  • Since there were quite a number of comments contesting my stance on Sett being a reasonably designed champion (at least compared to all the other contemporary ones), I decided to make a video explaining what I mean! :D

    When you talk about consistently widdling his health down, you forget Sett has passive regeneration based on missing health. While not much, Doran+Second Wind+Revitalize makes him a pain since he heals hp back much quicker, if you come out of a trade even or barely top, you lost the trade. Which is pretty unfair seeing how he is anti-burst, this makes him anti-burst and poke resiliant.

Jayce does well against Sett in my experience as you can poke him (which gets better after you get grievous wounds) consistently and then combo him quickly when he gets low. Also, try to fight him in a minion wave as his abilities will inadvertently push the wave, which means he will have a harder time escaping later and leaves himself up to jungle ganks.

    To answer, I don't think it's overloaded. His kit is very straightforward, has clear strengths and weaknesses and has a distinct window for reward and punishment.
    It's not that his numbers are problematic, it's how juggernaut items are designed well to mesh with his W, too well in fact.
    Building HP for survivability whilst getting rewarded with damage is what makes him look overpowered, and that wasn't a problem when mathematically correct Sett wasn't discovered yet.
    Sett didn't suddenly become broken overnight, infact his W's HP scaling wasn't touched and just the AD scaling and Base damage got moved.
    So, what happened? Maybe because of Gore drinker missing HP » Damage and its active that enables him to throw 4-6 max grit W's in a team fight, or the fact that you can build purely HP and go up to 6K HP easily to achieve damage that can one shot Squishies, or the fact that he is rewarded for building what he's supposed to build and playing how he's supposed to be played.
    We may never know, ask Kevin nextdoor if he knows.

    • @marcelohomenxmacaco2557
      @marcelohomenxmacaco2557 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the main problem with Sett is:
      Your only counterplay is not getting close to him, and trying to eat some chunks of his health away, BUT, Sett plays top, the single role where everybody is trying to fight melee. And if they aren't trying to fight melee, and instead, farm like you would do against a Darius, he can punish you because of his passive + Q whenever he pulls you close with his E, which can eat some chunks of your health very fast, and force you to constantly go base.
      So, lets say you want to fight Sett Ranged instead, as a Top Laner, and you go GP, Aatrox or maybe even Jayce. If you have ever played against this lane, you know that unless you do some perfect combo whenever Sett starts running towards your direction, you are kinda fckd, cause your melee damage is garbage compared to Sett. And if he doesn't get close to you, most of the time Sett dont give a damn, cause once his health is down the 50% line, it wont go down, cause of his life regen passive, and even if it does, hey, good luck killing a brawler with only skill, once it is down 30% you are either out of mana, or Sett is going base after farming 6 or 7 waves.
      So, lets say you aint fighting Sett, you are playing adc, and (probably) commited your entire build to being a Slow and Long Range Glass Canon (Except Ezreal which is just Long Range Canon) wich is allways playing for the 8 or 80, the highs or the lows, the all or nothing, you kill your enemy or you die trying, and then, this meat shield, after wining his lane whith little to no problem, runs at you with his 6.000 HP, slaps you twice, removing half of your health, and then ults your Sup on top of you, gain a 2.600 HP Shield and does about 1.400 damage.
      Basically, the main problem with Sett is: His kit is fun as hell to play as, because there isnt much to micro administrate, your health regens fast, you have no mana to manage, none of your skills have a gimmic, and getting killed actually kills the enemy team, wich makes a simple and fun champion to play, but in the other side, it feels as if this champion is almost unstopabble, at all moments in the game, and his slow nature is deciving cause if you played against one, you know how much of a diference Sett Q makes in a chase.

Sett’s abilities have so much applications, it’s crazy and you can never say that you master Sett because of that. Sure it’s not you can do crazy tricks like a Zed or Azir, but that doesn’t mean Sett can do cool outplays himself, it’s just more limited than those type of champs. Look at Autolykus, he’s a challenger 1 Sett and the things he pulls off with Sett is crazy, some known and some that require skill to pull off. Sett’s easy to learn but has a surprisingly high skill ceiling.

    There is just one thing that enrages me in Sett. Being tank is already suffering, so I wasn't really disgusted eating 1,5k true damage. The thing that seems absolutely disgusting to me is the fact that you can't interrupt W channel. There are shitton of different powerful but slow moves in this game but almost any of those can get interrupted. Sion is prime example. You can stun him during Q charge and it gets completely nullified. You can stun Rek Sai during her e tunnel dive and she unburrows on spot. There are CC immune skills in game, sure, but they are all purely defensive and none of them makes you also eat more than thousand true damage

    I feel that rather than overloaded, he's a straightforward champ, an "honest" champ if you will. His kit is simple to use and uncomplicated to learn, but his entire kit is so filled with additional skills and passives that you pretty much get stuff for free by doing a fraction of the work other straightforward/honest champions do. Sett (and pretty much all new champions) pretty much start out with a 3k gold item effect without the stats.

    He is still a fighter and does have counter play but he has to be one of the strongest fighters rn, especially after almost the entirety of the fighter class took a hit from stride breaker changes (now that I think about it stride breaker nerf indirectly buffed sett by making people start building goredrinker on him lol)

    I have to disagree with one thing here. You didn't mention once his heath Regen passive. This Regen passive is a ton of free sustain in lane that negates one of his only lane weaknesses which is poke. You poke him and with dorans+passive+revitalize he is going to heal it back in 5 seconds. So his early game is EXTREMELY frustrating to play against for 95% of champs toplane. Insane that he can 1 vs 1 champs like renekton, Darius, and even Pantheon and come out on top due to his haymaker +Regen combo.

    He's both, He has a simple kit but has just enough mechanics to give him no weaknesses making him overloaded
    He's pure melee meaning you're supposed to poke him down, but his regen prevents that from happening, so the other option is bursting him down but his w highly disencourages doing that too
    So then the idea is doing this awkward short bursty trades, disengage and immediately re-engage after his w loses a bit of grip, but he has just enough stick potential to force you to either disengage completely or all in, forcing you into a lose lose situation where he always has the advantage
    The only counters he has are the typical "unlimited kitting" top laners like Vayne, Quinn, kennen, etc, that counter pretty much everything in top already, and even then his ult means he still has a better shot fighting them than most juggernauts like Garen or Darius.

    • @hqhuy931
      @hqhuy931 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      he is quite okay in my opinion, his kit corresponds really well with his lore of being more dangerous the lower his health is, and a very gritty, punching champion in that sense. He is not too flashy, very straightforward while having a solid kit, having the weakness of his class- juggernauts: short range, high damage and survivability, yet very vulnerable in teamfights and useless if hit by ranged cc

    • @Justin73791

He can do 2000 burst true damage, while BURST mages, champions designed specifically to do burst, cant even do half of that number with magic damage, and yeah, they have to aim it too.
    You can say he is simple all you want, but you would be ignoring the fact that he does not actually have a weakness, he can go against any team comp, if theyre all burst he just soaks up the damage and then throws his w, if theyre tanks he soaks up the damage and then throws w while hard ccing them, if theyre immobile he just simply wins, if theyre mobile he throws R into the rest of the team and slows them all. If the only thing you can say about a melee champion when talking about their weaknesses is that they struggle with range, then maybe its because they are overloaded.

    This is actually pretty interesting. I don’t disagree with you completely. At face value sett is pretty simple and straightforward, especially compared to most of the “200 years” champions. But if you actually look at his kit I would definitely say he qualifies as overloaded when compared to other juggernauts. I’ll use your example of Darius.
    Darius:
    Passive- damaging attacks and abilities apply a stack of bleed, after applying 5 stacks to a single champion Darius gets a large amount of bonus AD, and now instantly applies 5 bleed stacks on future attacks. (Admittedly this is a somewhat overloaded passive)
    Q- delayed spin with a sweet spot, grants missing hp healing on champion or large monster sweet spot hit.
    W- auto attack reset which slows and deals bonus damage.
    E- grants passive % armor pen, active is a cone pull.
    R- dunks on a champion dealing increased damage per passive stack.
    Sett:
    Passive- Grants increased hp regen based on missing health. Basic attacks are a 1-2 punch, the second hit has more attack speed and bonus damage scaling with bonus AD.
    Q- grants a movement speed buff towards enemy champions, and the next two basic attacks deal bonus %hp damage.
    W- passive causes damage taken to be stored as grit, up to 50% max hp. Active consumes stored grit to grant a decaying shield, makes an attack in a large cone dealing damage based on grit, with true damage being dealt to enemies in the center sweet spot.
    E- pulls enemies on either side of him, stunning targets if an enemies was pulled on both sides.
    R- dashes to a target champion becoming unstoppable, picking them up, inflicting suppression and revealing them and slamming them at the destination dealing damage to all targets in an area based on the grabbed targets bonus hp as well as distance traveled and slowing all targets hit.
    The overloaded part of Sett’s kit is all of the more subtle parts, such as bonus movement speed, bonus damage and attack speed, loads of %hp damage and the like. Again as I said his kit is pretty simple and the overloaded aspect is much more subtle than that of Akshan or Samira, but overloaded all the same.

Even when he's behind, he does a lot of true damage, a tank buster that uses it against your team, and has CC to group enemies together. While other Juggernauts like Darius can snowball harder or be better skirmishers like Mordekaiser, Sett just always feels relevant when in a fight irrespective of the gold he has.

    Hes the boss, and the boss does damage ( even though he does to a lil bit much but a small nerf could fix that) , but playing him a few times will make it easy to learn his main weaknesses. I have grown to respect juggernauts unlike Assassin's and slayers since theire raidmachines which can solo a fight or be kited and destroyed. Theire the definition of easy to play harder to master sort of like enchanters. Theres no zed ult into combo that literally cannot be avoided and can oneshot a sion then dash out with no penalty or real risk...

    • @Aschuff22
      @Aschuff22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While you have a point, it is not to the extent where an even in gold zed can one shot an actual tank building armor, or any assassin for that matter. Plus cc will always be a squishy champs nightmare as a zed that jumps in on a tank has the risk of getting cc’d and even 1 second of root is enough to pop any squishy. I personally find juggernauts more frustrating because while they do both have some counter play, it just feels like a juggernaut like garen or sett just doesn’t have to work as hard to one shot you as almost any assassin. What I mean by this is that when you are a squishy champ you can get one shot by a garen pressing q e r in the matter of 2 seconds and the garen didn’t actually display any sort of skill. Same with sett, when you get e q then w and you just die with the sett barely even having to do much at all. At least when you get hopelessly one shot by an assassin you know they actually had to practice the combo or at the very least take time to learn it. That’s my take on that

  • @JoshTGW
    @JoshTGW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm fine with all the numbers for his kit and his kit in general, but not his ability to flash W. Sett's ability to flash W is essentially just like Galio's old ability to flash taunt. Flash taunt made Galio's taunt near impossible to avoid when he had flash up removing the key weakness of the ability. That weakness was due to Galio's low movement speed when channeling his taunt and led it to be kite-able. Sett's W is supposed to be the same case, kite and avoidable and yet flash W completely removes that weakness from the ability. Flash W allows Sett to near instantaneously relocate himself while channeling his W making it near-dam impossible to avoid guaranteeing the damage for Sett. Already it's pretty obvious that this isn't fair because this cone on his W does a lot of damage already and with the true damage, you might as well be dead. Just because Sett has flash shouldn't mean a player should get punished even after they've managed to successfully get away from Sett and out of his haymaker's range. Removing Sett's ability to do this should be a must.

    Sett is definitely my least favorite champion to fight in the game, purely because of how kit interacts with the enemy, not really anything to do with his numbers.
    His passive gives him a 1 2 punch which is fine, but the health restoration needs to be reworked. It's strong, way too strong, if only because Sett gets his in combat completely for free. Darius has to hit his q in order to heal back up, Zac and Mundo have to chase their blobs, and Garen gets the strongest regen, but only out of combat. This is further exacerbated by the shield w gives, buying Sett time to heal up, making interactions with him feel like a pointless endeavor.
    His w just needs some number tweaks, but the shield is a huge problem. I already talked about how it interacts with his passive, but again, it turns all interactions with him into a slog, even if you dodge the sweetspot, which definitely should come out a little slower compared to how fast it is now, he gains a shield for half his health where you just have to sit there and wait before you can deal damage to him. All the while he can still fight you in return.
    Lastly his ultimate just feels unfun to the enemy team since if Sett grabs your tank and slams them into your whole team, the only thing you can do is just flash out of it. Otherwise you have no choice but to take the damage. You can't really blame your tank for getting grabbed because they engaged, and if your tank gets hooked then it's just a free set up for his ult. There isn't any counterplay other than pray that Sett got his angle wrong or flash. He just always forces really miserable interactions for his enemies whatever he does.

He's supposed to be strong vs burst champions, see his w, but the second half of his passive also incidentally makes him strong vs poke champions, the group that you would expect to counter him the hardest in lane. @chegg7660 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Here's my issue with Sett, he has too much going for him. Sure the champ may be simple to pick up and play and you're right, he doesn't have 1 million dashes or stealth or untargettability or whatever, but he still does kind of betray one of the core weaknesses of juggernauts. His passive gives him UNGODLY and UNCONDITIONAL lane sustain, making the strategy of simply poking him out not entirely viable. In laning phase when he gets low, without any runes or items he's regenerating over 10 HP per second every second. Add that onto being manaless and we have a champion with near-infinite lane sustain, high durability, incredible brawling, strong AOE abilities, % max HP damage, a shield the size of a planet, and true damage. It feels like while not necessarily insurmountable, Sett has no obvious disadvantages.
    You can't burst him because of his beef, you can't fight him face to face because of his sustained damage and counterburst with W, and he's extremely hard to poke out due to his passive. This is what makes him fundamentally different to other juggernauts who have clear disadvantages to kiting and poke. Darius can heal a ton in combat but out of combat he has no healing at all, conversely Garen has great regen out of combat, but it goes away in combat. Sett gets the best of both worlds, and when you stack a Goredrinker on top of him, it just doesn't feel like there's ever a moment where he's vulnerable, he really can do it all.
    So that's my personal issue with the champ, he might not be as egregiously flashy as some of the other 200 years crew, but to me he doesn't feel like he really gets punished for doing things incorrectly, and as his opponent, it doesn't feel like there's an obvious way to deal with him in the same way that there is for a Garen or Darius.

    Copypaste time
    The thing that I don't really like about Sett isn't about his kit, his kit is fine, my problem with sett is that he's just too safe when he's behind, when he's ahead he's super oppressive and can kill you with just 2 autos and w, which is alright, but even when he's 0/8 he has so much aoe damage, cc and durability he can still be extremely useful in teamfights even when really behind.
    if darius is ahead he's a monster, doing 1v5 slam dunk pentas easily, and being extremely durable with spirit visage buffing both q healing and sterak shield, making him incredibly hard to deal with, but if he's behind he's just a meat shield with no cc outside of a 15 second pull, when trundle's ahead he can shred though towers and tanks in seconds, deal a third of a squishy champ's health with just q and drain tank for days, but if he's behing the best he can do is throw pillar to help peel for his adc a little, and since he's all single targeted he just has to hope he at least deals some damage to whoever's closest before he gets blown up in a second.
    Sett doesn't have that weakness because he just has to build tanky, ult the frontline into their team, double stun enemies with e, take a crap ton of damage and deal a lot more in return with w and that's it, even if he dies after that he already made a huge impact on the teamfight

    He is very overtuned. The problem isn’t his w, that’s fine in my opinion. The problem is his passive. His passive makes it so that you can’ t win lane against him unless you counter pick him. That’s just top lane, I know, but I still is an issue. You can’t beat him in melee as his passive makes him literally beat down everyone if they don’t run away, and his second passive makes it so that if you try to poke him down, he’ll just keep healing back up. Unless you’re playing a dedicated poke champion, you can’t beat him as if you go for a trade, even if you win the trade by a large margin, Sett will have won the trade as he’ll just heal all the damage back. So you can’t all in him because of his first passive, and you can’t poke him down because of his second. His issue isn’t just “w too stronk”, it’s that he’s a lane bully who bullies lane bullies while having a great late game. Great early, great mid, and great late. Nerfing his w scaling would hurt his late game, but that’s not really the issue.
