Dylan is joined by the legendary Garrett McNamara. The big wave surfer thrust Nazaré into prominence in 2011 when he broke the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed. You can currently learn more about this story on HBO’s hit documentary ‘100 Foot Wave’.
Dylan and Garrett discuss, amongst other things, how he ended up in Nazare, some of his frustrations with his home town, his love affair with Portugal and why he chooses to live here permanently with his family.

Portugal is the land where secrets go to die.
The most amazing thing about the waves at Nazaré is that they have always been there, right off the coast of western Europe, directly north of one of Portugal's most famous beach towns. And yet no one ever talked about them, no one ever heard of them, no one ever wrote about them, no one ever studied them, no one ever wondered what the hell was going on with these massive waves at Praia do Norte.
We have family friends who grew up in Caldas da Rainha, not far from Nazaré. They frequented the beach at Nazaré in their youth. I asked them if they had ever heard anything, even a rumour of the giant waves, and they said no. Not a peep.
If you can keep the world's biggest waves a secret from your own people, imagine what other Portuguese secrets are waiting to be discovered, just under the surface, just off the coast, or right there in plain sight.
