      I have been told a Land Rover is a great vehicle for an alcoholic - you can drink to celebrate when it starts and you can drink to drown your sorrows when it does not start! But they are classic and iconic. Carl has done a excellent job on the mods!

    I worked for a large Utility Company in the 80s & 90s ... our Land Rover problems were reduced after switching some of the fleet to
    4x4 County Transits which had better payload and towing capacity, and didn't fail as often as the LRs ...

    I was gonna tease you about a multi-day 800 miles, but then saw the roads. More like a few of my motorcycle routes for vacation unless I "Need to get there ASAP" then 1200 miles in one 24 hour drive can happen. Or one year, 514 to Ma and Dad's, 589 to West Virginia, a few days camping in the boonies and riding there, 611 miles or so to my sisters place near Atlanta (via mostly state highways and some backroads, then, because I was sick and didn't want to infect Ma and Dad with it, a 823 mile run back home taking about 13 hours with gas stops.

    Love your video. Tip from me: you are not supposed to lubricate the tow ball. It makes it harder for the trailer to grip the ball. Instead, polish it with some sand paper.

    • @royblackburn1163
      @royblackburn1163 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you should with standard fittings , metal to metal dry has no damping effect it just creates excessive wear, don't confuse them with Alco/ caravan type that have built-in friction pads.

      I have often seen comparisons of Toyota Land Cruisers compared to Land Rovers. I have a Lexus LX450 which is an 80 series Land Cruiser and it has over 500,000 miles on it. It has triple lock differentials and I honestly can say that it is built the way all vehicles should have been built. It has stood the test of time and it still holds its value. I have a third generation 4Runner 4x4 with over 300,000 miles and it is just like a new. I ran a compression check the other day and it has 185 PSI in each cylinder (3.4 liter 6 cylinder). Toyotas are tough!!!!!

    Hi just wanted to say have missed your videos.
    Always interesting and educational. A little anecdote about the Land Rover Defender. A friend of mine his wife is from England her first car was a Land Rover Defender. And when the 70th Edition model arrived, she bought a new black one with a diesel engine. To experience his youth again. And she did.... As she said it was just like before, no soundproofing rattled. I went along a few times and my old tractor David Brown 990 Selectamatic I sat more comfortably in.🤭 Looking forward to your new videos. greetings from Sweden

    My Jag F-Pace blew up a few weeks ago with a "Reduced Power" message. Turbo bearing failed on a turbo that was replaced under warranty 10k miles ago.... Last time it happened, it cost $17k... Just the hassle of dealing with car breakdowns is stressful and a time sink, never mind the cost. Hope you are well, chronic illnesses suck, BTDT.

    very interesting I had a similar experience coming back from Manchester being at the side of the road for 3 hrs. The Land Rover was not heavily loaded and had only 30 000 on the clock virtually the same age as yours. Ashcroft Engineering has a lubricated replacement but mine was replaced by the main agent for £1260 !! For a little more money the Land Rover could have been a really good vehicle and I have had to replace fittings that rust and a poor front bumper that rusted badly. Still like driving it though. Happy motoring.....

    Two things about Land Rovers. 1) They WILL break down at some point (ask the Army) and 2) They they are the most amazing "kit" car that is so able to be manipulated that you'll spend your life repairing, upgrading etc. (that goes from the experience of coming a family of farmers in the North of Scotland). They're almost "expected" to need repair/upgrade.
    Another skill-set for your bio/resume/c.v.
