Very nice review 👍 The only unique thing for this machine is the automatic tamping. I'm curious how good this system is, the Impress line had a lot of issues with the tampers and grind measuring. What are the differences between this Sage, the Ninja and the Meraki. Maybe that's an idea for the next video?
Great detailed review, looking forward to getting one, have the original oracle, looking forward to thermojet technology, stability, perhaps less maintenance
#OracleJet PS: love your videos and I learn a lot with you. Just moved from a Philips LatteGo 4200 to a Breville Barista Touch Impress, and I'm loving the machine. Regards from Montreal.
Hi Tom, i have noticed in your video and when i visited bestbuy that the fit and finish of this machine is not good. I can see the un perfection on the right side of the tray.
Very good review, I got a very good impression! Very good job! I also wouldnt go with a touchscreen, too cumbersome to operate. The automatic puck prep sounds delicious, but honestly would wait for the next versions/iteration to get rid of teething problems like uneven surfaces. AutoMilq is a bit disappointing honestly. I like the look of the machine in general, also being very compact and being not too deep (problem with smaller kitchen desks). How precise is the water temperature? Sage/Breville had really inconsistencies there from Barista Pro extracting too hot to Express Impress going too low.
Great detailed video! I am a convenience person but love great coffee. I dont want to do the manual process of grinding, tamping, using a scale etc to get good coffee... which is why I am looking at super automatics or the touch impress or the oracle jet. I am very keen on TI but heard the hot-water temp on that is too low... so either super or the jet might be what I end up with.
It comes across as a fusion of the Touch Impress re-imagined for the higher price Oracle line. Agree with you that the grinder (same as Touch Impress) is inconsistent, as is the Barista guidance. Is it worth it? I'd rather spend the money on a decent Italian espresso machine and a good grinder.
To make the automatic steam wand work for micro foam : latte art and texturing, you will need to push the milk carafe forward until the steam wand is almost touching the back side of the milk carafe, and it will work.
I tried that and it still just made soupy milk with big bubbles on top. I'd like to see someone else's video, actually showing how they did it and the result.
Great video! Is the milk microfoam very silky like a La Marzocco? Do you really get a decent roll? And is the milk steamer more powerful and better tasting than the Sage Barista Touch?
In manual mode, it gets extremely silky. But it's been really good ever since the Barista Pro, honestly. This might be slightly better. I don't know how it compares to LM, but LM steams way too fast. You have to be a professional to steam the milk well in 10 seconds.
Great in-depth video, thanks. I think this is the machine for me. There’s no one feature that makes it a slam dunk over the touch impress, but lots of features are better, it has cold drink options for example. I want decent cappuccino without fuss and options for other drink e.g. cold coffee in the summer. I don’t mind manual foaming but my partner needs a one touch machine. #OracleJet
No one has been talking about the 30w per hour power consumption this uses while off (in "sleep" mode) - this is why it takes more like 2 minutes to start up with a hard power shut off. Will add up over a year (253kw a year!)
I'm guessing they aren't talking about this because it is incorrect. In my experience, it doesn't even hit 30W when the machine is on and the group heater is working.
@@idudas80 It does use about 30W when the machine is powered on with the group heater running. When the machine is in standby (as in, plugged in and turned on at the wall, but sleeping as when you press the big round button or leave it inactive for 5 minutes) it uses "less than 1W". I tested it with a smart plug rather than an actual meter,as that's what I had on hand. But the plug is accurate to the Watt, and even if it uses 500mW that's still 60x less than claimed.
Hi Tom. Thank you very much for your review. I just bought the Oracle Jet and I seek an advice: I use freshly roasted beans (14 days old) and the Jet wants me to use grind size 41. That gives me a time of about 30 sec but infusiontime is only 4-5 seconds before it begins dripping. Can there be something wrong with my unit you think? From what I see from reviews grind sizes between about 20-34 are more normal. I have just bought a VST basket 18 g to get less coffee. Best, Jon
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Just a follow up in case it is relevant to you or others. Shortly after I wrote the Jet stopped tamping the puck - simply just left with a lot of grind and nothing else. I got in touch with technical support and it ended with a replacement. I am pretty sure there was something wrong also with the grinder because the beans in the replacement now needs a grindsize 36 and the flow also seems much more consistent.
#OracleJet Thanks Tom for the in depth review! Can you recommend a good bottomless portafilter for this machine? The group head design seems to be different than other oracle models.
I used a standard Neouza 3rd party one that works great. BUT, Sage has something in the works for their own bottomless, finally...coming up soon in a video. Cheers!
Thanks Tom I’ll keep an eye out! Strike one for me I ordered a norm core bottomless/wooden handle portafilter that said it was compatible with Breville machines but the handle neck made contact with the group head while trying to tighten
I also had a case today where the “tamper” wasn't working properly. It somehow sounded like a mechanical problem. Perhaps there is a slipping clutch that spins when it is blocked.
The #OracleJet is looking pretty good and convenient, but at a high cost. I wonder if the trick of putting one or two, two euro coins under the pitcher at the front edge, so it get a bit of an angle could help to get a swirl going to incorporate the bubbles. Seen that done on some of the other Sage automatic milk steamers. But it should of course work better out of the box. I’m also surprised they did a volumetric grinder and not by weight, like some others did.
Today I tried it with a steep angle (holding the jug at an angle by hand). Doesn't work either. The lance is simply too deep in the milk. But it really is extremely easy to do manually.
That automatic steaming is a dealbreaker for me. Could have been interesting if you'd reached out to Sage/Breville to get a response from them. It is an important part of the machine and surprising to see it fail when they are known to be so competent in that area. Very disappointing to me.
I reached out to them when it didn't work for me on the Touch Impress, and they told me to make sure the steam wand was clean. I did check that, but that's not the culprit.
Hi Tom, I purchased the Delonghi dedica ec 685 just a few days ago. I'm getting into coffee so wanted to start with ground coffee & then slowly advance. I have a Papua ground coffee from Indonesia but I'm not able to get much extract. Can it be because of the grind size being too fine that it can't work with a pressurized basket? Or any other reason & possible troubleshoot?
What store is the best place to purchase this? As far as customer service or if I have any issues or any other reasons? I have a Williams-Sonoma in my area as well as other options.
Thank you for another excellent video. I like the thermojet technology, the dual-boiler seems energetically unsuitable for a few coffees a day. At a relatively high price, milk frothing could be the biggest advantage, but it probably isn't. The grinder doesn't particularly stand out, I can probably do without automatic tamping, I wouldn't use a large number of drinks, the accessories are rather impoverished even compared to the lower Barista range, the impression from the inside is "very Chinese". Simply to sum it up, a lot of features and a lot of little things that can break. For some, it may be a suitable option instead of an automatic coffee machine, I will probably be more satisfied with Barista Pro, also in terms of interface and functions (and at a third of the price).
@@petrarsenjev9079 Yeah, an actual double (18g) shot basket alongside the 22g that most would consider a triple would have been nice. I don't really see the point in an additional portafilter, though.
@@mamadouaziza2536sage has more options but non of it work. The methods is different but does it matter? at the end of the day, if it can make good foam it is good method
Few questions 1. How is it for single dosing, is there much retention? I have a single dose mod on my BBE and hope there's something similar for this in the future 2. If I take out the spinning fan for the Puck prep could I dose into a portafilter for manual Puck prep?
@@i3kelBut the highlight is the automatic tamping. If you don't want that, you can also buy another machine with Thermojet. Automatic tamping will not work with single dosing.
@@thisismyday287 I think it's having the option. The auto tamping will have my family able to make their own drinks without any issues. It also let's me get that little extra out of my shots by doing manual prep
The answer to the second question is yes, but there is no time or weight based grind option, so you should probably single dose. I haven't actually tried single dosing, but minus the tamp fan the grinder is much the same as any other Sage/Breville grinder, albeit better in construction. I'm pretty sure their hopper fitting hasn't changed ever, or at least not in about 5 years, so the single dose hopper for your express might fit.
The fact the dosing amount is not consistent is a massive deal breaker for me. Another point for me is the fact you have to pull multiple shot’s before it pulls good ones. Seems like a ton of wasted time imo. Thank you @Tomscoffeecorner for another great in-depth review! #oraclejet
He was talking about what happened after he messed with the dosing fan height. In my experience, dosing is incredibly accurate... To the point I actually find it weird how accurate it is. The biggest variance I've seen so far is 0.2g. Likewise, I haven't seen any extraction problems once dialled in, but I always preheat my portafilter.
Hi Tom, thanks for the vids. I'm new to all this so if anyone can explain.. I'm getting 22g from the double basket but only 32g liquid from a double shot from the Oracle Jet. I have it set up for volumetric so the double shot should be producing 44g of liquid, right? What am I doing wrong? Shot time is about 22/23 seconds. Thanks!
@@steelgtr The OJ is better in my experience, as I found the BTI would sometimes overdose. The OJ does it by volume, which seems to work better for me.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner The OJT is expensive and hard to find at the moment and I think the BTI does latte auto frothing better, so probably going with that. Thanks
#oraclejet always interesting to see how automated they can get but its solutionism at it’s finest. It doesn’t do much more than a bambino assuming user takes just slightest amount of interest in
#OracleJet I’m considering moving on from having *both* a barista express and a creatista plus (for the auto milk) but I’m getting the vibe that this isn’t the one.
They definitely missed the mark by not including the ability to steam while brewing coffee. Sunbeam in Australia has been doing that for 10 years now with thermoblock technology. I mean you don't have to have the heater hor all the time to steam just have the ability to run the heater when you want to run steam. They also should have made the group head heat up at the moment you turn on the machine and not after you grind. 30 minutes is too long to heat up.! the beauty of the Thermo jet machines are that they heat very quickly compared to the Boiler machine. But if you have to wait as long as a boiler machine for it to get hot, what's the point? Why not just include a Boiler machine? Given that this machine cost as much as an Oracle and Oracle touch, I think Breville could have done better. Hopefully they fix these with a new version soon.
The group starts heating as soon as you turn the machine on without even selecting a drink, let alone grinding. I don't know where you get the 30 minute figure from, but it is wrong. Even without a blank shot, the shower screen is uncomfortable to touch in under a minute.
One thing that keeps me from getting one of these screen only machines is the fact that if the monitor fails, you can't use the machine at all. To have one point of failure that makes the machine completely unusable doesn't sit well with me.
I've seen a few people make this comment, and find it weird... If the control board, heater (be it a boiler or thermo block), or pump fail, you can't use the machine. These are all single points of failure that make the machine useless if they break, so what is so special about the screen? Do people just think touch screens are unreliable by nature?
@@fuzziestlumpkinsome people just don’t like touch screens, usually older people. I still haven’t met a person who’s had an electronic device with touchscreen issues.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I just bought the Oracle Jet and I honestly think that you might have a faulty auto milk in the machine. I got a nice rotation of the milk and the micro bubbles were nicely incorporated. #Oracle Jet This thing seems feature packed, Thanks for this wonderful review! Those adjustments that you had to make, did you write them all down in case people ask? Dialing in seems to be my least favorite part of Espresso making @_@ But dang do I love delicious espresso!
@@fuzziestlumpkin Not quite. You need to lower the tamper fan further down into the basket first, to create proper head space above the puck, and THEN buy a different basket to further reduce the dose.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Appreciate it! I'll wait for your video to drop before I go shopping for IMS baskets then... Was hoping to get away with not changing the fan height. Getting the right depth seems like it's gonna be a hassle!
Im having nothing but issues making a single shot flat white. Machine dials in a double basket at 31 grind setting for a 32 sec pour. Switch to a single basket and it wants a 42 grind setting for a 38 sec pour and it tastes watery. Four “wavey” tamps in a row. Really disappointed as the Barista Touch Impress has been brilliant.

One more thing your review is way different from the one Lance had. So do you think there is that much machine to machine variability? I was all set to buy this machine as my wife would be the main user and I know she is not going to put much time learning all the espresso nuisances.
From a manufacturing standpoint, I can't imagine there's a difference between the machines. We both show that the PID regulation is pretty good. I just find that the PF should be warmed up first, and that the machine provides better espressi as you pull more of them. That's kind of the same for most machines, as all the components and PF get up to the same temp. As for the auto milk, I cannot get that to work very well. But the manual milk steaming is easy enough, and it provides excellent texture. Cheers!
Can anyone recommend me an automatic bean to cup machine with the manual milk frother? I don’t like the idea of the automatic milk function as it can get dirty/mouldy
That auto milk is really disappointing for the price. And the thermals arent great. I picked up a second hand Gaggia Classic and it gets noticeably hotter than my Barista Express and produces some amazing shots.
In Germany you get at least 10% discount at Sage. So either as a newsletter voucher or you ask when ordering by phone. I paid 1709 EUR. Prices in Germany are always including taxes.
Great review. Question about the auto MilQ / Auto steaming though. Most other reviews on TH-cam (including Lance here who referenced you - th-cam.com/video/T93rPcRYW6Y/w-d-xo.html ) seem to have great results (latte art quality milk foam) with the Oracle Jet. Atleast better than the results with the Touch Impress. Perhaps the wand was faulty here? Also, if it doesn't swirl it, is the auto milk foam from a lower end Ninja Luxe better since it artificially swirls the milk while steaming? I'm between the Ninja Luxe Cafe (yeah, I know, lower end), Barista Touch Impress and the Oracle Jet for my next espresso machine. Currently using a Sette 270 + Breville Infuse just fine but I'd like for the non-home-barista folks in the house to sample coffee more often and for myself to have an easier start to the day.
I'm a bit stumped about the Auto MilQ. I saw that it worked well for Lance, but it's not working for me. I really don't have a good explanation, as I have tried differing volumes, different pitchers, all the different milk froth levels, different milk types. It just ain't working for me.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner It would be super interesting to get to the bottom of this. I’ve seen several reviews of this machine, and all pretty much praise the quality of the auto-milk texturing. So this is quite weird. I think yours is the only one using a European machine (Sage instead of Breville). Could there be a manufacturing difference? I’m in France, so that’s particularly concerning to me. Could it just be you got a bad unit? I’m really interested in getting one of these, but I won’t unless I can expect to get one that works like Lance’s. And I don’t want to go through the hassle of buying one and returning it 😕

I've had the same disappointing experience with steaming, for what it's worth. Anything above level 4 with dairy milk is just a large-bubble fest at the top, liquid at the bottom. Levels 1 to 4 have a more normal bubble size, but still, quite liquid and bubbles remain unincorporated through most of the milk. I have to do a lot of swirling to get anything decent, and that's a poor substitute for a normal vortex.

Definitely disappointing a $2000 machine can't have a better auto froth mode, I wonder if an update could help? I mean surely their engineers knew it was subpar milk frothing for months or years of its development?
@@TJ-kj8ob Manual mode definitely always has benefit of introducing air then incorporating the big air bubbles while spinning the milk at an angle but yeah I don't know why an automated froth mode from a very high end machine made by an experienced company couldn't more or less solve on how to recreate that. Very nice review 👍
The only unique thing for this machine is the automatic tamping.
#OracleJet Thanks for the review, I'm thinking about getting the OJ, so this is very helpful.
Hi Tom, i have noticed in your video and when i visited bestbuy that the fit and finish of this machine is not good. I can see the un perfection on the right side of the tray.
Outstanding review as always! Thank you, Tom. #OracleJet
Appreciate your awesome review on the machine, btw the wireless scale is very awesome #OracleJet
#OracleJet very good as always. What you think about a comparison between Oracle Jet / oracle Touch /Barista Touch Impress
Thanks Tom, great video. We have ours a week now and love it, got a black one. Good tips on pre-heating the portafilter. #OracleJet
@@ShaneOSullivanky It looks lovely in black. Glad you’re enjoying it!
I have got a puck sucker by Breville, it works great.
Great review and information. Thank you. I would love to see how this #OracleJet compares to the Oracle Touch.
#OracleJet - interesting review Tom - thanks. Intrigued by the cold espresso... never really got into that...
Thanks for review,Tom!!
Always interesting to hear something new from you and yours thoughts about.
Really enjoyed your videos!
Greetings from 🇺🇦
To make the automatic steam wand work for micro foam : latte art and texturing, you will need to push the milk carafe forward until the steam wand is almost touching the back side of the milk carafe, and it will work.
#OracleJet
Thanks for the great video. Is it possible to demonstrate a single dose withe the one cup basket in a follow up?
No one has been talking about the 30w per hour power consumption this uses while off (in "sleep" mode) - this is why it takes more like 2 minutes to start up with a hard power shut off. Will add up over a year (253kw a year!)
I'm guessing they aren't talking about this because it is incorrect. In my experience, it doesn't even hit 30W when the machine is on and the group heater is working.
@@fuzziestlumpkin can you pleas check this, if you have a watt meter at hand? 30w/h would be a show stopper for me
@@idudas80 It does use about 30W when the machine is powered on with the group heater running.
Best, Jon
Hi Jon, the fresher the bean, the coarser you'll grind. No issues here. Cheers!
With my Bambino plus, they recommend releasing the residual water in the wand before steaming. Would that be the same with this machine? Thanks.
Impress better at auto micro foam?
Also great review - thanks
Great intro !
I don't see a problem. When I'm making cappuccinos for friends in my Lelit setup, the most fun part is when I manually make silky milk froth.
I noticed the miicoffee or Turin legato v2 is out. Can you get your hands on it and compare with this one too???
Mayyybeee...I see that Coffee Chronicler just did one. 👍
Can you do a review on the kitchen aid KF superautomatics please?

Hi Tom, I purchased the Delonghi dedica ec 685 just a few days ago. I'm getting into coffee so wanted to start with ground coffee & then slowly advance. I have a Papua ground coffee from Indonesia but I'm not able to get much extract. Can it be because of the grind size being too fine that it can't work with a pressurized basket? Or any other reason & possible troubleshoot?
What store is the best place to purchase this? As far as customer service or if I have any issues or any other reasons? I have a Williams-Sonoma in my area as well as other options.
I think for now Breville is only selling it at their website.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner They have them at my local Williams-Sonoma, is that an ok retailer to purchase from? Never used them before.
can you do a review of the quickmill 820 a popular espresso machine in Germany and the Netherlands
What should you do if you get a badly tamped unpolished puck? Is it just a case of tamping it manually before pulling a shot through it?
Yes, I just tamp manually afterwards. Cheers!
What additional accessories would you have liked it to include?
@@fuzziestlumpkin More baskets, single portafilter
@@petrarsenjev9079 Yeah, an actual double (18g) shot basket alongside the 22g that most would consider a triple would have been nice. I don't really see the point in an additional portafilter, though.
Is there anyway to replace the plastic cap on the shower screen for a metal option?
Good question, I don't know.
Bedankt
Thanks for your support!
Does the ninja lux do a better job foaming milk automatically?
No... Different. The Ninja had a wisk in the pitcher.. I say they are fairly even with auto milk but the Sage has more milk frothing options.
@@mamadouaziza2536sage has more options but non of it work. The methods is different but does it matter? at the end of the day, if it can make good foam it is good method

Few questions
1. How is it for single dosing, is there much retention? I have a single dose mod on my BBE and hope there's something similar for this in the future
2. If I take out the spinning fan for the Puck prep could I dose into a portafilter for manual Puck prep?
I don't think this design is suitable for single dosing. You really need to use a different grinder.
@@thisismyday287 non of the breville machines are by default. But there are simple mods that essentially make them single dose.
Thanks!
Is the impress better for auto or coached dosing than the Oracle (jet)? TY
@@steelgtr The OJ is better in my experience, as I found the BTI would sometimes overdose. The OJ does it by volume, which seems to work better for me.

I’m considering moving on from having *both* a barista express and a creatista plus (for the auto milk) but I’m getting the vibe that this isn’t the one.
# Oracle Jet…another good review and video Thanks Tom!!
I'd agree with Fuzzie's statement, although replacing a screen will be more cost intensive.
@@fuzziestlumpkinsome people just don’t like touch screens, usually older people. I still haven’t met a person who’s had an electronic device with touchscreen issues.
Just repair it. It’s not that hard.
Does it have WiFi or BT?
Could they not fix the issue with the auto milk via software?
I can't imagine so. It seems to be the length of the steam wand that is off. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I just bought the Oracle Jet and I honestly think that you might have a faulty auto milk in the machine. I’ll be releasing a video next week on how to adjust the dose.
@@TomsCoffeeCornerI don't want you to spoil your video, but is the short answer "don't bother and just buy a lower dose basket"?

It says it can do hot chocolate in the menu ? How ?
Cheers!

I've had the same disappointing experience with steaming, for what it's worth. Anything above level 4 with dairy milk is just a large-bubble fest at the top, liquid at the bottom. Levels 1 to 4 have a more normal bubble size, but still, quite liquid and bubbles remain unincorporated through most of the milk. I have to do a lot of swirling to get anything decent, and that's a poor substitute for a normal vortex.
Just wonder have you tried auto steaming but holding the jug at an angle to get a vortex going?

Definitely disappointing a $2000 machine can't have a better auto froth mode, I wonder if an update could help? I mean surely their engineers knew it was subpar milk frothing for months or years of its development?
I have the Jet, the milk frothing is amazing compared to my old machine, which makes me thing the review unit is defective.
@@TJ-kj8ob Manual mode definitely always has benefit of introducing air then incorporating the big air bubbles while spinning the milk at an angle but yeah I don't know why an automated froth mode from a very high end machine made by an experienced company couldn't more or less solve on how to recreate that.
