  • I'm reviewing Collective Soul's Here to Eternity album and then ranking it alongside their entire discography. Is Here To Eternity too long, too bad, or just right? Do they really return to their best selves in sound on this record or do they just try and cash grab their past successes with a rehash of their biggest hits. Also, my ranking is a one big hot take so prepare to be shocked and awed as we go from worst to best Collective Soul albums and see what the Number One spot goes to. It's a total shocker.

I'm glad to see Vibrating get some love, that's a great album! Not my favorite but a great album indeed!
I actually just put up 2 Collective Soul videos myself, really liking the new album as well
And you're comments about the album cover reminds me of Bon Jovi, their new album is another black and white cover, third album in a row, and before that was the brown paper bag album cover of Burning Bridges lol

Thank you! I've had a great time revisiting this catalogue. Not many people talk about Collective Soul, despite them being a successful band.

Collective Soul are my #5 best group of musicians...I am stunned that they can still write such amazing songs...HERE TO ETERNITY is certainly going to make my Top 10 albums of 2024! Top 3 songs from the new album would have to be 'Hey Man', 'Kick It', and 'Mother's Love'.
I have to say that CS xcel better for me with their harder, riffier 'River Flows' type of songs...Their lighter stuff is great, but they should have stuck, in my opinion, to the style of their 1995 selftitled album...
Having said that , my ranking is:-
    12. Youth
    11. Dosage
    10. Rabbit
    9. Hints, Allegations
    8. C What U Start
    7. Blender
    6. Blood
    5. Afterwords
    4. HERE 2 ETERNITY
    3. Disciplined Breakdown
    2. Vibrating
    1. Collective Soul

Awesome! I'm actually digging into the singer's side gig in The Sweet Tea Project right now and seeing what it's like.

Really surprised at your bottom 4. Dosage is regarded as their best or second best by most fans.Always interesting how people hear things so differently

@@JCStorm76 For me, Dosage is overrated...'Heavy' is arguably Collective Soul's best song ever?.. It's up there with Shine, December, Where the River Flows, Precious Declaration etc...I think that single makes the album more exposed than it would have been...But there are also other factors...1) Tremble For My Beloved was in the Twilight movie...That brought new fans on board as that was a major blockbuster movie. 2) The hidden song, 'She Said' was a huge hit on the Scream 2 soundtrack, giving the album more exposure...3) Run was a big single..A lot of casual CS fans identify CS with this song...You can talk about a song like 'Gel' or 'Why Part 2' , some rock fans will say, I've heard that, but they don't know which band sings it...Talk about,"Run' and most know it as a CS song.
For me Heavy is brilliant ..will make my top 5 definitely ...But Tremble and Run are average for me, esp Tremble is probably the worst opening track on any CS album..Compare it to Shine, Simple and Precious Declaration, even Skin off Blender is a better opener...Dosage to me was just too commercially structured to even make my top 10...A lot of the songs were too slow in my opinion and forgettable..Don't like Ross Childress' song Dandy Life either ...Doesn't fit their style for me...
As for YOUTH, this was the album after Childress' departure and it shows..It sounds stale to me with the least passion of any CS release ...Having said that I do love 'How Do You Love?" and 'Under Heaven's Skies'..
But you must know I love Collective Soul so much...They got me into rock music when I was just 17....All their albums are 10/10 for me, except Rabbit is a 9/10, Dosage a 8.5/10 and Youth a 8/10...SO even though they are at the bottom of my list, THEY STILL COOL AND ROCK LIKE HELL!🥳
