This is amazing! I’d safely say this video is one of the best reference guides for 80 series handbrakes restoration.
    Good job!

Excellent video. Can you by chance tell me the 4 part numbers I would need for oem shoes on both sides? I only see one shoe and it’s respective part number. Thank you!

Believe me I learned the hard way 🤣 Glad the video is helpful. We have not named our rig yet. Do you plan to remove and paint the backing plates while you have the brakes apart?

@@DouglasGreen562 no I’m not planning on removing the backing plates. I’ll just clean them up right where sit.

Hi Mate, have you got a reference to the heavy gauge spring being positioned to the front? I can't seem to find this in any of the manuals and everything on the net seems to be all over the place. My particular vehicle (which someone appears to have been in there before) the heavier gauge spring is the rear one. Even on partsouq, the description says "front" but then when you click it (to see the picture) the description is rear and vice versa. It's driving me nuts. For instance, if you look at the OTRAMM video, the heavier gauge is the rear most spring.

Great question and yes it drives me crazy too 😆. See if you can copy and paste this link into your browser. parts.earnhardtlexus.com/a/Lexus_1997_LX-450/_65511_6726522/PARKING-BRAKE--CABLE/792440-4601.html ...If you scroll down from the image to the part number list, you will see each of the springs on this site are marked with FR and/or RR. Part #90905A6001 is marked RR. Part #90016DY008 is marked FR. Let me know if this helps or just ends up pissing you off 🤘😁

I have three manuals (Ellery, Hayes and Gregory) and they all appear to show the heavier gauge at the rear (it's fairly easy to distinguish). But when I went to Toyota, they definitely list the heavier one as the front. I'm just wandering if at some point they decided to switch this. My part numbers are somewhat different to yours.
The other thing all over the place is how they are installed. You have done it as per the manual, front first and over the top, rear second under the bottom of the guide plate pin. But none of the manuals I speak of show it this way.
I think I'll just close my eyes and put it back together, this appears how Toyota did it in the first place.

I am glad you chimed in here as I omitted everything you are talking about from the video. The good news is, the way I assembled it in this video has the brake operating in a satisfactory manner despite the ambiguity in details. I am very curious to know what your particular part numbers are. You may have a supersession part number or cross reference part number that would be helpful to know.

90507-20016 (rear)/90507-23014 (front). Using partsorq, you can see a picture of the product, shows the heavy gauge as front. However, as stated earlier, when you click on the part the description changes to rear and vice versa (rear shows front when clicking on the part).
