Hey kids! Here's a quick tip. Do you have a bottle you'd like to reuse but you can't get that sticky residue gunk off it? This helpful tip shares how to easily get that off.
I have also heard that if you don't get a label wet, you can put really really hot water in the container, let it sit a short while and then you can start peeling it and it generally will peel without leaving residue. I haven't really tried this yet. I have soaked in hot soapy water and had pretty good success depending on what kind of glue was used. I do like to use oil of some sort when needed but never thought to add baking soda. Will have to give that a try! :)
On certain surfaces solvents etc are not always suitable! So often the best method is using sellotape - push it onto the unwanted sticky residue; pull it off. And again.. Do it as many times as necessary. Little by little all is removed.. Very satisfying!
Thanks for the tip! It didn't work the first time. And after leaving the olive oil and baking soda on for a half hour the second time, it finally came off when I used my finger nail. So it did work in the end. I'm glad I didn't have to use the stinky, chemical, goo gone stuff!
I make my own Goo Gone . It really works. It also removes the marker writings from my storage tubs. While packing things in tubs, I label whats in them. Then, when I empty them, I rub the goo gone on, and the tubs are ready for something else.
The temperature and humidity were so high last week,I was able to easily remove adhesive. Now I’m making a list of things that need attention the next time the heat spikes.
Thanks for the tip, it worked great. Of course you could use harsh chemicals like acetone (nail polish remover) or WD-40, but isn’t the whole idea to avoid that?
Tried this method and so many others. All function, but too messy and time consuming. WD 40 and then just clean off with dish soap ad water. Sparkels like new.
The car repair shop put a sticky label on my windscreen which left a sticky residue. I'm trying to find out which one of these ideas would be the best to use. So far, I think I'm going to give alcohol, nail polish remover or hand sanitizer a try.
I have used alcohol-based hand sanitizer, which was OK but slow. Oil with baking soda worked, but was horribly messy. My FAVORITE label remover is lighter fluid. No one in my family has ever smoked tobacco, but we all have a can of lighter fluid.
I’ll try this next time I’m left with sticky residue. My dad likes to heat up the labels with a heat gun or hairdryer or oven and then peel them off cleanly. I always like to gamble and see if I can peel it without prepping 😆
I am thinking it will depend on the type of adhesive, and it is impossible to know what adhesive used. I suspect the ultimate answer, is to have a series of methods (that will not damage the surface) and try one after the other. I know that decades ago, I discovered that eucalyptus oil, usually good, did not work on a polystyrene CD cover, it left a permanent smear. Removing from glass objects is generally much easier.
Nail polish remover works faster on glass. And groene zeep also works, I think it’s soft soap in English. Savon de Marseille probably also works, because it has almost the same ingredients as groene zeep.
I take a hair dryer and blow it on the label for a minute. Then it peels off easily. Just be careful not to burn your fingers because it can get extremely hot if you do it for too long.
@@GladieGivesAdvice No problem. It works by melting the glue and making it easy to peel off. It's useful for things you can't wash, for example, removing stickers from book covers. It works on jars too, but it isn't 100% successful on them.
Funny, me a 50 plus seeing a young women wearing a old ladies wig. I'm mid 50s and ive still brown hair so I guess this young lady is plus😂😅 Love the character though.
Even easier....heat the label with your hairdryer for a minute, maybe two. Then you can peel it off effordless and with hardly any residue. Any left residue is easy to remove with hot water, dish soap and a scouring pad.
Use lighter fluid and a paper towel, Comes of fast no waiting for 1/2 hour, then rinse in sink with warn water and dish soap and dry with clean paper towel........Done !
Not too bad of a tip, but way too messy. Scratch of the paper with a sharp blade, remove the sticky residue with a few drops of lighter fluid dripped onto an old rag and scrub off. Requires a lot less cleaning afterwards.
White spirit on a scrap bit of tissue is the OPTIMUM ! ( BEST ) way to remove this HORRID sticky gunge ... but please do it outside ( to avoid annoying your cat ? ) ... ( fully ! tried - n - tested ) ....... DAVE™🛑
Absolute waste of time and money. Can't believe people appreciate this. A bit of nail polish remover is simpler and quicker...and more cost effective. Extra virgin olive oil! Crazy.
Why do they always recommend the extra virgin olive oil in similar videos? Very often I was laughing out loud…. If the oil can remove it then why not use just baby oil?
“ Goo Gone “ is my go to product.
Yup! Works well and is a lot less messy and fussy
GOO-GONE. Is the way to go. Fast and easy.
Absolutely the best!
By the time you messed about with your way ,I’ve spayed on WD40 ,gone out for lunch returned home and there you are still messing around 🇬🇧👎🏽

Handy tip! I've done so much damage to sponges and scrubbing brushes trying to get rid of that residue!

That's the way I do it. Works really well.
This is a nice easy method to know and no chemical smell.

Works for glass, but do not try it on polystyrene (like CD covers). I did that once, horrible permanent smear to the case.
The temperature and humidity were so high last week,I was able to easily remove adhesive. Now I’m making a list of things that need attention the next time the heat spikes.
Also, a little bit of baking soda rubbed with a finger will easily remove those best by dates printed on glass.

That wig, those pearls, the daisy brooch……this woman is a fashion icon!
You’re my new favorite kiddo!
@@GladieGivesAdvice Just missing the red nose.

I use rubbing alcohol, but I'll remember your tip for the 'just in case' scenario. 👍
Have tried Purell hand sanitizer, and it works like a charm! 😊
It’s basically gelled alcohol, so maybe regular alcohol might work?

Pusser’s Navy Strength Rum bottle? Good stuff!
It's super great to read all the other methods in your comments! ❤
Acetone works well and does the job faster.
I don’t have acetone in my house, but always have a little oil and baking soda. This is just how I do it, but it doesn’t mean it’s the only way!
If you’re cleaning a plastic container acetone will often destroy it.
And it's carcinogenic!
@@stephenrowland5436 Ultra-processed 'foods' are carcinogenic. Seed oils are carcinogenic.
Nail polish remover
WD40 removes it like magic.
White spirit works better. Just put some on a cloth and rub. It's not oily like WD40.
Cover the label with a mineral spirits saturated rag. In ten minutes The label and the glue wipes right off.
Acetone fingernail polish remover as well
And in most cases, at least in my country, just soaking in warm water.
Don’t like using petroleum distillates.
You have a baking pantry? How much baking do you do? Is that separate from your regular pantry?
I have used alcohol-based hand sanitizer, which was OK but slow. Oil with baking soda worked, but was horribly messy. My FAVORITE label remover is lighter fluid. No one in my family has ever smoked tobacco, but we all have a can of lighter fluid.
I always have Ronsonol on hand. I love that yellow bottle.
Razor edge glass scraper for the bulk followed by citrus solvent. Paint thinner works also but you need gloves then.
I’ll try this next time I’m left with sticky residue. My dad likes to heat up the labels with a heat gun or hairdryer or oven and then peel them off cleanly. I always like to gamble and see if I can peel it without prepping 😆
If it's alcohol-based (it usually is), just use rubbing alcohol on it. The sticky comes right off
Have been using coconut oil for a good while, but without the baking soda. I'll give the addition of that a go next time!
Looks like a great method! I pour boiling water on my labels, or soak in hot water- then use a razor scraper.
Get the companies to not use such nasty sticky labels in the first place.
I wish I had that power, kiddo!
I own the exact same aluminum Containers that are on your counter!
Eucalyptus Oil works wonders too.
I just bought eucalyptus and mint biodegradeable soap, will give that a try, TY.

I'm way more likely to have baking soda & oil hanging around than groene zeep!
@@jvallas I use green soap to clean my house, because it cleans everything. I don’t use baking soda that often. It’s very expensive here.
Lighter fluid works perfectly and very quickly. No fire!!!!! Just fluid.
I use lighter fluid too.
Me too, or if you want to pay 20× the price for the exact same product with a fancy label buy, Clean Art.
A delicious thing came out of that bottle. That’s a Pusser’s rum bottle.
You know your rum! 😋
Do you have any advice for removing sticky price labels from books?
Great question! I think that might be a follow up quick tip video. 🤔
Love gladie...my hero.
A major pet peeve hopefully solved. I like my glass bottles.
I use sunscreen spray on it and it gets out sticky and sharpie too
Lighter fluid. It's a for sure, probably because it's flammable.
I'm probably ignorant, but what's wrong with Goof Off & Goo Gone?
Lemon essential oil works super fast. 🍋
I used a steel scourer and hot soapy water.
I just rub it on my greasy nose, then scratch it off.😂😂😂
Use your highland jig to remove sticky stuff
Cellulose thinners and a paper towel work quickly and efficiently for me.
Steel wool works too.
100% organic%,love it.
what about the price tag on the inside heel of a new shoe? especially dress sandals, suede sandals, flip flops etc. - i hate that!
Will this work on plastic containers? thanks
It will! Plus it doesn’t damage the surface like acetone or other chemicals can.
I take a hair dryer and blow it on the label for a minute. Then it peels off easily. Just be careful not to burn your fingers because it can get extremely hot if you do it for too long.
I’m thinking about doing a follow up and try out these suggestions. Thanks for the tip!

Do you have an orange based product called De-Solv-It in your country? Works like magic without the chemical smell of WD40.
Do the same thing with Goo Gone; takes a ot 90 seconds plus another 20 for a light wash and rinse.
Use any kind of oil & and use a green scrub pad. You're done in less than 3 minutes. Been doing this for years.
Angle Grinder, course disce, or hot air gun.
SOS pads and baking soda is what I use, gets it right off every time 😅😅
Good to know! Subscribing!
White Spirits is good also.

Using a hairdryer to heat the label and for the most part comes right off
Wow! I use Paint Thinners or MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone)

THANK YOU!
WD-40, when you're serious about 'label-sticky'.🎉
Alternatively just put a little white spirit on a piece of clothe and rub it with that, gone in seconds.
Soak it in cold water & dish soap submerged for a couple of hours take an old credit card and scrape
Mama’s Place all over again!😅
😂
I use mineral spirits. Abracadabra it’s gone , wet the paper towel ,then throw it away.👍😇🇺🇸
WD-40, paper towel, then wash.
funny ive been using vegetable oil for years. put it on, leave overnight, next day wash it off eazy peazy and a little bit sleazy.

Why do you need food-safe oil?
If my plan is to use this container to store something I’ll be consuming, I prefer to use a food safe oil on it.
Will it remove silly wigs 😂
Goo Gone works, but wash your hands after.
Getting plastic labels off detergent bottles. is really hard
Doom Fly spray. Mineral thinners. WD40.
Extra virgin olive oil? It would be cheaper to hire in a team of professional cleaners to remove the gunk for you.

Use sponge or cloth, who knows what chemicals are in that glue.
Ahhhh, I just use Goo Gone or lighter fluid. And you don't have to wait 30 minutes.
thinners eats label glue instantly.
Spray on furniture polish.
I used acetone
Homesense and winners is the worst where they put these labels…

I use peanut butter.

Or use WD-40, done in seconds.

Peanut Butter and let it sit for 10 mins or so. Nothing else needed.
