I repotted it in a much much larger pot, I added some potting soil. It’s been a week and it haven’t died, yet. We’ll see. I am the plant killer because I purchased a mini rose and it died one week later. It dried out so fast and I didn’t know that. When I purchased it, it was so soggy, so I felt like I didn’t need to water it. All the roses fell off and it’s almost sticks now. I don’t think it stands a chance. I am not a good plant parent. Hahahaha
@@neishacm5172 it is looking amazing. I cut a lot of leaves off and I repotted it into a bigger pot and it’s doing very well. It even sprouted new leaves. I wish I could show you. I bought pruning scissors because I didn’t want to damage it. I am so happy I did it and thanks for asking ❤️
There is no information here on how to water them. My plant has leaves drying up. It is my first and I my biggest struggle is not knowing how to water it. I am going to replant it because I think the pot is to small. How do you water this plant?
Watering is something that can be learned from experience, it will vary massivly depending on whwre you live in the world, where you keep it in the house and what time of year it is, so I can't tell you once a week or something like that, you need to get used to what it looks like when it needs watering, the pot will be noticably lighter when it's dried out, the leaves may start to droop a little. Put your fingert in the side of the soil, can you feel moisure in the soil, if yes it's still ok, you need to let ethe soil; dry a little inbetween watering, but not dry out completely, maybe the top inch of the soil becomes dry and you can water again. These plants are very tolerant so if your leaves are browig it may be due to sun scortching of the leaves rather than under watering, do you have it in direct sinlight? if so move it away from the direct sun, it needs well lit conditions but direct sun will scorch the leaves. Good luck
Any general-purpose soil is fine, these plants are not picky, general-purpose liquid houseplant feed is fine, but it doesn't need much if you are putting new soil in you won't need to feed it for a few months as the soil will already have nutrients. You can feed it once or twice in the summer and that's enough.
@@HouseplantHacks It is not in any sunlight. It is in the house due to snow and ice cold weather outside. It is winter now. The plant is beautiful. I got it in September when it was Autumn. I have 8 flowers and about 20 leaves. Is it better to replant into a bigger pot? It is a small plastic pot or does the size of the pots not really matter?
@@CR-lz6tt Yes, the plant can outgrow the pot eventually but winter isn't the best time to do it, I would just weep it watered in a bright spot for the winter and then take a look once the weather improves, if the pot has more roots and little space for compost then it could probably do with a bigger pot, there is no rush just now though as it won't hurt it for a few months even if it does need it.
My mom is sooo very creative. She is one of the most talented person I have seen. Please check the 2 TH-cam video i created using pictures from her vase arrangements using anthurium. Amazing. Search for ANTHURIUM on our TH-cam channel. I bet you will love it.
It's fine, if roots are broken it stimulates them to grow more and so can help them create more roots in thier new pot. As long as they are well established you don't need to be too delicate.
It’s not wordy at all! He’s literally so direct and walks you through it succinctly. I’m always baffled when people take something like this too seriously and take time out of their day to be shitty to someone who’s just trying to help you learn something new. I hope all your plants die. 👎🏼

You can repot and divide the plants into smaller clumps to make it more managable. Sounds very happy and healthy!
thanks andy i repotted some of my anthruiums but their leaves started getting brown i think its sunburn the plants that are under bushes are growing real good as they are in shade hopefully i can save the damaged ones n place them in the shade
They are quite strong plants, if you cut off the worst burnt leaves it should grow some fresh new ones in their place. Good luck.
Can you divide different coloured ones and have them growing together in the same pot?
Thats a great idea, no problem doing that at all.
Hi! My flowers/brats are all turning brown, I have a pink mini one. What am I doing wrong?
Maybe nothing, if you have had the flower a few months they will naturally die out, its the corcle of life I'm afraid.
We add dried coconut husk to them in my country
That's a good medium to grow them in Paula, thanks for your comment. :-)
Wonder how your front patio and backyard looks like. A tropical garden?
I wish Bryan! Our UK climate doesn't lend itself to such plants living outside but I do have a plan in mind to create something tropical on the premisis! Stay tuned for news of that project, it's going to be a big one! :-)
Can I cut off the flowers that are dying back, or do I just leave them please
I just bought one of these but it's red. There is one flower that I think is new but it's still folded at the tip. How long does it take for new flowers to flatten out?
They are quite slow growing so it might take a few weeks .
@@HouseplantHacks Thank you for your response. I'll be more patient.
Update: It turns out I had a thrip infestation and one of the signs is deformed new growth. They killed my arrowhead plant but thankfully I think I saved my anthurium.
Please I want to know what is the best soil suitable for the anthurium
They are quite tolerant of soil so any general houseplant mix will be fine.
just found your channel ! I love your videos
I thought they prefer a soilless mix?
Mine has got very leggy, can I trim it back? 😊
Yes, they really appreciate a good trim back it will stimulate a lot more new growth.
I burned my anthurium in the sun. Almost all the leaves are burned. What can I do to save my Anthurium?
All you can do is take it out of the direct sun and give it some time, keep watering as normal and hopefully it will grow more leaves to replace the burnt ones, don't cut the burnt ones off, if there is still some green on them they may still be able to produce energy for the plant. Good luck. Andy
Just received one of these has a present, any help would be appreciated
What can I do to get rid of aphids on the leaves? I think I overwatered.
You need to find a pest killer spray that targets aphids, or I think you can use a dilute washing up liquid in a spray bottle, I've never tried it though.
Great video, a new sub here!!!
Awesome thank you! Great to have you on board! :-)
Removing the Flowers?
Tnk u tnk u so so much sir for sharing this...
Most welcome.
If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. My plant is only a few months old, but most of the old leaves died off. It still has recently sent up a couple of blooms, the problem is the new leaves. They are not green! They are a deep reddish color. Does anyone know what is causing that?
Hey man can I use normal peat and moss potting mix for reporting my red anthurium ?!
Sure, the normal potting mix will be fine, they are tough plants and don't need anything special to grow in, what you have to hand will be fine.
Will we see an update on these??
Sure, I will do an update for you.
@@HouseplantHacks Niiice! Thank you!
They had this exact variety in Tesco for £7 including a ceramic cover pot! Do you know the name of this variety?
Thanks for the great video. I’ve never had an anthurium before! 👍🏻🪴
Do you use the same poring soil as you would use for orchids ?
My plant has the red flowers but they don’t have the yellow pointy thing ?
Sorry, I don't know what the yellow pointy thing is.
Could you kindly indicate the kind of soil you used in planting the anthurium? Thank you
Hi, you can use general purpose potting copost, you can use orchid bark, or spagnam moss, any such medium is fine for them.
Looks like you replanted them pretty deep?
I don't think so, the rhizome is still clear of the soil, I'm no expert so if you have some knowledge that they need to be planted higher out of the soil then normal then I'm happy to learn something new.
@@HouseplantHacks I was actually curious if I should repot mine deeper because the stalks are getting long - they are about 8 years old.
What type off soil does it need?
Any houseplant compost will be fine for this plant.
@@HouseplantHacks Thank you.
What if I cut off the yellow leaves???
That’s fine to cut off any yellow leaves. 👍
What kind of soil for that plant?
Any free draining mix will be fine Kimberly.
How do you make a plant food?
In most cases it is easier to buy plant food in liquid form from a store, you then addit to water and water your plants with it once per month in the growing season. There are some plants that you can cut and put into water for a few months that can act as a plant food but I would need to properly research and make a separate video about that I think.
@@HouseplantHacks yes! A video would be great! I’m not really an expert on plants, I just have a few! Thanks for replying!
Did you water them in after deviding ?
yes, its a good idea to give them a good water afterwards.
really lovely
Thanks!
my plant is growing sideways and i dont know what to do. i wanted t attack them so something so they grow up but they arre very firm and i dont want to break them
Hi Marta, they will naturrally grow towards your light source, so it's probably growing towards the window, you can balance this by rotating the plant round once per week and it should straighten up and start to grow in the other direction, if you keep rotating it each week it should grow more balanced.
Thank you! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You are very welcome!
If leaves are turning brown where do you cut them off?
You can cut them off at the base.
mine isnt standing up as high as it used to and the leaves and flowers are turning down im not sure what to do
It could be too harsh sunlight, is your plant by a window that gets direct sun? If not then too little water possibly.
Mine was doing good, suddenly started to droop, i repotted with better soil, good drainage and indirect bright light.. No success
Lets hope it pulls through.
Even the air roots will grow once you pot the babies
They do indeed! Mine have all grown air roots.
I don’t get it our plant is in a good place far from sun and is still browning.
It might be due to under watering if the sun is not burning the leaves Ashley.
Why is my blooms on my Anthurium green?I know it was red when I got it.
Good luck.
@@HouseplantHacks Thank you. Moved to a new location and will try the new window. We will see. Thanks again.
@@robinhaymes2009 Any time, let us know he it goes. Andy

👍
Hahahaha
@@spicydiabla how is it going after you cut the leaves?
@@neishacm5172 it is looking amazing. I cut a lot of leaves off and I repotted it into a bigger pot and it’s doing very well. It even sprouted new leaves. I wish I could show you. I bought pruning scissors because I didn’t want to damage it. I am so happy I did it and thanks for asking ❤️
There is no information here on how to water them. My plant has leaves drying up. It is my first and I my biggest struggle is not knowing how to water it. I am going to replant it because I think the pot is to small. How do you water this plant?
Also what soil do I get? And what do you call the fertilizer? I am completely new to house plants

Perché in una lingua che non si comprende .
OMGOSH you just yanked those roots! Not delicate at all.
It's fine, if roots are broken it stimulates them to grow more and so can help them create more roots in thier new pot. As long as they are well established you don't need to be too delicate.
@@HouseplantHacks I was joking 🙃 next time I have to remember to use an emoji
Sorry, way too wordy and did not even go into what to use for the potting mix.
