I was lucky enough to see 'No No Nanette" on Broadway. When Ms. Keeler made her first entrance, she appeared at the top of a staircase. In a peach colored dress with a lovely bow ribbon at the neck. Looking positively breath taking. The audience burst into an incredible round of thunderous applause, and she just stood, beaming, before the show continued. It was an unforgettably magic moment. How gifted we felt to be in the theatre, and remembering this event, to comment about it..now, in 2018.

So wistfully jealous, Cynthia! 👏🏼 💗
The massive, magical gift those Great Depression Human, non-faking artists gave us … Ahhhh … well …
Even if we’ll never see their like again… at least we have them on film, for as long as we mutually last it out now together, we goofy, SuperConsumer humans …
      - Thanks ALWAYS, Ruby Keller, JAMES CAGNEY and your truly brilliant ilk!
Ya make the human species look really good, indeed.

Footlight Parade got me hooked when i was 23....still addicted to dancing Jimmy Cagny, Keeler, Dick Powell, but mostly Buzby Berkley and his unique talents.....the films of the 30's only get better with time.

I wholeheartedly agree, I always go back to these Busby films over and over 90 years after they were made. In general, I find the films from the 30s feel fresh and modern still today.

Hi Debby Really, it could be that she requested Tom Hatten not to bring up the subject of Al Jolson for some reason though that would have been very interesting. Iris from Manassas, VA.

It isn't John Garfield. It is sometimes written that John Garfield made his (uncredited) film debut in the "Shanghai Lil" routine in a (5/6ths of a second) shot.[9] The 2003 Turner Classic Movies documentary The John Garfield Story refutes this, as do several John Garfield biographies that give timelines where he is in New York and then on tour in Chicago with the revival of the play Counsellor-at-Law in 1933.[10][11]
