  • Gouy's Method Apparatus is designed for the determination of magnetic susceptibility of solid samples. The apparatus consists of a pair of electromagnets , with electromagnet power supply , a digital gauss meter , a sensitive balance, and a sample.
    The magnetic field is measured using a digital Gauss meter.
    The sample weight measurements are taken with the help of a Gouy balance.
    In the Gouy's method of susceptibility measurement the solid sample in the form of a long cylinder is hung from the pan of a balance and is placed in such a way that one end of the sample is between the pole pieces of the magnet and the other one is outside the field. The force exerted on the sample by the inhomogeneous magnetic field is obtained by measuring the apparent gain or loss in sample weight.

    why the sample should be one half inside the field and one half out of it?

      Probably because we require a non uniform magnetic field

      It is gauss meter not sample

    This is an awesome video, thank you.
    Could you please share the formula to calculate magnetic susceptibility?

      magnetic susceptibility formula for solid is:
      χ = μ⁰ *(2mg/AB²)

    • @arahman3897
      @arahman3897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Where χ = susceptibility of the material
      A = Area of cross section of the substance in metre square
      g = Acceleration due to gravity
      m = Effective mass of the specimen due to magnetic field
      μ⁰ = 4π*10-⁷ Wb/Am
