      It looks tempting if you want the convenience. But 2k is a lot. You can get a bambino plus and baratza grinder together for about 600 dollars. It is not going to be as easy but chances are the result will be as good. And you can just upgrade/replace machine or the grinder in future as needed.

    I bought the Oracle Jet a week ago. I truly like the technology better. I like the hints. I like that I can link the milk to the brew. Easier to keep this machine clean. The curves on the tray help alot. Older Oracle Touch user.

    You can’t permanently change the pre-infusion setting, but you can hold on the shot icon and switch to manual mode, and then you can do anywhere from 1-12 second pre-infusion (indicated by blue ring), tapping at any time to move on to normal extraction (red ring).

    Thank you so much for the insight! I happen to have an Oracle Touch and I really love the unit. It does everything I need it to and I realize that even when hosting a lot of people, I think a dual boiler is overkill for my needs. I really think the thermojet system would hold me over just fine for less $. I’m really impressed by the OTA updates and tech. Keep it up Breville!

    • @danidiamond
      @danidiamond 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The purpose of the dual boiler is so that you can forth milk at the same time you pull your shot. This way the espresso doesn't sit and loose all its creme. You want the creme and foamed milk to mix ASAP to get a balanced drink.

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ^ can still be achieved in plenty of time on a single boiler like this. Crema does not impact "balance" of a drink, it's just visual and takes several minutes to dissipate, not 30 seconds

    Currently have an oracle touch on my bench that I've got for testing. Here's how I think the jet compares:
    Good:
    Quicker heat up 5s vs 5min (debatable how long the group head will take to get hot though...)
    Jet system more reliable and less maintenance than a true dual boiler/heat exchange system
    Heated group head mean no compromise to shot quality and temp (cough cough barista pro and touch cough)
    Insulated steam wand (the oracle wands are metal and a pain to clean)
    Slick exterior design and smooth screen/UI
    Brew by volume (Oracle touch by time only sadly)
    Grind size feedback (although experienced brewers like me don't need that, it can help most people)
    Wifi (for feature and recipe additions I guess)
    Bad:
    In practice, still a single "boiler". Cannot steam while brewing. Why no dual thermojet?!
    I assume no pre infusion settings or tamper force/time adjustment or air pump adjustment like we have on BES980 Oracle non-touch
    Hot water spout might not be as hot as Oracles'
    Very expensive currently (3300 AUD) when the touch impress and non-touch oracle (1900 AUD) do mostly the same things
    Still using the dreadful clear-coat-on-stainless finish vs raw stainless as on non-touch machines.

    • @worx
      @worx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Once both are fully heated up, how would the espresso shot only compare? Does one make better espresso than the other? Or about the same?

    • @fuzziestlumpkin

      I think the reason for no dual thermojet is because the weak American electrical system could not handle the draw.

    I purchased the Touch Impress based on the reviews, including the one on this channel. However, the machine had two big flaws which were not mentioned in any of the reviews I’ve seen:
    1. The coffee tamping system needed adjustment very often and was not consistent.
    2. The grinder size adjustment dial value changed by itself because of the vibrations during grinding. Had to manually adjust grind settings almost every time I ground coffee.
    3. And the biggest flaw: the steam wand sometimes caused a short and the machine completely shut down unexpectedly. This happened twice in a single day. Breville support agreed to exchange the machine. However, on Reddit there are reports that people are getting exchanged units with the same flaw.
    All in all, I lost faith in Breville and got myself a GCP with a good grinder.

    • @kvast13
      @kvast13 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My comments to your points:
      1. I agree with you. However it becomes more consistent if you stick to the same beans and just dose in small batches at a time, while keeping your beans in a airtight container. If filled up then will start drying out quicker and this messing with the grind settings.
      2. I had this issue also. I found a fix for it. The machine makes a small beep when the grinder changes to a new step. Turn the dial slowly and stop at the beep. Then you will know if its a "true" grind size. The problem is that the machine doesnt show incremental sizes. For example 12,5 would show as 12 when adjusted to 12. Then when you turn it off/on, it will jump up/down one step, because it forces itself to even numbers. So in this example it will just to 13.
      3. Havent had issues with my steam wand so far. But maybe i was just lucky on that 🙂

      @@kvast13 1. And others tell you to keep the hopper as full as possible because the weight may help with consistent grinding... I hate the inconsistency on the Oracle Touch. The hopper is already pretty "airtight". And I go through a hopper in 2-3 days: The Oracle touch has a hopper with 230g and 22g per dose/coffee -> 11 coffees is not that much and if I would like the hassle of putting new beans into the machine every single time, I would not have gotten such a machine as the Oracle...
      2. It's still a thing Sage/Breville should have fixed in the new model. Especially when the machine is used in an office or such this is pretty annoying, since not everybody is informed about this.

      I upgraded from the Gaggia Classic Pro to a Breville Bambino Plus which produced much better consistent shots than the Gaggia. I liked the Bambino so much I bought the Touch Impress. No issues and I'm loving it. It's a great all in one. Gaggia is way overrated. Mine produced horribly inconsistent shots even with a good grinder.

    I upgraded from a Breville Pro to a Lelit Mara X and the biggest thing my wife and I noticed was are Lattes were hotter than when using Pro even after running dummy shots to heat up group head on Pro, this is my first E61 type machine and having a great time, seems like you are much more invloved in making the espresso with E61 than just pushing buttons, don't get me wrong the Pro is a very capable machine but for me my Mara X along with my Eureka Mignon grinder is a step up, Just my thoughts, in a blind taste test I think I would be hard pressed to tell the difference and also I really like the 58mm portifilter over the 54mm :)

    Nice review, thank you. I was ready to purchase one of these, but then I saw a review comparing it to the Ninja Luxe and it made me pause. Do you really think this is worth 4 times the price of the Ninja Luxe and makes that much better coffee drinks to justify it's price? Or would I have to do a side by side taste test to even notice the difference? I like to drink Americano's and occasionally cappuccino's and iced coffee drinks. I also like taking coffee to go and the Ninja has the ability to fit a travel mug under it. Do you think the coffee quality is noticeable enough to justify the added expense of this machine? I don't mind paying for it if it's really noticeably worth it.

      I tried to take the top off my Oracle Jet and couldn’t get it off without feeling like I was going to break it. Two screws in the back and clips around the edges of the top, but something near the front above the group head felt like it was holding on. Maybe you have to take off some screws around the group head too. I’ll wait for someone else to figure it out.
      Breville does sell some parts already, like new drip tray, group head gasket, shower screen, tamp fan, etc, but I don’t think they’ll sell you internal parts.

  • @TapInBirdie
    @TapInBirdie 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Excellent review. I have had the Oracle Jet for a couple weeks now and agree with all of the points of the video. As for the market for this machine, I think Breville hit the nail on the head from my perspective. I wanted a machine that was semi-automatic, could go from cold to drinkable coffee in a few minutes, and allowed for easy cleaning. The closed automatic systems such as Jura seemed like it would nightmare to keep clean. I have no problem moving the portafilter on the Oracle Jet from the grinder to the group head and ditch the used coffee after each coffee.
    My biggest, and perhaps only, issue so far is that I need to change the grind settings too often. I would like to move to a single dose setup so beans are not drying out in the hopper. Are there single dose kits that would also fit the Oracle Jet?

    • @Enthusiast_Plus
      @Enthusiast_Plus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Can’t you just keep your beans in a sealable canister and just weigh out the beans you want ? No need to keep the beans in the hopper.
      I do this on my barista express and dial in each bag of beans. Wife gets a specific setting for decaf and I have my setting.

    • @TapInBirdie
      @TapInBirdie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Enthusiast_Plus The way the Oracle Jet doses, in my experience, is it keeps spinning when it doesn’t think it has enough beans and then doesn’t tamp. I suppose if I hit it exactly right, it could work. I have been trying to do a modified version of this where I put in enough for the day and leave the rest in the vacuum canister. Some beans will inevitably stay overnight in the hopper.

I'll be returning the "unopened" Touch Impress when the Jet arrives. I've been trying to find information regarding the grinder's ability to handle light roasts. • @GraysonCarr
      @GraysonCarr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve had the Jet for about a month. I suspect the dual boiler Oracle would be faster for the first 4-5 drinks since it can pull and steam at the same time, but after that, the small boiler in the old Oracle might need some time to recover or your shots will start pulling cooler and be sour, and in that case the Jet might pull ahead since it never runs out of hot water. You can just refill the tank and keep going immediately and forever with no warmup time.

    • @ryanc3001
      @ryanc3001 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The dual boiler doesn't suffer from this. It's widely regarded as one of the most stable temperature machines in the market. So I guess what your said about speed is going to be true

    Thanks for this overview! Please, please don’t wait long on releasing the comparison with the Touch Impress. I have that machine and I like it very much. However, if the auto milk is as much as an improvement as it looks, combined with superior thermal performance, improved grinder, more recipes, firmware updates, I’m tempted with this machine. On the TI, there’s a huge gap between auto and manual milk quality. Can the Jet be comparable to manual steaming? Can’t wait!

    Have they changed the basket size? The Oracle tough had a 22g basket, and getting say that down to 18g was just impossible (19g is the closest I've gotten and even then it isn't consistent). I quite quickly switched to an external grinder, but having two grinders does give the you the option of having two different coffees at the same time (we have decaf in the machine and regular in the external grinder).
    Also how consistent is the dosage? This is also something I feel like the Oracle Touch struggled with - from one shot to the next the dosage could be off by 1-2 grams which is too much.
    Did you ask them why they couldn't integrate a grind to weight grinder? That seems like a no-brainer to me at this price point, especially now that the ninja offers it at a much lower price.

  • @BorisDesmond

    Biggest problem with Oracles imo is that they are not made to last. They are sold as "premium" but their main advantage is really convenience if you are new to expresso. My oracle had a leaking steam boiler after just 2 years. Also in Australia the Jet is the most expensive of the whole line-up. Not quite worth it imo.

      Yeah, I suggested the Oracle (non touch) to my sister and they’ve had nothing but problems with it, I believe they had to send it back 4 times under the 2 year warranty period and also linked to a leaking boiler

      @29mailman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree completely. I have the Barista Express and talked my sister into getting the Oracle, non touch, and they’ve had nothing but problems with it. Had to send it in 4-5 times within the two ywsr warranty period and the last time it broke it took so long to get customer support to do something (around 4 months) that by the time they finally let them ship it for repair they were going on about it being out of warranty. Think a leaky boiler was the main culprit the last time.

It has taken me a while to dial in our existing machine combo, so much that sadly I have NOT explored many different coffee beans. But we do like the end espresso product each morning.

    As a Rocket R58 dual-boiler owner, I have rarely if ever pulled a shot and steamed milk at the same time. The only reason it appealed to me was the ability to be temperature stable immediately as I switched between the two vs purging and waiting like I had to do with my previous Rocket HX machine. If the Thermojet can rapidly switch between temps and save power - I don't see any real home use-case where dual boiler would be better than a thermojet.

If you could do a review of the Morning Dream milk steamer that would be great. • @GraysonCarr

      Default dose is about 22g for the double basket depending on roast level of coffee, and you can adjust it up or down by about 2g at most. But you won’t want to adjust dose often as it requires tools, takes a minute, and you don’t know how much you adjusted until you try it. Maybe you could get 18g with a smaller basket, but not sure.

    We Love this machine so far but a little disappointed that you can’t control coffee volume. Usually 20 to 21 grams

    I’m 2-1/2 years into ownership of a GE CAFE Bellissimo Semi-Automatic machine I bought because it matched my major appliances, appeared to be actually made for GE by Beville but was less expensive at $530 because all the adjustments for grind times, water temp and output volumes are made via iPhone app instead of touch screen on the machine. Unfortunately the water-brew-steam valve which is made out of Chinesium plastic has started to leak dripping water from the grinder area and steam wand like an old man with prostrate problems. It still (barely) makes an acceptable Americano and Latte but it will soon be relegated to doorstop status due to an unavailability of parts or service.
    A machine like the Oracle Jet is tempting for its convenience but the internals are not as robust and long lived as a similar price range machine made by ECM which while less sophisticated and automated is better constructed (in Germany), serviceable and the better long term return on investment I think.

I just think if you're really into espresso-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, the extra cold brew function might not be enough. There are so many cold brew makers out there, some even faster. Cold brew can definitely take a long time to make. I have the Breville precision brewer, and making quality cold brew usually takes about 14 hours, so it's not a quick process.
      So, having a quick way to make a cold brew is cool. I love the machine's functionality, but I still think spending almost $2000 on a kitchen appliance is a lot. By the way, your video is excellent, as always; you do such a good job with these breakdowns!

      I also wouldn't recommend buying for the cold espresso or "cold brew" functions. Big brands seem to have identified this as a trend that is here to stay, but I don't really see the advantage when compared to just pulling a shot over ice. As you said, this isn't true "cold brew" which is fundamentally an entirely different brewing method.
      Audience for this machine are those who like drinking coffee, and don't want to take on a new hobby to do so. They want to press a few buttons and get the highest quality possible. This is the unique little corner the Oracles have always lived in (super auto effort, manual machine drink quality) but they sure charge a pretty penny for it. That said, this is by far the cheapest Oracle yet

      Fair enough, I love that they finally upgraded the burrs on their newer machine grinders. I think it’s going to help a lot of people dial in their espresso much more quickly. I look forward to seeing more reviews of this machine.

      @@LifestyleLab_ In Canada it’s like The Great Wall… getting info, getting attention, getting satisfaction. But that’s just the two mid-level machines I’ve owned. When they worked, they worked; when they stopped, they became landfill.

    So do the espressos taste 75% better than the Ninja? If not, I think I will have the $1500 extra I would have to spend to get the Breville. $2000 is a lot of money. It would have to be a massive improvement it taste to make me spend that much. Like the difference from freshly ground coffee beans from a local shop, and Folgers instant from the grocery store store 😂

      I would consider the Breville Touch impress as an option. Which is about $1200 US. I purchased this to replace 7 year old original oracle and was surprised by the big step up in results. So I was very keen to watch this review of this new model. My assessment is the touch impress has all the key features that count eg barraza grinder, jet heating, milk iq and colour touch screen. Whilst the oracle jet this has lots of little improvements. I don’t think it’s worth the big step up in price.

      @@adamrobinson6425 I have Breville, I think it may be the base model though. It was like $700. And I don’t really like. Not very user friendly. Thinking about getting the Ninja so I don’t have to waste 2/3 a bag of beans trying to dial in the grind 😂

    Their lineup now is non-existent between the Bambino Plus and the Barista Express.
    I guess they found their market with too expensive, all-integrated machines, plus one base model.
    The standalone grinder I got from them is the weak link in getting consistency, so perhaps their new grinders are better. Variable retention is a key weakness of my current Breville grinder and I don't think the new ones have solved retention.

      Grinders have certainly seen a massive improvement in burr and grind quality since the early days
