I have had the honor and the pleasure of working and eating alongside Filipino people. They will feed you! Their party food is amazing. The first time I had pancit wanted to holler, it was so good!
Dude intentionally went from riches to rags, built something from scratch and did it exceptionally well, AND he's got him a ride-or-die wife? I completely understand why he can't stop smiling. Truly inspiring story.
Much like him I grew up with maids. Came to the US and learned to put in the work. Wouldnt do it another way. Now I can teach my kids the meaning of hard work. I am almost ashamed that I lived a life being spoon fed by another person other than my parents. I have to say though, I do miss my "nanay" (that is what I called our maid) a lot. She passed away some years ago and it still stings knowing she is gone.
So true, I grew up with maids and personal nanny. The best thing I gave back to my nanny when she became old I hired a maid specially for her because I loved her so much. May she RIP. Anyway I learned the hard way how to sauté but I’m so proud to say I’m good now in cooking different culinaires living here in France and not only Pinoy food. Oh I learned all households and my girls learned from too. Hard work but I succeeded.
Since the indigenous people of Taiwan are the same ethnicity as the Philippines, Taiwan and the Philippines should form an alliance and have more exchanges.
I don't know how it changed along the way overtime, but Taiwanese of course look Chinese.. while having the same ancestors in the Philippines, but the populace has evolved into Malayan features. So if you put a Taiwanese and a Filipino side by side, you will easily know who's who. 😊
Chef Maynard is way better though. Chef jp angelo is trying so hard to be edgy with his choice of ingredients and I find some unnecessary or not complimenting.
He's from the Calabarzon region, the manufacturing and industrial hub of the country where you find Nestlé, Samsung, Toyota, Texas Instruments, Mitsubishi, Unilever etc.
Looked at the Yelp reviews. Most of the negative reviews talked about being too overpriced for the quality of food it serves. Still hoping that this place prospers.
To those who gave negative reviews in yelp, all I can say is they're probably wanting to eat good and delicious food at Philippines prices (?). Cheapskates perhaps? The guy cooks the meat on a real grill fired with real wood! Common, that alone makes great food taste even better and shows devotion to great cooking. Yup, cheapskates and nothing but those negative reviewers. I hope his restaurant grows more in popularity. God bless him, his family, and his restaurant!
It may be worthwhile to consider that those who left negative reviews were sharing their own personal experiences at the restaurant, and labeling them as “cheapskates” might overlook their perspectives. If you cared to read further some of the chef’s responses to these reviews, they came across as somewhat cocky, which may not have resonated well with many customers. In this interview, he did mention having a privileged upbringing in the Philippines, which adds another layer to this discussion. I most certainly hope that the recent award Kuya Lord received encourages growth and humility, rather than contributing to an inflated sense of ego.
Filipino dish is not "underrated." It's UKNOWN. There's not enough proffesional establishments that serve it right, even in the Phillipines. But now that's gradually changing, and there's gonna be a lot of "I told you so's...."
Filipinos dont get your hope high we are pretty much the only culture who can go to a Italian restaurant Mexican koreans and chinese thai and other culture and be accepted the other cultures i mention would not go to other nationality restaurants yes Filipino food is delicious to us Filipinos some cultures have different palets and it is a hit or miss either they love it or hate it so dont get your Hope's high and I'm sugar coating the comment but our food is delicious it depends who cooks it but visiting the Philippine islands it very delicious back home very different out of this world delicious back home even the roatisory chicken amazing
Or let's stop getting worked up about the approval of other nationalities,we are our biggest critics already and that's understandable coz majority of the consumers of any products would also be their own race.
They act like theirs a scarcity of them in the US. I’m pretty sure it’s not hard to find their food out here. I can name some restaurants and recipes for u right now. Them and their food are quite abundant.
lol $30 is just a regular price range for lunch for inexpensive restaurant . Mid -to high end restaurants will run your money $50 +. McDonald’s alone will cost you $16 for a meal 🤮🤮
So, how much does rent cost nowadays in good LA? Do regular restaurants in LA cook their meat on a real grill fired up with real wood? Did you see that part when they showed him grilling meat? That's not regular flat grill you find in a "anywhere" regular restaurants. Plus, is the food mediocre? I don't think so. Go to McDonald's and buy food good for 2 people and tell me how much that'll cost you in LA. Might as well eat food cooked well, taste delicious, and with no artificial flavors and preservatives.
@@fidelisetverus again it would be worth a repeat if it was good food. its FORGETTABLE..... im sorry is he the only cook/chef that cooks with fire? if you think $26 for a bowl of food is a good value?anything over $20 is a splurge in melrose hill. Southern Tagalog (Timog Katagalugan) is Region IV A- CALABARZON. Tinuro po yan nung grade 5 or 6. Pede mo rin i-google kung ano ang Southern Tagalog region.
CALABARZON REGION that 5 provinces are also called Southern Tagalog. Sila ang defender ng Tagalog language sa south Luzon Island. Katulad ng Bulacan at Nueva Ecija sa North ng Metro Manila.
All recipes? You sure about that? Food evolves and even in Chinese culture, I'm sure each region has it's own twist of cooking the same dish. Philippines have been under Spaniards colonization, Americans, and a short time Japanese colonization because of WW2 (compared to the 2 previous countries mentioned). Filipinos made the best of these hardships. Chinese come to live in the Philippines on their own accord thus mixing their culinary culture with Philippines. Diversity is what makes Filipino food great and delicious!

I tried the slow-roasted pork belly, so good! 10/10 🙌
Congratulations KUYA❤
Love Filipino food. Looks great!!
Not only Filipinos are great singers, they are great cooks too!

Inspiring story ❤ thanks for sharing

Brook Silva-Braga who made "A Map for Saturday"? Love that travel movie!
Well done Kuya Lord!
Chef JP ANGLO has a restaurant called KOOYA in Dubai. What a coincidence! The more Pinoy restaurants the merrier! :)
Thank you Lord! ❤
Malinamnam yan, luto ni kuya! 😋
Looked at the Yelp reviews. Most of the negative reviews talked about being too overpriced for the quality of food it serves. Still hoping that this place prospers.
Its pricey, but for Filipino food, the quality is worth it. EVERYTHING is made from scratch.

What did you accomplish with this comment? 😂
all foods were not mainstream at one point. Sushi was not popular in the West at one point.
Deym, that's a word salad 😂
Is that the food critic at 6:21? lol
Nagbukas na pala ng resto sa LA si Chef JP Anglo.
Kamukha ni Chef Anglo 😂

Another fusion cuisine resto claiming to offer filipino dishes smh

Depends which part of the US. In areas of large Filipino population, they are not rare. Where I'm at (Idaho), Filipino restaurants barely exist.

Their Lechon is very salty. Not authentic Filipino cooking and full of short cuts.
who wrote the description? There's no such thing as 'Southern Tagalog'

Stolen and different from influence lmao. Read some Philippine history
Stolen? Chinese came here in the philippines, intermarrying locals, then they are yapping about their “recipes” being “stolen” hmm 😮
