Honestly I really like The Run's idea. It's basically a Cannon Ball Run, what's not to like about that? It fits the style of the overall NFS series in general... excluding those dumb quick time events and the weird "enemy encounters".
one of the best nfs ... it's a shame that it's underestimated, but the idea of crossing the country with those endless freeways with gigantic mountains in the background ... and all kinds of landscapes, with those graphics .., I would have liked a "real" scale (of the whole journey), as much as possible without loading screens, (or at least only in a service station to recharge gasoline etc) but the idea of the game itself is excellent, (beyond its physical or graphics, or gameplay etc), a pity that a second title has not come out
It's a crazy, uneconomic idea. Too much freedom affects the quality of development. This linear game has only three hours (with a home made sountrack). Most Wanted has twenty hours in a single city (+ commercial metal-rock sountrack and live actors in cut scenes).
yeah it had promise with a limited storyline that should either be none at all or go all the way not part of a story and crap mechanics, i had 2 wheels go off the road and was reset, it was like Burnout with all the racers trying to wreck each other and the cops and mafia ONLY pursue the player...i mise my HP2 mechanic where id purpose drop back to 2nd just to watch the cops chase the guy ahead of me, and ive never been so bored with with a "lets start the race with the player already doing a 120mph" and your the whole country was like nothing but "challenges" sections with a limited track and the only option was to be 1st in every challenge where as id love to hang back and let everyone group together and pass them in 1 big cluster.
Black box got the can from ea. So unfortunately they won't make a remake but maybe just a reimagination of the same concept.....my favorite part was the challenges you could do after the main story
I just wanna point out this one thing. In San Francisco, one of the cops says he’s chasing an “orange Zonda.” So people started this race with supercars. Jack did not hit 200 until he was on the East Coast. Those guys deserve to lose lmao 😂😂
Also I feel like the color of the Zonda was probably a reference to the game released a year before The Run; NFS Hot Pursuit because one of the cover cars and the trailer cars shows an orange Zonda
im just happy i did a complete run without wiping out once. i wont get that lucky again. that route 66 race with the SLS Boss half way through the game was utter murder. i should have filmed it lol
I miss this game. It had what all the other NFS games lack - a proper and interesting setting. Exploring real life locations is so much more interesting than some repetitive made-up setting.
The sound in this game was next level for ea not alone everything else. One of the best nfs ever put together. Not due for a remake, perhaps a run sequel on the next gen consoles.
when i first played it in 2012, it was so damn hard for me to complete the game that it took months to finish it. me and my brother utterly LOVED the run. that shot of adrenaline we got at the final few miles was nuts, and we screamed our lungs out when we won the final race xD

I played this last night online servers for PS3 are still up it was amazing ! people are still playing wow! I bought my copy for $8.00 on ebay ,so glad I have it again NFS need to make a sequel the car selection and modded versions of each are just the best :)
I wonder if that's still the case? I'm now wondering about powering up my PS3 to find out. In my mid 30s, around 2011 I think it was, this was my first time playing online. It was the game I got a headset for. Not only was the racing great, but I got to know quite a few players, from Europe and the US. I'd play with them often, chat. It was a great community. And playing so much, I think I actually got pretty decent too. Could more than hold my own online. That felt great too. So I love this video because it just reminds me of those times.

I've been playing NFS since need for speed hot pursuit on playstation 1 and honestly the driving physics in the run is just out of this world. Hands down the best driving experience you can get out of the whole series. Yes the story, customization, and content are lacking compared to other titles but the driving experience makes up for all of that (almost). I wish they'd remake some of the other titles using the runs driving experience. Oh and one more thing, driving each car in the run genuinely feels unique and different from other cars unlike many other racing games where the difference between cars is just the shape and speed.
The best part about this game was the change of scenery as u went from west to east coast and a no headache experience of not having to upgrade ur car.... U defeat a boss and the car got auto upgraded! The player just had to concentrate on fine racing thats all.....
I love this game. But the only thing I found odd/bizarre/whatever is that even after you defeat a boss and eliminate then from the run they still show up later in the race
i think there were supposed to be more bosses later on in the game. black box probably didn't have enough time so they reused the bosses in an effort to save them more time so that they could publish the game early.
Only rival that comes back is that chick in the yellow 370. And she wasn't eliminated. Only the first 150 in Vegas got to continue. She was 150th. Jack was 149th.
Hydrosirical go to 1hr 50 and hear the sound of the porsche under the tunnel or if u have the game drive the e92 or some of the lambos and mclaren f1 . Nfs needs to focus on shit like that and the gameplay. I understand that some studios dont have the budget but damn black box did that shit in the past no excuses.
I've no idea why this game got so much hate. I mean yeah, the QTE was weak and out of place in a racing game. But the graphics was great. The handling was waaay better than the new MW. And I enjoy the premise.
QTE is dev decision to give camera angles that is not possible with the gameplay so no choice but to put the buttons stuff. It's not really bad. It gave me an andenaline running from the police in Las Vegas.
Just finished the walkthrough for the second time since it first came out.Even nine years later this game is still fun,and in my category one of my top three favorite NFS games.I just wish I could've used the GT500 Super Snake from start to finish.
I don't care about what the people say the game is epic and way underrated. Purchased it back in 2016 and playing the Story Mode at least once a year since then. The soundtrack is so intense and playing the run on extreme mode never becomes easy no matter how many times you play it
TheRun had such a great idea, too bad the mechanics are not well thought out. I like the concept, but not the gameplay. What if: - each cross country stage will not start immediately; you wait for the organizer's announcement - during the wait you can explore the nearby city you stop in, do multiple types of street races for some money - add dynamic fuel tank system, which would entice you to fill up on the gas station - each gas station have a garage where you can use the money you got to repair cosmetic damage, upgrade and tune your cars, buy cars, allow you to switch cars - during cross country stage, make the fuel consumption act in response to how you drive (drive harder, and you need to stop earlier. Of course, like F1 racing, you can fill up anytime you see a gas station, no need to wait for the tank to near empty. Choice is yours) - TheRun is open to all types of 4 wheels vehicles, including trucks (that were added in later NFS installment). It should make race have more variety. - busted by cops is no more scripted, you can be busted and get away, like in the existing scripted scene. Or fail and get game over (with some cutscene to tie up your story) - like existing game, damage is cosmetics during the cross country. But when you explore the city/town you rest in, there will be performance handicap when you do local street races. Until you repair them in the garage, of course - when repairing your cars, add a bit of cutscene where the character will comment which parts were damage and need replaced. Damaged parts will be based on how you damage the car, so that each cutscenes will have different dialogues and not repetitive. - organizer will route your map which road you need to use when cross country stage start. You will have to be at the starting point in time attack manner; the same like in the existing game beginning. But being as how you are on different city/town each stages, this will be refreshing and not felt repetitive. If the developer can make the path random each time stage starts, it would be much better. - use time (maybe stage starts after 3 in-game days you spent at a city/town) or story segment to trigger the start of cross country stage Build the story around those mechanics and you'll got a great game with multiple hours of gameplay. Your rivals would get character development too during the cutscene segment, define every rivals different motives to enter TheRun

The RUN was my first game when the ps3 came out. On of the the best need for speed games in my opinion. Even just as a racing game in general. Every race had some sort of rush or urgency, and once u think it gets easy, it gets harder and more insane. one of the only games I ever felt like i was in the car racing and experiencing this!
that avalanche race was hands down the hardest race in the entire game 😂 the music, the atmosphere, the daredevil you gotta do this type feeling, the giant fireballs hitting the mountains, only you and another racer, the adrenaline rush. whoever came up with that idea is dope asf
Only difference is that the main character's motives. In this game its to settle the debt with the mob and in the movie he wants to prove his innocence. Also its kinda funny that the start and finish lines of the races are the same just flipped. The Run: San Fran to NY NFS Movie: NY to San Fran.
The battle race on the snow mountain is truly a hell and insane. You can see that your opponent is unable to race anymore due to the fact that at the 1:29:07 till you finished the race, the timer which counting the gap time between you and your opponent is just count + second, and you finished before your opponent with almost 1min lesser, which is truly great gap in NFS game. And those failing rock, snow storm and everything.., It is just insane and scared....
played this game when I was 9, and it pretty much defined my teenage years and made me fall in love with cars very strongly. I would always find myself returning to this game every year after playing it. the last I played it was early 2021 mainly because I wanted to get gold on every challenge in the challenge series. so much nostalgia man. it's my favorite racing game ever although it is quite flawed I enjoyed it nonetheless (after all it was my first NFS game) it's nice to see people return to this game and give it another shot rather than just flat out call it terrible without even fully finishing it. honestly it's no MW 2006, but its has it's own thing going on. I would give it a 7.7/10 personally.
NFS The Run brings more realism when driving a car, it's not just about skill in a video game, players have to take advantage of the situations like in real life. People that hate this game are idiots.

Many people hate this game because it brakes the "tradition" of the NFS series, which is open world, and customization. But I love this game because its music, graphics, and reasonable story (not long enough though). If you can accept the fact that it's a "CoD but racing" kind of game, then it will be pretty nice. The Run is suitable for the gamers who don't have much time for upgrading every details but still want to play some racing games with good graphics and music.

I've no idea why this game got so much hate. I mean yeah, the QTE was weak and out of place in a racing game.

QTE is dev decision to give camera angles that is not possible with the gameplay so no choice but to put the buttons stuff. It's not really bad. It gave me an andenaline running from the police in Las Vegas.

Just finished the walkthrough for the second time since it first came out.Even nine years later this game is still fun,and in my category one of my top three favorite NFS games.I just wish I could've used the GT500 Super Snake from start to finish.
I don't care about what the people say the game is epic and way underrated. Purchased it back in 2016 and playing the Story Mode at least once a year since then. The soundtrack is so intense and playing the run on extreme mode never becomes easy no matter how many times you play it
TheRun had such a great idea, too bad the mechanics are not well thought out. I like the concept, but not the gameplay.
What if:
- each cross country stage will not start immediately; you wait for the organizer's announcement
- during the wait you can explore the nearby city you stop in, do multiple types of street races for some money
- add dynamic fuel tank system, which would entice you to fill up on the gas station
- each gas station have a garage where you can use the money you got to repair cosmetic damage, upgrade and tune your cars, buy cars, allow you to switch cars
- during cross country stage, make the fuel consumption act in response to how you drive (drive harder, and you need to stop earlier. Of course, like F1 racing, you can fill up anytime you see a gas station, no need to wait for the tank to near empty. Choice is yours)
- TheRun is open to all types of 4 wheels vehicles, including trucks (that were added in later NFS installment). It should make race have more variety.
- busted by cops is no more scripted, you can be busted and get away, like in the existing scripted scene. Or fail and get game over (with some cutscene to tie up your story)
- like existing game, damage is cosmetics during the cross country. But when you explore the city/town you rest in, there will be performance handicap when you do local street races. Until you repair them in the garage, of course
- when repairing your cars, add a bit of cutscene where the character will comment which parts were damage and need replaced. Damaged parts will be based on how you damage the car, so that each cutscenes will have different dialogues and not repetitive.
- organizer will route your map which road you need to use when cross country stage start. You will have to be at the starting point in time attack manner; the same like in the existing game beginning. But being as how you are on different city/town each stages, this will be refreshing and not felt repetitive. If the developer can make the path random each time stage starts, it would be much better.
- use time (maybe stage starts after 3 in-game days you spent at a city/town) or story segment to trigger the start of cross country stage
Build the story around those mechanics and you'll got a great game with multiple hours of gameplay. Your rivals would get character development too during the cutscene segment, define every rivals different motives to enter TheRun

i loved this game. I think it was underrated. Of course, the plot could've been made better, but overall I really enjoyed the long distance run idea.

This game is unbelieavable! Gods of level design. I wonder how awesome this could be with even longer courses. Some levels are too short, unfortunately. This might not be the best NFS, but is my favorite by far. How badass it would be if all these tracks could offer some explorable maps? Just a dream. hahah
The RUN was my first game when the ps3 came out. On of the the best need for speed games in my opinion. Even just as a racing game in general. Every race had some sort of rush or urgency, and once u think it gets easy, it gets harder and more insane. one of the only games I ever felt like i was in the car racing and experiencing this!

Only difference is that the main character's motives. In this game its to settle the debt with the mob and in the movie he wants to prove his innocence. Also its kinda funny that the start and finish lines of the races are the same just flipped. The Run: San Fran to NY NFS Movie: NY to San Fran.

The battle race on the snow mountain is truly a hell and insane. You can see that your opponent is unable to race anymore due to the fact that at the 1:29:07 till you finished the race, the timer which counting the gap time between you and your opponent is just count + second, and you finished before your opponent with almost 1min lesser, which is truly great gap in NFS game. And those failing rock, snow storm and everything.., It is just insane and scared....

played this game when I was 9, and it pretty much defined my teenage years and made me fall in love with cars very strongly.
I would always find myself returning to this game every year after playing it. the last I played it was early 2021 mainly because I wanted to get gold on every challenge in the challenge series. so much nostalgia man. it's my favorite racing game ever although it is quite flawed I enjoyed it nonetheless (after all it was my first NFS game)
it's nice to see people return to this game and give it another shot rather than just flat out call it terrible without even fully finishing it.

Many people hate this game because it brakes the "tradition" of the NFS series, which is open world, and customization.
But I love this game because its music, graphics, and reasonable story (not long enough though). If you can accept the fact that it's a "CoD but racing" kind of game, then it will be pretty nice.
The Run is suitable for the gamers who don't have much time for upgrading every details but still want to play some racing games with good graphics and music.
