500 OHC - The Legend from Jawa

  • In this video you will see a motorcycle that is extremely attractive to motorcycle collectors. The Jawa 500 OHC was the last motorcycle from Jawa with a four-stroke engine. It was also the last motorcycle from Jawa of its own construction, whose engine capacity was greater than 350 cc. In the period before the Second World War, Jawa produced motorcycles with a four-stroke engine and, for racing purposes, with a volume higher than 500cc, even supercharged with a compressor. In post-war Czechoslovakia, interest in small, cheap and simple two-stroke engines grew, so Jawa stopped producing four-stroke engines with a larger engine capacity.
Many thanks to all bikers and motorcycle fans who contributed their videos to our motorcycle channel. If you have a motorcycle at home that you built yourself, or an old, interesting or unusual motorcycle that you would like to show, please send me short videos from your camera or mobile phone to: We Transfer - jawatinomoto@gmail.com
I will process your videos and publish them on our motorcycle TH-cam channel - Jawa Tino.

The engine is way too powerful for it's frame.
The frame would often twist and bend, sometimes even crack.

One of the most beautiful bikes I’ve seen. Why cant they build simple elegant motorcycles like this anymore?

Cos it would be far too expensive.

Thank you (from Australia). Lots of Jawas and CZ's on the road when I was growing up in New Zealand in the 1960's. But I never saw one of these. My brain sees a 350 two stroke even though I know it's a 500 four stroke.

Like how the bars mount inside the extended nacelle.

    I freaking love it…!
Very unique way to drive the cam and overhead valves …!

Not usual but far from unique.

Norton, Nimbus, Ducati and racing BMWs used bevel gears and there were plenty more. They were relatively common at some point but expensive and noisy so got replaced by other methods to drive overhead cams.

i like the forms of that Jawa 500 OHC, the forms look round & harmonic together, cute; the round housing of the headlight that flows into the fork below and the little duck tail on the front fender, a nice sight. i would like that bike in a dark gray color or light blue. there should be shield in front of the knees and lower legs of the rider, that would protect the legs more and the wind drag would be lower, so that the fuel consumption decreases and topspeed can be higher with less wind drag. there is some nice classic bikes in this channel.

@@retiredbore378 i dont know that many different bike models, maybe there would be some british designed bike that looks as nice as that Jawa 500 OHC, i dont know. have you seen the other bikes in this channel ? that PMZ-A-750 for example, that thing looks sturdy and has cute round forms too, similar to the BMW R11, nice classic bikes from the past.

The 500 OHC can hardly be the last four-stroke motorcycle from Jawa since Jawa is producing four-stroke motorcycles as we speak, the first production model since the 500 (not counting prototypes, test series etc.) appearing in 2003. Maybe they meant 'the last four-stroke engine from Jawa'? That would be true, but maybe not much longer, as Jawa has had their own 1000cc and 1200cc engines in the testing stage for quite a while now.
