Every game that is in Beta everyone is like "it's just beta bruh, the game is going to be much better at release", and then the game releases and barely anything changes.
Thing is the mainstream companies use betas to get money nowadays,they aren't really betas anymore.
The hope is that this actually is a real,old school beta where they still want to improve the game.

James G That is partially the reason. Plus, it's not even a AAA company. I don't understand why it's such a big deal. A lot of it has to do with accessibility. Not everyone has a PC with dual Titan X graphics cards and an i7-6700k.

Remember, this is a Beta. if you go onto their forums you would see that the bayonet charging is a placeholder until they have finished animation work for the full release.
My bayonet is fine thank you, it doesn't need to be fixed. I could affix my bayonet too my weapon however.

The game probably doesn't look as good as Triple A titles. But on the upside the guns in this game feel fantastic relative to the ones in RO2 and RS.

I absolutely love RO2, played it for years and worked really hard to support the community around it. The trouble I had with it was that there was no 3D VOIP which I feel the game really needs. The first few seconds of the video really highlight why it's important.

Having no hands is not a bug but a feature where it represents the fantom pain a soldier might experience after a limb. It comes with the PTSD.
Kind of a shame this wasn't made with Unreal Engine 4. Although I'm personally a "gameplay first ,graphics last" guy , I just can't stop thinking how awesome it would look in UE4. UE3 doesn't really seem to handle that dense vegetation environment of the jungle from a visual perspective. Especially when you consider the fine quality of the audio and the various new mechanics ,everything has been upgraded from RS1 excluding visuals.

meh it looks even more arcade-ish than RO 2. It's more like Insurgency now. No teamwork no nothing. Just running around shooting. Closed beta means this is pretty much how it will play in full release. Well the Darkest Hour: Europe 44'-45' devs just released a new update so I guess I am going back to RO 1...
looks like they still kept in the different running animations for different factions, the vietnamese sprint holding the weapon in one hand while GI has both hands on the weapon. Works pretty well in this setting too.

On RO2 there is a check box in the options to disable/ enable zoom while sprint, maybe you over looked it in the menus

In real time the 30 rounds magazine was coming after Vietnam war. But it was used by us military in Laos & Cambodia. After the fall of saigon in 1975
And the tiger stripes uniform used by the special force(and macv), LRRP, Mike force and a few number in regular soldier.
Actually the 30 rounds magazine got deployed in Vietnam in early 1969-1972.

Folding the stock changes the rifle from a long range weapon to a CQB weapon. It is better for hip-fire and tight areas.

I loved RO with all the vehicles and limbs being shot off etc. I.E. shooting someone's hand dropped their rifle and made them use a pistol.

Yea,But this is gonna be more complex.This game used a system where you need to kill enemies to unlock new weapon.
Just like the previous game.Level 25 and level 50(full level).You will get upgrade at these levels and also unlocking new weapons.

Barrels don't explode, when they get too hot the brass gets sticky and the weapon jams every 2 rounds.

In real life the bayonet affects the harmonics of the barrel. Every time you fire the barrel will oscillate. Once the bayonet goes on it changes how the barrel oscillates, the round will behave differently and the flight path changes. Doesnt make it less accurate just the fact your aim down sights/point of aim will now be wrong/out.
It would be super awesome if they could replicate this in the game.

This is definitely a huge graphical downgrade from even RO2 (came out in 2011.) I have a very strong feeling that it's due to this being an Early build. Killing Floor 2, Red Orchestra 2, and Rising Storm all look great, even NOW. Let's hope they're working on the game mechanics first, and then will improve the shitty graphics that we're seeing at the moment. This honestly does look like a game from 2008, but it will prob change
I'd be more surprised if they didn't improve the graphics and mechanics. But more so than that I care about optimization. RO2 has way too many performance problems already (bearable problems, but they're still there).
Yeah for sure. One thing I loved about RO2 was the grainy, dark theme that the graphics had, almost like a world war 2 movie filter over it. Some of the indoor environments looked better than even BF1, which is really strange seeing as RO2 came out 5 years ago. This seems to have a totally different art style due to the lush nature of Vietnam; I kinda miss that old gritty art style tbh, but we'll see.
Slootyboot One of those cases where style and color scheme beats graphical quality. BF1 looks stunning, yet I prefer the general style of RO2.
Imagine RO2 with its grainy style and Battlefield-grade textures/scale/sound. Now that would be amazing.

I think the shift to sprint AND zoom is to cut down on those who would try to play the game like CSGO. You need to stop and preferably drop into your knee or prone before taking a shot.

I don't expect you go know this but they didn't have ak47s back then. The Start of the AKS Started in WW2 and it was the STG then it was the Chinese type 56... Then they went to AKS

type 56 was less expensive the the ak
And type 56 is basicaly AK (not akm) clone, so it doesn't matter that much. And ak don't have anything to do with STG, in fact AK was partially inspired by M1 rifle

I love my Type 56s-1 and I love it. This game really makes me wish I could have a Type 56s Spiker.

I'm worried about the team killing too since i'm bad at quick assessments. In RS1/RO2 I still have awkward situations where I run into an enemy but then stop to think "hmm wait is that a teammate" as he turns aims and blows my head off, or when my teammate turns the corner into an objective and I light his ass up with my best shot all day.

I hope Tactical View makes a return. I find that holding T to see my HUD has an oddly pleasant effect. Don't like the red blip on the screen when you're shot very much though. I much prefer the effect of RO2 (screen turns blurry, you slow down, etc).
Overall, looks quite nice so far! Signed up for the beta, hope I get a go before it's released. It reminds me A LOT of a large-scale Insurgency.

To disable the zoom when your are running, you have just to drop your weapon (it's a bug)
