Ah, the infamous backpack trail dug into the grass knocking everything down along it's route to "position." All we got to eat was earthworms and bugs along the way and a solar still plastic sheet to catch moisture from vegetation.
We made our own Ghillie suits....Sandbags ripped and torn, tied and stitched together with elastic loops for foliage...10 km infil to range area, set up a hide, and for 2 mins over the next 48 hours a target would appear somewhere on the range....if you missed it you failed...and had to start again.
We had to do the same except what we were hiding was a convoy of 6 wheel drive trucks with blurry headlights. Aircraft recon would do a run and later the photos would be enlarged and brought to a briefing, funny thing, every truck was spotted. So I said whats the point of it. UN forces painted all theirs white with UN in big letters we might do the same , I said a good color might be yellow. and we could put big letters that spell ENEMY.

Me uncle was a sniper in 3 para falklands war on mount longdon 11th and12th june 1982 he showed me a selection of photos of confirmed kills it was unreal
It’s seems slightly different to when I did it nearly 30 years ago. We didn’t use drag bags in those days, we’d dump our bergen and carry whatever we could cram into our sniper smocks. We also didn’t carry full webbing like they were, we only had a couple of webbing pouches on the sides so our profile was lower. Most of us also wore ghillie over trousers, which camo’d the left knee/shin and boots and we had little ghillie suits for our rifles.
I remember my mates social worker was 2 feet from him dressed up in full cammo with bushes rubber banded to his body and didn't see him hiding . He ended up 15+ years in the army 😂
Being a video about Brit snipers we see the excellent Accuracy International sniper rifle used here. In the US military the new BARRETT MRAD rifle is replacing the Remington Defense and XM 2010 rifles.
done my sharpshooter course at Warminster in the 90s but had to go to brecon for my sniper course , loved it the best course i ever done in service , has the school been moved to warminster permanently ??
Put the watch face on the underside of your wrist. The watch is your worst enemy as a sniper. To prevent the sun from reflecting on your optics, use black nylons to cover the lenses on all of your optics.
My uncle was a sniper and he said the worst part of training for him was staying completely still for hours possibly days if you needed the toilet you just had to do it right there you can’t move at all
That’s not the only one, there is also the small arms and tactics wing at Warminster, which serves the Army. Some of their instructors are also from the RM’s.
I love Salisbury Plain for the wildlife. Carrying my camera with my drab clothing on I must stick out like a sore thumb as bimble past these gentlemen completely oblivious to their presence.
Is camouflage as important with sites and weapons getting better and sniper targets being up to 3km away? I guess enemy locations can also be guarded by people with good optical equipment.
Interesting to see the differences and similarities in style, and training. Thanks. SSG. U.S. Army (Medically Retired) Infantry / Sniper / SOF Intel (SOT-A), multiple tours
Snipers typically have bounties in their heads. In Iraq they were giving out $50,000 for a sniper dead or alive. Protecting their identities is key when they are in country.
A lot of serving soldiers often have their faces obscured on film depending on where they serve or what duties they perform. Often in N.I. soldier's faces wouldn't be shown on tv for security and personal safety reasons.
They forgot to camouflaged theyr ass, I open field without grass, where is nothing to hide, the weak point are his backs. Desert places like with sand dunes
F*** ME! Their scopes aren't covered to keep reflection and dirt away. And their Ghillie suits aren't even como'd to the terrain. Great S*** but be real! These guy's could be seen from a sniper post from a half a mile away.
definitely not WWII snipers! This generation could have taught the WWII generation something about sniping and being clandestine. I wish they could have built a time machine to send some Royal Marines and some Royal snipers back in time the train the World War II British paratroopers and British Royal Marines and the British army. They would have kicked Hitler's ass! Dunkirk might not have ever happened

Where does the seminal educational film "How Not To Be Seen" fit into this?
clearly some snipers are so proficient that they can blur their own faces
😏
Only when u get good enough.
JS the canuck, 😂😁👍
It's a skill taught to them by the Queen herself.
I want to camouflage me face like a QR code that takes you to a rickroll.
When you see a backpack magically sliding across the grass while on guard duty

i would think its just lost and trying to get home 😂😂

Soldier: wait is that a sniper? Soldier 2: Nah mate its just a walking bush with a sniper rifle.
So there's a ghillie suit for the summer and one for winter.
What about formal occasions?
Why has this comment not blown up

Worst part is when the sheep arrive and start eating your cover
I can just imagine being caught and killed by the enemy because a sheep started eating off your head
@@jones6613 or a sneeze 😖
The sheep probably ate their faces too... that's why they don't show their faces to the public. Sheep made a mess!! lol

I know some old vets from nam and they hated the snakes when they needed to do some crawling and hiding on the ground. Or go in those tunnels
I didn't see you on camouflage training this morning Private Smith!!!
Thank you very much Sgt Major!!!!!!
I am amaze how they still hit the target while their faces are covered
I have always want to be a sniper too and I love those Camouflage sniper suits
It’s amazing how they learn to blur their faces out like that! Some good camo cream! 🤪

I am genuinely interested- Isn’t the day of the sniper over..??Aren’t snipers easy meat these days with heat-seeking drones..?? Please let me know
Thermal cloaks exist and ghillie snipers always keep a distance between their target,so snipers will still be efficient in their job.

Hi. Nice video bro)
What do they use to keep the grass on them? Does anyone know? My guess was like a rubber band maybe?
Yeah I think it's just rubber bands or maybe they just simply run the grass between the holes in their ghillie nets
A good tracker can easily detect this kind of camouflage.
Wait sorry but why do they not show their face is it because the enemy could know who they are then track them down? I don’t know
