Hi! My freeze frame is not in the same original position of the starting frame of the clip when it transitions. I have to zoom in the Freeze Frame x/y settings to 1.025 to achieve a similar starting position frame at the transition of the continued clip. Any idea what is causing this issue?
Just started with Davinci, (didn't want to pay Adobe a monthly fee) really enjoying the ease of use and amazing results, from this well written & designed software, already found a few things, but you explained so much more in just one short video, thank you Alex, subscribed
Useful and so well presented, thank you. Also I find it disturbing when so many other presenters teaching colour grading look like they're in a cave with ghastly skin tones. You look sharp and well exposed with great skin tone.
Only yesterday I watched a guy talking about an accessory for the Osmo Pocket 3. He was black, he was wearing a baseball cap with a large peak, the lighting was subdued and as a result his eyes just disappeared . It was very disconcerting, almost disturbing and really detracted from his narrative, which was good and well delivered. It disturbed me to the point that I felt the need to comment on it. He took my comment in good spirit, and agreed that lighting was a priority.
Thank you Alex. I've been doing this wrong for years. I love how the this allows the freeze frame to ramp down to stop, then ramp up to full speed. The effect just looks incredible. I love your ability to guide us through the thought process, and pointing out what each tool does in the process. Thanks again.
Thank you Alex. I like the approach you have taken in repeating the steps of the suboptimal routes to reinforce the best way. It helps retention very much. Clear precise, no deviations, just spot on descriptive and visual learning.
Thank you for explaining the trim edit mode! I had a panic attack when I saw that getting overwritten when you first dragged it out :D Loving the features of Davinci
So glad I had the "bell" turned on so this came up first in my feed. This is super helpful since I have been fumbling around with your first two options for a while. Thanks a ton.
What a beautiful tutorial...Interesting, really well explained. My clips with FREEZE FRAME will never be the same. Thank you for teaching us so well how to be more professional.
Alex, coming from Avid Media Composer as well as Final Cut Pro Studio, I am now a tru fan of DaVinci Resolve Studio and am glad I have found you and others with your skills to help speed up the learning curve. Thanks so much for this tutorial and look forward to others yet to come.
Kinda stung a bit following along to find out it's not exactly what I wanted until the proper technique was shown later in the video, but my goal was achieved much smoother than what I thought I had to do....oh wow. this is a new video. I was expecting years ago or something. Thanks for the upload.
Very nice. This is my first time here and I'm quite pleased I've found you: straight-up presentation, clear as possible, and undoubtedly useful. Thank you.
Really great video and clear instruction. Thank you. The point that caught my attention was when you mentioned the clip being at a frame rate of 23.976. I have footage shot on a laptop camera that is in that ballpark (29.97). The video and audio simply do not synch up. I'm wondering if retiming and scaling would fix this.
Great comprehensive overview of the freeze frames Alex, thank you! I usually do lot's of speed ramps and jump directly to the retime curves, but freeze frame as you showed looks cool indeed - will definitely try to use them in my next videos! Cheers!
Hello, this is so useful for me. I was fiddeling with exporting one frame, saving it as PNG, importing it back to DVN and inserting to the timeline. Thank you for sharing this idea.
Great video. Learned a lot. But it doesn't seem to apply the freeze frame on the linked audio for the clip. Anyway to apply the same freeze frame and curve to the audio?
Amazing! What if you wanted to freeze at the end and duplicate the clip from that end point forward in REVERSE with the freeze from the beginning of the reversed copy?
Was going to subscribe, but I already had. This was well done. Learned more than one thing, but will have to watch it at least once more. English is my native language, and since I was born in 1945, I’ve had considerable practice, near Toronto and elsewhere. You don’t have a strong accent, but do speak rapidly, for my ears. Your videos would be the same length if you spoke more slowly and your sentences more compactly constructed. Clarity would be enhanced too. I admit to saying this to other creators as well. I’m doubtful I will have much impact. Keep up the good work though.
Thanks so much, Edward. I am listening and will try and take that onboard. To be honest, I’d prefer to go slower and make slightly longer videos but always worry people are busy and want me to get to the point. Duly noted and really appreciate your comments. Thanks so much.
Thank you, Alex! I was just thinking about doing something like that, but instead of freezing it I was going to screenshot the part to add text to the image… for this I need to know for how long can I freeze it? Because I need the people to read some five lines of text. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and your question. If I understand right you’d like to know roughly how long to freeze frame for so people can read the text. Is that right? My rule of thumb on this is, start with the freeze frame the length it takes you to read the text yourself twice. Then dial back if you feel it’s too long. Because you know the text and are expecting it to come up if you only read it once it probably won’t be long enough. I always tend to leave text on screen at least 4-5seconds (where possible) for a few lines of text.
Thank you so much and appreciate the feedback. The vocal? Oddly, I did check it as I thought that myself but was hitting the same level on the meters. I’ll double check for the next one! Thanks again for watching! 🙏🏻
@@AlexCameron-DepiqdThank you very much Alex. It is better to learn the correct method through an official trainer. The sound is just right and the VU-meters show the same, nothing in the red area. Great job. 👍🏻
i hated having to have a subscription for premiere pro but jesus things like this are so simple. need a freeze fram, just hit this button that saves your frame. whoa, crazy. ive been recommended davinci by so many people and I have no idea why, things that SHOULD be easy are annoying as hell
Grate prdsentation fast enouthe for the experianced editor for a refresher but slow enough for the beginner. What I need on single camera shoot of a comedy skit where the MC explains the act I have to wip the camare from the Podim to the stag. I CANNOT change the tootle length of the videol I just wasn the last frame of tthe MC to freeze and replac the wippong and resome when the wipping stops but the audio continues on. Premiere used to alow me to make make a cut at start and finish and pick the whole still at first frame/Last frame or any frame in the mddel as the freeze fram for the full duration of the camera wip. How do I do that in DR with out lengthing the time line. The timeline is all based off from a master audio track and can not be changed.
What happens if you use render in place, but then decide you need to make adjustments again? Can you get it back to original state, then run render in place to update the previous render file?
I hav a clip of 2 peoplw conversing but but Physicaly far apart. As the first person finishes a Statement, the second person starts talking & I rapidly pan the camera and catch the 2nd person in frame as he finishing his statement. Now I want to Freeze Frame from the end of the first persons statement to where the second person is in full frame & for that 2 seconds and hear the second persons responce but freezed framed then continue with the clip to finish as moving video. i.e' Remove the Wip Pan and still have a freeze frame & Audio During Pan, then continue with to the end of the Clip. How?
Freeze frame in DR is terrible. There should be a whole function where it would decelerate the previous N frames\ms (Optic flow, like a slow-mo), then show the freezed frame as a still image clip or markings, then an accelerated flow to the remaining of the clip or next clip. In other words a freeze frame should be sort of a 'transition'. Very intuitive and great.
Hi Alex, fantastic tutorial - would it be possible to speak a little bit slower?? As a non native English speaking person it would be fantastic to follow your instructions without repeating every 10 seconds.... Thanks, Waendi
Trying to create a simple GD freezeframe is exposing Davinci as a convoluted, clunky, non-intuitive piece of trash software. Why in God's holy name can't I simply right click on a clip and select "insert freezeframe" and have it create a simple freezeframe at that spot without affecting the entire rest of the clip? Or worse, the entire clip? This is really REALLY stupid. Fix it, Blackmagic. Fix it.
DaVinci resolves in its interface is not intuitive, I have the studio edition and it’s clunky interface and the hoops you have to go thru to do simple things are mind boggling, I’ve got cheapo and free programs the dang near read your mind. The reason? It started as a color corrector, the programmers don’t know want intuitive is, it’s not a part of their vocabulary.

A real Great tip for me as a noob to Davinci. Thanks a lot. Is there an option to save these setting to reuse it on an other clip?

When I do this on a clip with audio, the audio gets bad when slowing down. Is there a way to fix this?

Once you Render in Place a new command appears right under it: Decompose to Original.
