Oh my goodness Mark, that story about your therapist that not only disagreed with you but also sided with your aggressor was nuts!!! I'm so sorry you had to put up with it! Whoever that person is, they deserved to be the target of a formal complaint because that's absolutely unprofessional! I'm happy that didn't make you lose hope and continue to seek help - major kudos to you! Just goes to show that even at our lowest, we have to be bold enough to assert limits. Sending lots of luck to anyone going through rough stuff!
@@marianar2948 right? I was having a hard time processing that they worked in mental health and they were OK with what they were doing. It seemed crazy to me. But thank you so very much. I'm also grateful I didn't let it stop me from pursuing my journey. I'm grateful I was able to find someone else to work with. And yeah, I also felt like I wanted to complain. But because everything was pro bono, I couldn't, and I didn't even know who their employer was. And yes, that's why I'm posting this, I also wish anyone else luck who feels like they're in a low. Because we all can dig inside and find the hope and the reasons to want to climb out and keep growing
I started with a new therapist yesterday. I got more out of him in one day than a year with my old one. I had a pretty dark time a few weeks ago when I was having suicidal thoughts. It was scary and intrusive, something fundamentally changed for a moment. But he gave me some good coping plans
@@dereksimpson1284 and I'm so glad you do have a coping plan now. So sorry if you were in the dark time like that. But I'm grateful you were able to work through it and find yourself a new therapist. Isn't it incredible the difference that relationship can make
@@markehlert979 it is. I never got what I needed from my first one, but I put up with it. We just never connected and I felt bad about it. I finally had to tell her I needed a change. Should have done it a long time ago
I think sometimes a relationship with a therapist has a finite timeline. My last one we went as far as we could on a specific topic and it was great but he didn't want to go off that topic. That's okay i just felt i gained what i needed on that subject and it was time to move on.
OK. Yeah, it's awesome that you were able to process and work through some things to be in a good place with it. But when you're ready to move on and your therapist isn't, and they want to stay hyper focused on the subject and keep you in that place, it's good to cut ties and move on
That's kind of where I am in my therapy. I was signed up to Dialectical Behavior Therapy against my will and under duress. I keep waiting for it to help and it makes me more stressed then when I was self medicating with over the counter supplements.
@@1984Brandon and I'm sorry if you can really tell it's not helping and if they made you against your will. Have you been telling your provider it's not helping? Because how long have you been doing your DBT? After long enough time and you notice it's not helping they should let you go back to medication's. But I really hope you find a Balance soon and you can find a provider that's working with you
@@markehlert979 It's weird I'm seeing a Doctor for Medicine, Case Worker, and a Therapist who all work in the same unit. The Therapist is starting a group session for the Dialectical Behavior Therapy or DBT. But they just signed me up for it without permission. And gave me a book I've been reading. The Group DBT hasn't started yet the therapist I'm seeing is trying to prepare me for it and it's like every week two appointments for the next year. My medical Doctor didn't show up to my last appointment so I'm sort of in a mood of "Why bother?"
