It's amazing how much emotion a song can have when you start with great voices, and don't autotune/pitch correct them. These old Simon and Garfunkle songs are all wonderful.
I can't find better song lyrics... anywhere. To me, this song is about being feeling like a representative of yourself and not feeling authentic. It's a deeply painful feeling for some who are quite successful.
A beautiful song art is a beautiful singer but Paul's version in my humble opinion is the best either way still a beautiful tune .still stands the time of tide
One of Paul's finest compositions. His finger picking in the outro is world class! Might not be that difficult technically but his feel and dynamic control is sublime
I hear the drizzle on the way Like a memory it falls Soft and warm continuing Tapping on my roof and walls And from the shelter of my mind Through the window of my eyes I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets To England where my heart lies My mind's distracted and confused My thoughts are many miles away They lie with you in your sleep And kiss you when you start your day And this song I was writing is left undone I don't know why I spend my time Writing songs I can't believe With words that tear and strain to rhyme And so you see I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you And as I watch the drops of rain Weave their weary paths and die I know that I am like the rain There but for the grace of you go I
Art sings very well, but it's Paul's love song to Katty Chitti, his pretty first love in England, so I really feel my heart and soul touching when Paul and only Paul sings it.
When I started my career many years ago, I worked with a manager that, over drinks one day, told us the story of how as the student responsible for booking the band for his senior class graduation party, found this up and coming duo they could afford, and booked them. How amazing in all those decades since, to have been the one that secured Simon and Garfunkel for your senior prom.
I still do the same and have for each of our four. Sang it to my youngest tonight and she always asks for “the drizzle of the rain”. I said the song was actually called Kathy’s Song and she asked why and I looked it up and we watched this together for a little while. And then she flattered me asking me to sing it instead. No I’m no Garfunkel but she’s used to me.

My Dad died five days ago. He lived a very full life, and he'd been in almost constant pain for eight years, so it wasn't hard to see him go. I've been sad about it all, but somehow listening to this finally brought the tears to my eyes, for no direct reason I can figure out. Thanks for the healing, Paul and Art.
I hope after 4 years, Kathy's song still provides some closure about your Dad and peace for you. I agreed; this song really hits on quite a few theme's in life.
Saw them at the Royal Albert Hall in 1967/8.This was the only song Paul sang alone. Always thought it was too personal to him to allow Art to sing it. Still much prefer PS version
Paul Simon is a musical genius & Arts voice is angelic .. an union of two magicians that can happen only once in a lifetime.. i grew up listening to these songs, learnt the guitar to play these songs and probably die happy listening to them thank you for so many amazing moments paul and art!
A fabulous version of one of Paul's finest songs, but I think Art may have suffered a memory lapse here. When Paul came to England in the early 60's, he came alone - they had split up and Art stayed in the US to attend college. Yes, Paul did tour the small folk clubs at the time and maybe did a bit of busking, but Art never accompanied him. It was only when The Sound Of Silence was re-recorded with a heavy rhythm boost and shot up the charts that Paul returned to the States, joined up again with Art, and rushed out an album - The Sounds Of Silence - to capitalise on the success of the single. Still, as the 1st Rule Of Journalism teaches us: never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
You are absolutely right. Art also said in one interview that he wrote Homeward Bound together with Paul at Widnes Station. Interestingly Paul does not even remember where exactly he wrote it. But it was when he was on his solo „poet and a one-man-band tour“, definitely without Art who did not write at all.
My twin sister and I grew up doing this song on guitars...we are nearly 50 years old now and we last sang it together on November 26 2013 in my Dad's Hospice room. I was tired after 2 days there with him and my sister insisted we sing it...I agreed and with my mother holding his hand he passed away a few minutes after the last note. I haven't sung it since nor can I hear it without crying and thinking of the greatest Dad ever...
Art garfunkel may be regarded as the main vocal talent of the duo but paul's writing is just stunning easily stands along side the greats such as dylan .
@@crust6120 A user blog? Not exactly the most credible way to substantiate your claim. He still sounds good here, but there is a difference. Please stop trolling with inane comments and bogus claims and just enjoy the damn music!
Wonder why Art tells the story of the song in such a wrong way. It was only Paul who had been living in England for a year. Art was doing his master in mathematics at that time and did not join him except for some short visits he made. It was Paul who travelled around the country and sang in different folk clubs. His girlfriend Kathy could not join him because she had to stay with her family. At that time Paul wrote Homeward Bound because he missed her so much when he was touring. When living in England Paul never was busking, not alone and not with Kathy (and not with Art) as he had been paid well for the folk club sessions. Paul had been busking for a short time in Paris when he first arrived in Europe, before he went to England. But that was without Art. Later when Paul was back in NY he wrote this beautiful song for his Kathy (not for Art‘s wife). It was first recorded on the Paul Simon Songbook in 1965. Seems that Art wanted the audience to believe that he had been some part of the story, which he definitely was not. Kathy‘s Song is one of Paul’s most personal songs. The S&G version had been recorded only with his voice and also in the S&G live performances he was the one who usually sang it. Wonder why he let Art perform it here because Paul’s version is really beautiful.
