We always go up to northern Minnesota, and throw frogs at the lolly pads, but this is a really good strategy, and we will have to try it.
Man i just have never understood bass fishing. So food fish like salmon or crappie you dont mess around with. You get em in quick. But sport fish like carp, sturgeon, bluegill, musky, pike.. you set your drag low and battle em on lighter gear.
But bass no. Bass fisherman use oversized gear and skip em across the top of the water no matter how big they are. For what? To let em go and do it the exact same way again.
Its like fly fisherman with their tiny trout. Only that ish makes more sense

Sam have you ever done pitching and flipping heavy cover from the bank. It’s so hard to find helpful tips out there but I’ve learned how to and challenge you to make a tip video on how you find and land the bass flipping and pitching heavy cover from the bank. Examples are on my channel but It’ll be great if you make a video on flipping and pitching heavy cover from the bank. This is fishing not competing who’s better but to show each and everyone that you can still learn from one another. 👊🏻

A heavy rod is my next add to my small arsenal, but I was thinking more for froggin’ which it seems like you sometimes do well with from time to time… so many choices 😂. Thanks for the tutorial.

You ever fished coon lake? I know theres more than 14,000 lakes here so its a long shot. But if you have, what/where would you recommend i fish. Or any other lakes within an hour of the twin cities. Im green to fishing and only got my first boat this spring (1972 StarCraft Holiday) and I'm look to redeem myself after a poor opener on Saturday. Caught nothing, and didn't know how to use any of the jigs i was gifted from my grandpa.
Recommendations on lakes within an hour east bethel, ham lake, forest lake, and Minneapolis would be awesome. I also have a cabin up in finlayson that i could make a longer trip to if theres good fishing there. Again, im new and dont even know where to start researching.
When you’re jig fishing do you use straight broad to the jig, or ever have any fluoro leader or anything?

I could never look at a field of pads in the eyes and not think about my frog rod.
Ever try "rootbeer green" ultra tubes by chompers or "pumpkin pepper green fleck" tubes yum? They work great in northern Wisconsin clear and stained water.

Curious Sam, in conditions like that, what makes you decide to punch vs frog 🐸? I would tend to try frogging first.
On Guntersville I like it to be hot and dead slick calm for frogging and some clouds and wind to punch
My cabin lake sets up exactly like this lake and I try throwing the frog first, but they will rarely blow up on it through the thick dollar pads I pitch the same baits Sobi was using and can catch them all day long.
Frogging worked too just not as well. Earlier that morning I frogged a bit and they didn’t seem to commit/ eat the frog.
Frogging is deadly and WORKS! But if it seems like they aren’t eating it, that’s when I slow down to punching/ flipping the pads 👊
