- I was a flag marshal at the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. This is from entry at Turn 9 - my view point from the weekend.

I don’t think you can notice any difference on screen.
The real difference is very small, the fastest and slowest cars only have a few kph difference.
Of course it is a lot if you are fighting to win the race, but not something you could feel or see.

Wow mercedes really fast
I was there at that race and something that cameras don’t pick up is the sound of the air being disturbed as the cars go past you. It has a deep bass tone and is something you can feel as the car goes past. It was surreal.
ya if u look closely enough you can actually see the slipstream from some of the cars for a quick second after it passes, looks like air dispersing

@@Cirerin you can't see slipstream per say but you can very clearly see how they disturb the air behind them, lol but we can play this game of who knows more if you want
@@Cirerin I'm late to the conversation but you can, you can see small vortices of air especially when these cars approach a corner, you can even watch free practice or preseason tests highlights even from 2020 and see vortices of air spin from the rear wing

They used to. Now they make sure you can see the sponsors at all times, zooming in so far that you can’t tell the car had just locked up into a corner. It’s ridiculous.

i actually love the sound of the current generation and i think this video does a great job of showing why it's so cool. despite the fact that it's not as loud as the older generation, there is so much depth to the sound and the quieter engine noise helps you hear deatails like the turbo and the loud honda backfires.
I agree mate. I think these are the best sounding cars from hybrid era.
The V6’s are a tiny bit quieter because they’re turbocharged but they are still very similar on how loud they are, it’s just that the human ear picks up the frequency from V6’s and interprets them to be quieter.
While I admit this sound is growing on me, watching the paddock react to Alonso's renault in 2020 is what makes you know we lost something very special.

When your actually at such an event, you clearly see the effects of downforce upon the cars sticking to the road as otherwise traveling that fast around turns would see to them flying off the track crashing into the barriers. F1 is the most extreme to this effect. Indy street circuit races are way way slower than F1, But indy is faster than f1 in their large oval settings. The effect is even very visable in GT racing series.
Also Nascar is faster at superspeedways, but F1 and the speed that corners are taken with all of the downforce is insane

18 seconds of this give a better representation of how fast these cars are than a whole weekend with the current awful shots we get through the official channels. "Gotta show them sponsors though!" - FOM
it's been like this for YEARS. Terrible shots are what strucks me the most during broadcasts, apart form switching the view to celebrities or fans in general at the " best " times possible.
Nothing beats standing just ahead of the Braking Point for Turn 3 (which is a right angle+ corner) at Albert Park, you hear them coming, they fly past, the deceleration is as extraordinary as the speed (and the disturbed air makes a sound that is surreal) and they enter the corner and gone in the blink of your eye.

it also shows just how much the drivers need to have their wits about them - with the slow moving Merc moving out of sight around the blind bend.
It's amazing how bad the tv producers are at showing this speed.

The last WTF
When i saw them the first time in the flesh at Silverstone in the 90s it was quite a revelation. The straights are obvously fast but so what the real eye opener was them going throught the Becketts complex and thr changes in direction. Also back in those days if you stayed after there was a free show with Damon playing guitar! The cars were also parked up in the open ! I even saw one kid jump in sit down and his dad take a photo! I kid you not! Somewhere i have a little jar with marbles off Damon's wheels. Its all over priced crap now!
The V10s inarguably sound better, but let’s not pretend these 1.6Ts don’t make some cool-ass noises
I really wish they clean up thus mess one car going 70 an Max or checa just went by at 320kph...see how fast he took the corner that was impressive oh yeah the flick by the camera for sure...
