This band started in the late 70's & has been performing for over 40 years now. They mix all types of genres in their sound. They have had some great hits such as "Africa", "I'll Supply The Love", "Georgy Porgy", "99", "Make Believe", "Stranger In Town", "I'll Be Over You", "Without Your Love", "Stop Loving You", "Pamela" etc.
The original drummer for the band was legendary studio musician Jeff Porcaro (who died in '92). He created this hybrid shuffle beat , now known as the "Rosanna Shuffle". He took the original "Purdie Shuffle" used by fellow legend Bernard Purdie, and added Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham's "Fool In The Rain" shuffle, and threw in a pinch of Bo Diddley beat.
I saw them in March too! There my favorite group…outstanding musicians…love them! Every song of there’s is a gem! Steve Lukather (goes by Luke) is the best guitarist to me. He has a new album coming out in June too. Joseph Williams doing vocals is still sounding as good as ever. Those two are still performing as Toto. David Paich on piano/keys is the musical director now and will pop in on some shows here and there. Steve Porcaro on synthesizer is no longer performing with them. But even with there replacements, they still sound wonderful! 😃❤️
I have seen Toto quite a few times, but more recently...since 2006. They are still awesome and definitely worth checking out if they tour near you. I just saw them on the tour with Journey.
That dude that is singing the higher parts is Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams who wrote the themes and scores for nearly every blockbuster film in the 70’s and 80’s…..the Star Wars films, Jaws……and on and on. Music royalty!
some other classic songs to hear; Chicago (25 or 6 to 4), You make me smile, Doobie brothers (Takin' it to the streets, Long Train Coming), Kansas (Carry on my wayward son) Dire Straights (Sultans of Swing), Led Zeppelin tribute (Stairway to Heaven - Kennedy Center Honors), Stevie Ray Vaughn (Texas Flood), Toto (Hold the Line, Africa). So many classics to name.
Loved the reaction! He's getting those sounds out of the keyboard by leaning on the pitch bend. Like string bending on a guitar across the entire range.
Please listen to the studio version. These guys are great live, but not all the original lineup and the studio version has better vocals and no ambient noise.
Schroeder (Peanuts character) played the piano! Sadly the original drummer from Toto, the great Jeff Porcaro died in 1992. This song won grammy for Record of the Year in 1983 and is off the album "Toto IV” won 2 more Grammys the same year for Album of the Year and Producer of the Year. Give the entire album a listen, there is no way you haven’t heard “Africa” I’m sure of that!
Music was great when there was no engineering involved ☺ all real instruments and vocals - yet i prefer the studio version to this song, that's just me
Great version of this jam. RIP JEFFY P
That's the Rosanna shuffle
As you'll discover, Toto began as studio musicians.

I saw these guys in concert with Journey back in March. Both bands still have the "IT" factor. Excellent song to react to!

Steve Lukathur one of the best guitarist in the business.
Toto is deep, look into what other projects band members were into and prepare for your mind to be blown.

These dudes sound amazing for being 100 years old !
I was at one of their 40 tours concerts in Michigan
Shannon, David and Luke at the end. Wow!
Most recorded studio pros... been all over the place... Bruce Springsteen, MJ... rtc
This band is made up of studio musicians. Basically the guys that did Michael Jackson's Thriller album among many others.
Just found out that they played on the Thriller album for Michael Jackson
