I love Muay Thai. They are so respectful of their opponent. Seanchai and all great Muay Thai fighters would get on their knees and bow down with their head to the floor where their opponent stands or got knocked down and beg for forgiveness for beating them. So honorable.

The kick in which Saenchai does a somersault and then kicks the opponent's head is called "Ma Deed Kaloke" (Ma Deed Kaloke in Thai) meaning that the horse kicks the head. It is an ancient Thai boxing which before Muay Thai was adapted as a sport. Muay Thai used to be a martial art on the battlefield. When it changed to a sport, there were many postures of Muay Thai that were banned because it was dangerous to life because it was a martial art used to fight on the real battlefield, used to kill the opponent.😊🇹🇭

Partially it's our own fault because even with a sport, a discipline the western world and its broadcasting channels tend not to really pay Asia any or much mind. So we don't see what these guys can do.
Also, as parents, we in the west often actually discourage children from making decisions on what they wanna do... Granted in Thailand many are sort of forced into it which is not what we want either, but there's gotta be a balance where you allow people to start pursuing their dreams early on, rather than just saying: don't do that; you might not make it and will have wasted your future options.
However, you look at it, this distinction as it currently stands, does create very different outcomes. Often times we in the west will have some sort of fighting champion who has fought like 40 fights in his career and won 37 thereby making him in our books unbeatable and the greatest fighter in a generation and then some Thai guy will crossover into ONE who we've never heard anything about it and assume to be pretty much a rookie, with 300 fights under his belt, 5 years younger than our veteran champion and this is no match...
This has happened with the likes of Lerdsila and Saenchai who really only grew in popularity in the west later on in their career. When Lerdsila moved to the states no one knew him... and no one could touch him either. Same with Saenchai, he's said after beginning to fight western champions of the sport that he needs to switch his brain back on when he goes back to Thailand, because in Thai fights he needs to at least pay attention which he wasn't really used to anymore.

Actually what this guy forgot was he entered a fight under standard Thai rules in this event. Or maybe he wasn't aware of them at all. In traditional Muay Thai not only is it not illegal to hit or kick your opponent in the back; it gives bonus points. This is because by doing so you show superiority in movement. Clearly if you can get behind their back to land that hit... you just outmaneuvered them like nobody's business and that is worth a reward.
