    Beautiful trail. As a native Texan, I’m ashamed I haven’t heard of this trail! Thank you for documenting this!

      Thanks for checking it out! I lived in Texas for 30 years and had never heard of it either, I just happened to see a youtube video on it and decided to check it out.

      Do you ever hike when the temperatures get below the 40's. We are going this next weekend and looks like we have a cold spell. Do you have any small compact heater suggestions for the tent?

      I do hike in the winter, I watch the weather and try to find a mild weekend but I would say it's been down in the 20's a few times at night. I just have a good sleeping bag and I also carry some type of clothes for sleeping only. Some thick wool trekking socks, some thermal type underwear, a long sleeve shirt and I usually have a beanie and my coat if it gets super cold. I have worn all of them to sleep in before. Put the rain fly on the tent to keep out the wind, camp away from water and don't sleep in your wet, sweaty hiking clothes. I do not know of any heater that you can put in a tent. I hope some of this helps!! Also, I think you sent me friend request on Facebook but when I tried to accept it was gone......

      Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't want to seem intrusive on FB. I saw your FB and was like, this dude is cool. Im a huge metal fan and a Harley rider, but again I didn't want to seem intrusive. I'll send another request for sure.
      We are hiking this weekend, gonna get in the 40's so I think we should be fine, but thought I'd ask nonetheless. We are a little warm blooded down here (from Houston) and I've never camped/hiked in cold weather without a heater. Lol

    that snake is what's called a buttermilk racer, harmless lizard eater, I thought I had caught a special patterned corn snake when I caught one. One of the odd diurnal (day active) snakes.

      love the footage of the lake and the lush greenery in the few 100s of yards around it by the way

      I was wondering what that snake was, the closest thing I could find was an East Texas rat snake but after looking at pictures of the Buttermilk racer I'm sure you're right, Thanks!!

      Yeah, Lake Conroe was definitely one of the highlights of the trail, I liked the Double Lake area as well.

    How did you get to trail head #1 from your car

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had my amazingly cool girlfriend follow me down there and help me stage my car and she dropped me at the first trailhead!

      I have the Sawyer 2 liter, the Sawyer Mini, and the Sawyer Squeeze. I even bought a life straw for some reason and have never used it. My favorite by far is the Sawyer squeeze.

    what type of Pack were you carrying

    • @somewhereonthetrail
      @somewhereonthetrail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the Granite Gear Blaze AC60, it's been a very durable pack but there are packs that are much lighter. it weighs 2 pounds 11 ounces. I hope to switch it out before I do another long hike.

    • @mesquiteguy121
      @mesquiteguy121 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can still get them, they used to sell them at REI but I ordered mine from Granite G
      ear because I wanted the orange and they didn't carry it there. They go for $239.00

      Okay. Thanks. I have a US Military Alice Pack. But i want to get something better. Im also using a Northface Recon park for short day hikes. For now. Hoping to upgrade it too. Sometime in the near future.

      Maybe check out the Granite Gear VC 60, it's 40 dollars cheaper and it's also about 7 or 8 ounces lighter. I've seen people use on the PCT........
