That is not true soul (as evidenced by Jolan singing the winners song in almost a totally different voice altogether - I'll assume his real voice) . Funnily enough if you've ever listened to TTD's - now Sananda Maitreya - later work this song could easily have been written by him.
He's a kid it's natural for him to have trouble finding his own style and to lean on the style of others to start with. I suspect all artists do a bit of it as they find their way., (I'm not a musician but it's normal in most creative fields to lean on the talent of others whilst finding your own) It was a great performance.

I can’t believe he didn’t win! Just heard of Jolan in 2019 (today) and he’s fantastic! How someone with this talent isn’t a superstar I’ll never know. I’ve become a fan and taking in all his performances via TH-cam. I hope he’s still working on his music career because I want to hear more of that voice beyond what I can find on TH-cam today.

'Yes' is still my favourite performance, the attack in his voice is spot on, where vocal skill and passion create something truly special . Jolan should have won. His version of YES was outstanding and totally blew me away - dare I say that his version was better than the original by the great David McAlmont which is one of the best songs of all time. Absolute rubbish that Paloma had never heard of it. I thought that Jolan was completely at ease with the song and understood it totally hence the brilliant 'sarcastic move' in the middle when he turned back- so well timed. I do so hope that Jolan makes an album and please please put YES on it. He is a fantastic, charismatic performer with an outstanding voice and should have been THE VOICE

in hindsight I think this is one of the best (if not the best) performance of this year's liveshows
