  • The Start: Trailhead 1 to Lake Conroe.
    Day 1 of a thru hike of the Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT) I started in the first weeks of February 2023. Along with fellow Texan backpacker Eli, of ‪@TheAdventuresofEli‬, we began our attempted 96.4 mile hike of the longest point to point trail the state of Texas has to offer. Trail conditions were quite wet after several weeks of heavy rains with temperatures fluctuating between the low 30’s and low 70’s throughout the hike.

    Great Video, Jerry. 😊 My husband found your channel and we’ve both really enjoyed watching your adventures. We plan on going to the Lone Star Trail as soon as this Texas weather becomes tolerable again. :)

      Thank you for watching! Hopefully the forest service and LSHT volunteers can’t get the trail open by fall. Unfortunately the spring storms have caused havoc with the trail and national forest with much of both under a closed order.

    Awesome section. Yes, a lot of water from recent rains...and I'd drink that water too if I was dying of thirst LOL. parking your butt looked awesome to me. Wow, the trail was a stream... lol. beautiful when the sun came out. Wow, the lake was great, worth getting to that to camp. Big day. Really nice view over the lake. And a nice sunset.

    Good first day. Y'all got good miles in. Keep that up and I bet it didn't take y'all as long to finish as you guys thought. The trail is so flat it makes for easy miles. Pretty much looked like I remembered it. Looked like the Florida Trail with all the water you had to walk through.

      Thank you sir!
      A couple of unexpected and unfortunate curves ahead slowed progress but that’s part of the experience. Keep on moving!✌️

    It is nice to see the trails is still there. In 1970's it had some trail, but was more a loose mapped trail with a lot of old logging roads. Most of the board walks were built back over 35 years ago. Thank you for documenting your journey. Safe travels.

      I’ve been surprised how many folks in the backpacking community have never heard of the LSHT. I’ve enjoyed learning about the history of the area. Thank you and thanks for watching.

    Great start to your trip. I guess I did not realize there was a wilderness area or public land in Texas. I thought it was mostly private lands. Nice forest area. I know I wouldn't like that wet trail though. My feet get trashed hiking in water. No bushwhacking there with all those thorn bushes. Yikes. Great views of the lake from camp. Good to see Eli with you. You two are crushing the miles. Well done. Have a great day.

    That lake and sunset were beautiful. 16 miles in a day is a good trek, what weight do you have your pack dialed in at?

    • @tangenttrails
      @tangenttrails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Base weight is at 11.5lbs. Total winter weight is around 30lbs. depending on the food and water carry. We resupplied every 3 days.

    • @tangenttrails
      @tangenttrails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wetness. I had blisters forming after wearing Sealskinz the first day. I switched to wearing Injinji socks and no problems after that.
