- The prion is all about timing.... So in the case of our dangly spring machine, if you think about timing as the x-axis of a sinusoidal function, then we can say that the amount of time to complete one cycle is defined as our period. In this case, I'd calculate the period is (9 * die / 4) years. Er, I mean (9 * PI / 4). Yeah. (Sorry, this video description got away from me.)

I think the prion should have more special abilities because it's actually a protein that digs holes into your brain, heart and lungs and we literally know nothing about it. The symptoms should be different too. Meh it's a video game who am I to judge
not to mention prions really don't spread like a pathogen, it has to do more with a persons genes

@@alexei4125 it can just happen from what I know. A prion is just a misfolded protein that folds other proteins when it comes in contact with them, making those proteins infectious as well. The first prion diseases probably happened as some freak accident in biological processes. Otherwise where would they have come from?
@@Only_Sleep yeah your correct, prions are highly deadly misfolded protein, that just misfolded other proteins into its own shape and so spreads in the body and so are almost impossible to cure, where i think not even the immune system can recognize it but it also can't spread easily at all, the only way it can is over bodily fluids like blood or by consuming a infected host, so as long your not drinking infected water like in the victorian times or eat corpses your probably fine.
What's odd is that this game treats prions like a virus or bacterium. In reality prions are incurable, not alive misfolded proteins that contain no form of nucleic acid. They work by encouraging other proteins to fold into the prion shape, and soon after they clump together to overwhelm brain tissue, killing neurons until death and leaving holes in the brain. These diseases have a 100% mortality rate. They don't spread like a virus or bacterium, but instead you contract them sporadically, from a genetic mutation, or from eating contaminated nervous system tissue (like eating contaminated steak or human brains). CDC should have brought up how prions are completely different from how this game looks at them.
They also don’t spread very often, with only ~1 in a million people catching it yearly in Australia

The special ability literally doesn't make sense. It seems to make no difference, scientist still pumping drug when it said harder task is literally harder but transfer to no difference in the progress of cure

I don't like the way Plague inc has the messages for Prions. They usually try to be fairly accurate for most diseases, but not for Prion for some reason
Prions have no DNA, so "Prion DNA detected" at the start of the game is just weird
Also, "Genetic mimic" doesn't work with Prions since there are no Genes in prions... Quite inaccurate

I believe it was left as "DNA" for the sake of not changing the name of major game mechanics, as that could probably throw people off, thinking it's an entirely new mechanic.
Also this game has a fucking vampire virus and has a news reel that says "Help, I'm trapped in the news bar!"
I don't think this particular part of the game refusing to deviate too much from the rest of it for the sake of realism isn't the end of the world.

Fun Fact: Real life prions can't be cured.
If the prion in this game couldn't be cured, it wouldn't have any challenge whatsoever, and that's not a good thing, because challenge in a game is necessary.
The cure mode was interesting, have it burn itself out by having the infected die isolated so they can't spread it.

Unless you can develop a form of cannibalism where others are compelled to eat the brains of infected people, it can't spread either. Having it spread via frickin' mosquitoes is stupid.
There's more to it than that, Prions in this game are very misrepresented. For one, they don't spread like other pathogens, like bacteria, Viruses etc. You can't catch them through a sneeze or a cough, or anything like that. And 2. they don't contain DNA, they're just proteins, misfolded proteins that misfold other healthy proteins, but that's all they are. I never liked this disease type, cause if you know how it works, it completely destroys the immersion.
@@kjullthedemonPeople say the Mad Cow disease scenario is more realistic, but something else that could work is a type of virus that can't do regular symptoms but instead tries getting into the brain to fold proteins into prions as well as having itself duplicate into other people, so the prions are made by the virus but the virus cannot kill itself, but as long as even 1 folded protein exists in every person you can win, but you have to make sure this virus makes everyone develop at least 1 prion through the virus so you can winl

Mega brutal really is a game changer, I always try to do them by myself but since the plagues have been getting nerfed and nerfed since 2016 I´ve had to resort to you videos for mega brutal for fungus, parasyte and prion so far.
I had to do it on phone with no genes in 1x speed cause I am not paying that much for a game.

I do not remember for sure if I could not because they had no adds for my country or the option did not exist to begin with, however.

@@maciejfedak1258 you do, in order to use them you must watch adds, before that there was no way of using them. I always had mine unlocked, all asides for Necroa Virus. Which back in the day you were not able to play either.

I know that this video is almost 3 years old but I just wanted to say that I followed this video Exactly, except I opted to get more DNA from blue bubbled instead of red. Making that one change gave me 4 stars.
Maybe the Prions should’ve been the combined gameplay of Fungus and Parasite with probably a little Bio Weapon in it. There are no added genes (like Genetic Mimic) nor a cure bar. While this type of plague cannot be cured, but you would not get much DNA by infecting like Parasite, and it’s hard to transmit like Fungus, which would mean it would be hard to infect countries. There’s also the fact that people can still close boarders, seaports, and airports, which can either count as a huge detriment or a total loss, as the only thing you could do now is to kill everyone else.
That would be a neat disease type
Uve thought of a virus that creates prions but cannot make any other symptoms, though it's lethality is replaced by its ability to make prions, and you have to make sure everyone has the virus long enough to have 1 prion because if a single person survives without the virus turning one of thier healthy proteins into a prion then you lose.

Actually, might be a lil late, but, the way you describe the Prion working is not how it actually works, it doesn't take a longer time for the symptoms and such to kick in, its just reduced.
For example, if you pick up Total Organ Failure as Prion it wont kill as fast as other diseases, the Prion is more about fighting the cure, taking it slow! I beat it with 5 stars on mega brutal using the gene that gives you DNA from blue bubbles by giving it a small amount of severity on the beggining and having all of the genetic hardening aqcuired, the amount of time people take on the cure makes it so alot of blue bubbles pop up and they give a ridiculous amount of DNA, about 5/6 per bubble
Man each of your recordings seems to have the most luck possible. I got detected in Saudi Arabia at 20% of the country infected with no symptoms. Thankfully I pulled it off on Mega Brutal to win anyways.

modified this a bit by racing the symptoms as soon as the plague was discovered, first to necrosis then to paralysis, anything else was just genetic hardening/shuffle and getting to as many deadly symptoms as possible

Prions are terrifying
And rightfully so. They have a 100% mortality rate if you get one, there is no cure or way to prevent them, and they can develop for seemingly no reason (as is the case with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease)
The only silver lining is that prion cases average around 1 per million per year, so they are extremely rare. If they were common, the human race would most likely be wiped out within a year.

Can't beat this on brutal. My lethal symptoms take too long and the cure goes up much faster than in your video. It will be the final one to defeat on brutal for me it is very hard I don't get it.

This is a really good strategy, but it didn’t work for me on the first try, and in the second I decided to mix it with your parasite strat of starting in the UK and not evolving the things that help with wealthy countries until I was discovered.
I like to make what I think of as the Last of Us plague especially with fungus. Cysts access tumors all the way to necrosis then I go insomnia up to insanity on the left side lol

I just won in brutal prion at the first time, but it was pure luck that it evolved coma like at 98% of the cure progress and it delayed it, so it gave me enough time to put the countries in anarchy and win

Prion is in my opinion much harder than all other disease types. Bio Weapon can be hard but prion is extremely difficult compared to all other types. Just an opinion

I got 4 stars 40k points. Yeah, I got lots of combos like anemia plus insomnia which further slows cure. Skin lesions and cysts or hemophilia which causes bits of lethality. And I had catalytic switch which is just awesome

I was SO close to beating this first try. More than 7 billion were dead, less than 15 million were alive, and then the cure progress jumped from 97 to 100 percent, and I lost. IT SAID IT WOULD TAKE A YEAR TO COMPLETE😭😭😭
