    Look at the wear on those eyelets! I bet that hammock could tell many tales of it's service life; the missions, counties, battles, storms etc. Never change them!

    I`ve been trying for years to find out how these were made and your instructions pop up ,Thank you . I`ve now shared your instructions on various veteran sites as a lot of them are self sufficient and this adds to the knowledge base . The only thing missing is a quick guide to dimensions of material ,spacing of eyelets on the canvas and maybe if possible ,the quality grade of canvas available today. . Apart from that ,you have done an excellent presentation with clear concise instructions and views .

      O hope to make a video before the end of summer on the hammock canvas construction. The finished dimensions of the canvas are 39" wide and 80"long. The eyelets are evenly spaced.

Abrazo enorme. Te saludo desde la República Argentina.

    Awesome video, along with the clew video.
    I think quick release nature of the individual piece of rope secure with larks foots knots.I think that this was to enable the hammock to be used to wrap a deceased sailor in. They did this in Nelson’s time in the Royal Navy.

    This is a fantastic video. A fun project. I am curious about the dimentions of the WWII canvas hammock. The finished dimentions...the 'fold over' for the grommetts...the fold over on each side... the size of the grommets. I would like to reproduce your grandfather's dimentions as close as possible. Thank you for your jig video for building the clew, thank you for the clew construction video, and thank you for this video that ties them together. This is fantastic. ☺

    Thank you for posting these videos. All of my uncles were in the Navy but during the Viet Nam war. My Grandfathers were both in WWII in the Army. I would like to know what the weight limit would be on this. I feel that this is an art that is slowly going away. But with Paracording coming into popularity maybe it will come back.

    Hi Nate, a squirrel decided to use the clew as a chew toy. Any advice appreciated. These 2 videos r done very well, you make it look so easy. It doesn't have grommets, it has an area similar to seam you'd feed elastic thru w holes for clew ends. Can i use the the rope like u did but feed it thru the seam & wrap the ends around it similar to what u did? Any ideas? I have couple pics but YT won't let me put them in comments.

    Hello, great guide :), I have a question, what dimensions does the material have? I want to make the same chamak, but I would like to make it for 2 people. I am going to hang it between wooden beams in the room, the distance of the beams is 3.6m, the beams are at a height of 2m. I wonder what length I will need material. I think the hammock will hang down a meter. What is the length of the cord from the metal ring up to the attachment in the material?

    • @natelarge
      @natelarge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The length of the cord when made into a clew using my jig is 20 1/2" (~52cm) a few more inches will be added for the ring that it is attached to.

    Liked and Subscribed, are there any videos out there about sleeping in a navy hammock? Not seeing any on a Utube search... how about a review on how to set up and how it sleeps, considering a similar hammock for my small boat, maximum hang height of 3ft...

    • @MorgenPeschke
      @MorgenPeschke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have one of these, but I do have one that's a very similar style, and the reason there aren't many videos about sleeping in them is probably because they're really, really easy to sleep in.
      I don't think I've ever fallen out of mine, and it's really comfortable.

    Hello Nate. Greetings from Australia. Is there any chance of seeing this Hammock hanging from a tree or a frame please? I'm interested to see if it "cocoons" the occupant or not,. Considering that it doesn't have a "spreader beam" at each end of the clew. Or is it just the case that the design of the clew stops this from happening? Thank you in advance!

    • @natelarge
      @natelarge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It defiantly has a cocoon feel, I believe this is to keep a user from falling out while asleep on a rocking ship.

  • @Linuxnoob757
    @Linuxnoob757 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You may want to look into purchasing a 1940 Navy Blue Jacket Manual. That should have information on the Hammocks in it. Fair winds, and following seas to your Grand Father, from one sailor to another.

      As you may know, canvas is weighed in ounces per square yard and if I recall correctly the canvas I used was in the 10 to 12 oz. range. In the vid your bag looked a bit heavier. Most of the canvas shops will have sample pieces on the counter for comparison. That's what I did. Good luck and keep us posted!

    Hi! I remade this hammock this week, but when I made my brother test it out (he’s 15kg lighter haha) the eyelets stretched out. Like the hole got bigger. How can I prevent this? And maybe fix it.

    • @natelarge
      @natelarge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure. What weight canvas did you use? My first assumption is that it is an issue with canvas material being too thin or pliable. If you want to send me photo/video DM my IG account I can take a look. @_natelarge

      That’d be awesome. It doesn’t have to be so strong it can hold a person of 90kg hahaha just durable so it lasts longer than my current one, which has started ripping a bit. It’s not for hammocks at alllll
