    I've seen Kansas live almost 15 times because it seemed as though they opened for every major band back in the 70's but for me, so often they could have been the major band because they sounded just as good if not better than the main band. I have everything they ever released plus many live shows and still one of my favorite bands to this day. Thank you for posting this great interview.

    Rich you are a Rockstar. I've spent a lifetime learning your licks and solos. At 62, I literally play Kansas Songs on my guitar and keyboards almost every day. What an impact this band has had on my life!

    Looking forward to more. I remember an interview done with Robby Steinhardt (RIP), he described Kansas as being married to five other guys. Hearing Rich also describe the bond as a marriage confirms the connection that remains. This band came from the heartland, and they created and played from the heart. Very different from bands that came from east/west coast cities. .

    Kansas truly seem to be one of the most down to earth bands ever. I had the great pleasure of meeting them in 1983 and they had us laughing just listening to them talk to one another. I’m glad they are still going.

    The first time I heard of Kansas was in 1976 at age 12. I heard 'Carry On Wayward Son' and was awestruck. First time I saw the band was when they did 'Dust In The Wind' on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on TV. You gotta pull that up on TH-cam. The fog, Rich & Kerry sitting beside each other playing and Steve standing beside Robby in the background was majestic. Ironically, Point of Know Return was the first Kansas album I bought then I bought Leftoverture later on. This is one band besides YES that cemented Progressive Rock in History...Thanks, Rich & John for this interview!...

    John, your interviews are among the best I’ve ever watched. You choose top drawer artists, many of whom I only know through their recordings. Through your work, I get to know them as human beings. It’s evident that they feel great sense of trust in you. They actually get enough time and space to tell their stories without being interrupted with banal comments from overzealous talking heads. That’s a rare setting for people whose lives tend to be overwrought with obnoxious journalists. Excellent work, my friend! You’re a true asset to the world of broadcasting.

    Good to hear from Rich & glad to see he's doing well. I became aware of them in high school in the mid 70's, but became a HUGE fan during college. Got to see them live the 1st time at SMSU, or what is now MSU in Springfield MO, during the Audiovisions Tour. Fantastic concert, still rates in the top 3 of the concerts I've seen. I've seen them 8 to 10 times since. Even though it's not the original band anymore, they still put on a great show.

    Love hearing from Rich about his mindset and how these guys interact. So much great music, and I love the commitment and the new output. I'd love to know why Zak decided to leave because I thought that returning to the 2 guitars was a plus - but I know Rich is more than capable of handling the load.

    • @equinox7125
      @equinox7125 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fully agree - it seemed odd that Zak left after contributing such incredible Kansas music to the last few albums - The Voyage of Eight Eighteen is right on par with Song for America! His departure came with no real explanation or context. In the meantime, David Ragsdale is still more than capable of doubling on guitar when needed.

    Though my band played a couple of their tunes, I never paid much attention to Kansas. After watching a couple of these clips with Mr. Williams I will now go see what I have been missing. What a genuine chap he is. Also, thank you for letting him just speak and not pushing hard on the interviewer agenda, which happens all to often on other channels.

      Just saw them in Savanah...ROCK AND ROLL SYMPHONY...i've seen them probably a half dozen times from mid to late 70s to early 80s , some of the finest music ever produced in my opinion vocally and musically and the lyrical aspect of it is way up there ......!

    Not easy touring when you get past seventy, even sixty has its challenges but touring like a rockstar in your seventies like Gene and Paul is. Yeah, it was super cool in your twenties, but now, as you roll off the bed with the groupies, at the same time as the viagra, and the blood pressure pills it can be challenging. lol Fun, but challenging nonetheless

    I have all, and I mean ALL of the Kansas albums. They remain to release superb albms like Prelude Implicit and The Absence of Prescence. It's a shame that the joke R&R Hanof Fame has not included them. They instill idiots and felons like Flavor Flav. Kansas has always and remains my favorite band.
