    Totally right, there is a massive difference when you take 5, 10, 20 seconds from a km/mile pace.

    This makes me wanna train for a sub 5. I have a 5:41 PR but I know beating that will absolutely suck to train.

    Im 41 and if I run a sub 5 miler, best believe I'm bragging it up left and right.

      Never ran it as a race (other than when I was in high school), but last week when I did it near my house was 20:54. Just a normal athlete tho, not a runner. For mile, sub 6 and no plans on a sub 5 ha.

      6'3" here and when I was 185lbs and in high school I ran sub 5 every race in mile and my best was 4:42. ran sub 6 at 230lbs training for a half about 10 years ago. It is impressive but also, to their point, NOT if you are a runner. I know runners today who can run 20 miles a day and can't dream of beating a 7 min mile. its all relative to situation

    To think Eliud Kipchoge sustained a 4:34 for 26.2 miles...Can't even begin to imagine.

      I think it just goes to show out of all the events running is a human thing. Right from the Stone Age. We swim slow. We can’t lift that much, but everyone can run fast if they train it cause the make up of our bodies it’s already there

    Jordan Macnamara ran for the University of Oregon and was a stud. One of the best in the USA at that time.

    For me it's very situational I think a sub 5 min mile is more impressive- just because I suck at running- I've improved, but still a long way to go before being able to do that- a 500lbs back squat I live in the uk and typical gym weights at my local gym are kg which is what 245 give or take. I've been working out for 3 months in the gym, minus 4 weeks ish of injuries, missed not all in one, but to me a pr 1 rep max even if it's not "ass to the grass" reps, is easier to achieve in a shorter time frame- that said varying my Cardio has really helped improve my duration in running but before I was only able to get like 200m without stopping now 1km ish. The 500lbs sounds easier to me because I've improved more in a shorter time frame. Dependant on the individual tho... just a suitable breathing method or something I need to figure out now

    The 500 squat is more impressive for sub 200 pound people.

    College wrestling in the early 1970's: I was the only heavyweight my famous wrestling coach had who could run the three times a week, ten mile run under one hour. That is 10 consecutive sub six minute miles. And, at the same time I was benching 450 lbs.
    At the same time, at the end of practice, I would do 40 strict pull ups, no rocking.
    Was 6"0", weighed 235, 54 inch chest, 37.5 inch waist, in seam 32 in, thigh circumference 32 in.
    Now in college wrestling the heavyweight division is capped at 275 or 285 to exclude the fatty sumo wrestlers.
    in 1972 Chris Taylor took nationals and went to the olympics and got bronze medal. He was 6'5" and weighed 440 lbs.
    He sweated by just walking on to the mat. I never went far in nationals, I could only whoop them till about 280 lbs.
    No crossfit competition back then, sadly.

    A 5:20 mile on an indoor track is easier than a 5:20 mile on an outdoor track. That’s still impressive on an indoor track though.

    • @johnwlasuk5533
      @johnwlasuk5533 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How is it easier?

    • @TrueRahf
      @TrueRahf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnwlasuk5533 it isn't if it's a 200m track. Indoor will be slower since you make more turns, and tighter turns, making you lose more momentum in another direction than where you're going.
