Conor McGregor is an Irish retired professional mixed martial artist and boxer. He is the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion.
McGregor started his MMA career in 2008 and, in 2012, he won both the Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight Championships, holding both titles simultaneously before vacating them to sign with the UFC. In 2015, at UFC 194, he defeated José Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship via knockout thirteen seconds into the first round, which is the fastest victory in UFC title fight history. Upon defeating Eddie Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 205, McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously.
McGregor began his professional boxing career in 2017. In his debut boxing match, he was defeated by Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) draw in MMA history, having headlined four out of the six highest-selling UFC pay-per-view events. His headline bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 drew 2.4 million PPV buys, the most ever for an MMA event. His boxing match with Mayweather drew 4.3 million PPV buys in North America, the second most in history. As of 27 March 2019, he is #8 in the official UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
Conor McGregor was born in Crumlin, Dublin on 14 July 1988, the son of Tony and Margaret McGregor. He was raised in Crumlin and attended a Gaelscoil and Gaelcholáiste at both primary and at secondary level in Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght, where he also developed his passion for sport, playing association football. In his youth, he played football for Lourdes Celtic Football Club. At the age of 12, McGregor also began boxing at Crumlin Boxing Club.
In 2006, McGregor moved with his family to Lucan, Dublin, attending Gaelcholáiste Coláiste Cois Life. Following that, he commenced a plumbing apprenticeship. While in Lucan, he met future UFC fighter Tom Egan and they soon started training mixed martial arts (MMA) together.
Mixed martial arts fighting style
McGregor is known mostly as a striker and prefers to fight standing up, as opposed to on the ground. McGregor is left handed and primarily fights out of the southpaw stance, but often switches to an orthodox stance. He will frequently try to be the aggressor in his bouts. McGregor's boxing is typically considered his best skill, with the majority of his victories coming by way of knockout or technical-knockout via punches. Many pundits cite McGregor's pull-back left-handed counter as his most dangerous strike.
McGregor will almost always engage in trash talk and "psychological warfare" against his opponents, which has led to comparisons with Muhammad Ali, whom McGregor cites as one of his early inspirations.After Ali died in June 2016, McGregor opined that "nobody will ever come close to [Ali's] greatness". McGregor has also cited Bruce Lee as an inspiration, and compared himself to Lee.

There is zero chance that anyone trying to fight Lee wouldn't take the fight to the ground early and often to negate his speed advantage.

They many times had to slow either Bruce or the camera down to get the right shots.
M Davis - They made him look faster, not slower. I've heard he could throw 8 chain punches a second. They are a weak type of punch. I am significantly heavier and longer than Lee and can throw 6 a second, so 8 isn't particularly impressive.

I'm not a gamer, but these are entertaining to watch. If we're talking about real fighting skills and such, I noticed in all the Lee fights so far that his stamina goes down faster than most of his opponents. This really wouldn't be true in real life. The backbone of his martial artistry is his physical conditioning. For his form to be the best, he knew he had to be well conditioned. He also didn't ever expend the energy in a sparring match like he would here so there's that I guess. He didn't throw down a move or bounce around as much as his opponent and usually only would attack when he saw his opening. But overall, pretty cool videos.
What we need to do is look at all of the fight footage of Bruce lee........ he was like 237 and 0 right. He is literally the game of telephone, it's truly amazing. Every story is more ridiculous than the last. Too bad he passed in 73 before the invention of the camera in 1974 right.

I don't understand some of Bruce Lee's fans logic. He did some truly great things for the short amount of time he was on Earth. More than most people could do in 100 lifetimes. He contributed to martial arts and bodybuilding as well as acting. He's the reason millions of people got into martial arts to begin with. A real martial artist respects his contributions, but does not make him out to be some god of martial arts. He's never been tested. He's had one fight and there are 2 different stories to it. What relevant martial artist comes from a background in Jeet Kune Do? No one, that's who.
The Gracie's developed their own style from traditional Japanese Ju jitsu. It's a style that works, and if you want to be successful in MMA, bjj is a must. Even if you're a wrestler, or judo guy, you have to have some knowledge of basic bjj. Period. This is a martial art that has beaten every striking martial art known to man. First 3 UFC events were won by Royce Gracie.
