The rules where already established when Buakaw joined. But it is a nice legend.
No they did change the ruling for the year after he first won the K1 championship .
It's no legend, it's a fact. The rules were changed because Buakaw was defeating all comers. That's how much better Buakaw was than his peers. Just ask all the dudes he beat before the rule changes.
When I was 7 years old, I used to train in Muay Thai. than actually punching It was so brutal........and when my body was ready to fight I missed, got kicked high and my jaw broke when I was 14 😩😩😩 it was so sad 🇹🇭

Most Muay Thai fighters start around 7-8 yrs old due to poverty, they fight almost daily for a few dollars. Its for survival. That's how they rack up 200++ wins and have 20+ years of experience even before hitting 30yrs old.
He is like a idol of Muay Thai. When someone says Muay Thai, Muay Thai fans will think of his face. Just as martial arts fans hear Muay Thai, they imagine Tony Jaa. In the era when he won the K1 championship, just one of his sweat towels could drive Japanese fans crazy because they wanted it.
When I hear Muay Thai, I think of Samart Payakaroon, the Jade Faced Executioner, first.
There are so many greats, and Buakaw is certainly near the top of the list, along with Saenchai, Kaoklai, Somluck, Namsaknoi, Dieselnoi, etc.

Like someone else has already stated since you've reacted to all of these Muay Thai greats you probably should continue and check out the video about Lerdsila. Lerdsila due to his reflexes, defence and ability to read his opponents he's kind of the Pernell Whitaker or Locche Nicolino of Muay Thai.
