Your Portuguese is so good!! Congrats!! Just two quick pronunciation tips to help you:
    1) if a word begins with "r" we pronounce as if it was English's "h", so for instance "razão" won't have really the "r" sound but rather an "h" sound (which in Portuguese is phonetically represented by double "r", as in the word "carro" - car).
    2) until you get comfortable with the sound of "LH" you can say it as if it was "LI", for instance "coelho" (rabbit) - it's better to pronounce it as if it was "coelio" than if you say "coelo".
ps: I'm Brazilian but I used to live in Portugal and there I used to be a Portuguese tutor to this French student I had so I know how some apparently simple pronunciation tips can really help. Good luck on your language learning journey!!

I've been learning German for the past two and a half months. I would recommend everyone to check out forvo to get that native like pronunciation, and when you start, try to familiarize yourself with the alphabet and how letters in the target language sound, because it will save a lot of time for you in the future because you won't have to fix your pronunciation and people will have an easier time understanding you. For me the most effective methods were the ones that I found difficult to do, and ones which were very exhausting because our brain is a problem solver and it does everything that it has to process become easier, despite other language youtubers/mentors saying to do things you enjoy, so that you make yourself spend time with the language. Grammar wise at the beginning, I wouldn't focus 100% on it, instead I would familiarize myself with what is waiting for me, and introduce myself to the possible changes in sentences and how certain grammar structures work, because I have noticed that grammar acquisition comes in naturally with constantly bombarding yourself with the TL, but independent grammar study is a must when you really want to master the language, but most important thing is VOCABULARY Acquisition: Resources like Anki are great for it, and any sort of reading is essential too.

    • @polyglotinthemakinglukasz4230
      @polyglotinthemakinglukasz4230 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Also if your language has genders for nouns then learn nouns along with their corresponding gender in single and plural form. Colour coding helps a bit as well e.g. In German der is (masculine) so I highlight der with blue, die (feminine) with pink, das (neuter) stays white, (plurals) die with orange. Mnemonics are an easy way to memorize vocabulary, the weirder the image is, the more memorable it will be.

When starting, You barely know how the language sounds like. You are gonna create a lot of bad habits of pronunciation. Its not a good idea to start really early.
It’s not something serious, but it helps a lot to let output come out naturally. For me, I started speaking Spanish around 5 months in. I don’t feel confident enough to start speaking Japanese 8 months in lol. Don’t rush it.

Parabens! I also like languages, I’m a native Spanish speaker, I live in Tijuana, México. Never studied English cause My city in a border town so it came naturally. I took italiano during med school but I think that I rusty, although the music I most listen to is Italian. When I was doing my social service I started learning French and German, my teachers corrected me because I used to many Italian or English words. Recently I started studying portugués but had to switch to self study cause they didn’t open the 3rd level which would have taken me to finish A1 level. Right now I’m in my second year of my doctorate, and I noticed that I can expand on the articles I read cause of my language studies. I still think I need more time for my portugués to be better but I don’t get enough free time. The only thing that I still listen to is music, but now is Italian, French, and Portugués, jajaja with a sprinkle of kpop cause of my daughter. Thanks for the great tips.

Fernando Pessoa is a writer perfect for inspiring the hunger to learn Portuguese. For practicing or inspiring Italian, a movie named Il Postino based on the Poet Pablo Neruda's life can be found on TH-cam. For English like actual AMERICAN english, a writer like Jack Kerouac is a great choice, his voice is crisp and very well articulated. Spanish inspiration and good practice is Julio Cortazar, Jorge Luis Borges from Argentina who knew German, French and English apart from Spanish, Francisco Urondo--Spanish. For French, writer Michel Houellebecq.

I like your way of grasping the language in depth which is not the case of many polyglots in youtube. There are many polyglots in youtube especially who know few phrases and can make few sentences and they include that language in their resume.
However I don't know why many of the people who I knew started learning Portugese and after a while their English speaking somehow started to suck. I found it very frightening and therefore im scared of this language. They worked in Brazil and maybe that had a hand in it. This is totally my observation and i may be totally wrong due to my small sample size. However i would like to suggest you to start learning a language which is outside of Latin root like arabic, farsi or maybe hindi. Arabs and Indians have strong culture which is very different from Europe and can be fascinating for many people. Doing this will also increase your viewers by leaps and bounds as their speakers and listeners are large in number.

oh hi. I loved learning arabic. it was an amazing experience, but I did not take any courses at college and I slowly forgot about it, but I will definitely pick it up again at some point. You are right, I want to learn a language that is not Latin. I think I am going to learn either Russian or Japanese in the near future 😊

Your Portuguese pronunciation is quite good. I'm Brazilian and I've been learning English for 4 years and I'm still not fluent yet, so I know how difficult is to learn a new language, but it's fantastic to know how fast you have learned Portuguese. If you want a native Portuguese speaker to practice your Portuguese with I'd be really happy to help you with that ( but i know that you already have a partner to practice Portuguese language with😭).

if you are serious about it, everysummer is a language learnt. i learnt most of my english in 2 months. from barely knowing anything to understanding fluently native speakers in many languages. (school didnt hepl me with english :/). after realising people really ahve difficulties with language learning , my friend told me i should be learning more language. so i started japanese in january, swedish 1 and half month later, then chinese 1 and half months ago. i now know basic in those languages. Since i wasnt really serious about it and it was mostly when i was bored i didnt learnt as mush as i could have. Imma try to learn chinese more seriously for 3 month then go to swedish for 2 months (since i've done more swedish learning and it's alot easier for me.
This year at school im taking spanish to see how mush i can learn from it to see how my school will do with learning spanish since i know many youtuber polyglot said they are not that great at learning us spanish , but i still wanna see it myself.

Hey :) Nice tips and methods! Do you pause the TH-cam video when you don't get the meaning of some phrases and words (like when the new words appear during the video) or just keep watching and try to figure out the general idea without diving into a particular phrases? Because my technique is that I pause the each (or almost each) part of the video which I don't understand and check the meaning in translator. After the whole video I try to watch it second time but this time without pausing, just watching, having in mind the words I checked before. Actually it's time consuming, sometimes I "work with" one 15 min video through about 45min 😂 if you want practice more writing skills you can use one of the popular apps, like Tandem, search some native Portuguese speakers (or any other language) and exchange the language - then you can help others for example with Spanish or English. I use it from time to time and it's helpful. I really like the idea with double subtitles in Netflix, it seems cool! Greetings :)

What are some of your favorite nuances of those languages? Has it made you think differently in some way?
    For example:
I love how in Japanese, the subject and object are front-loaded at the beginning of sentence. Like painting the characters first, then finally connecting the verb/action later in the sentence.
It's made me re-think the relationships of words in a sentence and impacted how I organize some thoughts

I started learning Japanese in this quarentine. It was more challenging than learning German. I hope someday I will speak Japanese just like you speak Portuguese. i think it's gonna take around 2 or 3 years for me to be comfortable in Japanese. Not sure, though. I'm not in a hurry. I practice almost every day. Did I write a lot? LOL
