  • A few little bits on how i painted my mates land rover. I'm no expert but that is a good bench mark to see how hard the job is to do your self. this isn't a restoration job but looks 20 years newer after the job is done. a bit of prep masking and paint and the land rover looks good for another 5 years.

    Back in the 90s in Australia, we buy Industrie enamel. Which was a lead based enamel. Very hard and stay shiny for many years. I heard today guys are buying cheap oil-based enamel and adding 2pak harder to it. Very cheap and long lasting.

    Not sure if you mentioned but it would be great to have seen the process before this. I'm assuming it was orbital sander or did you have things sand blasted or anything and then assuming there will have been filling, more sanding cleaning and then the primer?

      David Dirom I'm pretty sure they are Dutch issue. It's the same pattern as British Dpm but the material is twice as thick and they have better buttons and stitching. I got them from a surplus shop in mexborough but they can't get any more. At £9 they make grate work ware.

  • @davidgenthnerjr4995
    @davidgenthnerjr4995 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video Rich. Yeah 120 grit scratches won't hurt that. We used to scuff all the 5 ton cargo trucks with 180, and that CARC paint would fill every bit of it. Is that actual military grade flat paint or auto part store satin paint you sprayed?

    • @Bugoutvehiclesuk
      @Bugoutvehiclesuk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Genthner Jr it's an old school enamel 1k paint so it sticks well and fills the small sanding scratches after the grip coat.

    Great video, could have done with someone who knew what they were doing looking over my shoulder when I sprayed Wylf. Great idea! So I have a question, I used metal paint on the roof and I did it on my drive. It was quite late when I finished (21:30) and I mixed the paint with acstone. Anyways the next morning the roof should have been gloss black but turned out Matt? Any idea what happened?

    • @Bugoutvehiclesuk
      @Bugoutvehiclesuk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan Lloyd at a guess it was the cold damp air that has affected the chemical reaction where the thinners is still escaping the paint. I'v got it on my rear step where it warned a few hours after I painted it and you can see the droplets. Best thing to do is pick a sunny day where the sun can bake it midday to speed the reaction up.

      Optimistic Nihilist the series two would have been mat if it’s military but it never lasts long so I always use the 1k satin paint. It’s trade paint on eBay under military Land Rover paint.

    • @Bugoutvehiclesuk
      @Bugoutvehiclesuk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Morrall I only usually etch primer the bits that go back to metal but the guy who prepped this did everything. Can’t complain tho it still looks well to this day.

    • @jamesmorrall6834
      @jamesmorrall6834 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bug out vehicles UK thanks, yeah looks a great job! So I would be okay using etch primer over a mix of bare metal and key’d paint like this video? Only I bought etch primer and hi build primer, was planning on etching the lot then hi build on top before the enamel paint. But if etch worked on this vid I’ll stick to that.

    • @Bugoutvehiclesuk

      James Morrall just make sure the primer has time to cure so it doesn’t react

    Great vid, just come across it, and it’s given me the confidence to do my series myself. Where’d you get the paint from? Also, all paint vapour and the dude at the end not wearing a mask, I’m not sure that’s the greatest idea, but I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to safety - I tend to want to protect my lungs! I’m pretty sure this paint is really toxic, so please do wear a mask….

    • @Bugoutvehiclesuk

    That looked so easy... But , then again you buggers know what you're doing . Last time I used my spray gun it was on the decking and fence. Almost 'spray tanned' the neighbour. Stupid fucking place to sunbathe when some twat on crutches is jigging about wafting a 'loaded' spray gun about. I did tell her the darker brown shade I was using was a nicer finish than the dodgy orange she usually ended up having... I even offered to fill in the white bits for her... She didn't seem impressed really. A mystery that .No pleasing some folk .
    Is it an oversprayed one coat job Rich , or multi-coat ? Looked like the prep, especially the masking off, took way longer than the spray-up .
    Looks really good. nice one.

    I cringe ,,,, 2 seconds in and the chap is sanding without a block... always always use a block ,, your finger will leave little gullies and indents, and will take away the paint before you hit any high spots and gorge deeper. Also if you hit metal you have gone too far ... and what is with 120 grit ... what are you sanding ,,, a wooden post ,,, hells bells people all that work you have done and you are giving yourself more

    • @Bugoutvehiclesuk
      @Bugoutvehiclesuk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amédée Bollée this has been brush painted for years and was peeling off leaving chunks a few mill deeper than other bits so going round with a 500 grit would be pointless. This is re painting a military Land Rover with military paint not a new Range Rover.

    • @amedeebollee7032
