I am so glad that I got to take a few lessons with one of his best students. His name was Andrej Metsnakov (idk how to spell his last name not gonna lie). He came hear feom the Ukraine YEARS ago and taught in Mansfield, Ohio for awhile. He had many pictures of him from childhood all the way to adulthood doing lessons with Andres Segovia.
When I was a kid my friends who played all wanted to be Jimi Page. I wanted to be Segovia. When I first started playing my dad brought home a double album called The Ten Masters of the Guitar and when I heard Segovia doing Malaguena I was blown away. I wanted to be able to play like that so badly. This clip shoes just how effortless he made it look. A true master for the ages.
Pardon the type-o I can so relate to your comment. I had my brother Victor who was the best friend I had guiding me . He would then teach me what I needed by feelings what grabbed my heart. He could envision what I would have to learn by truly feeling what he heard me try to do with a guitar. We lived Segovia,Montoya and Nono00
Pardon the typos. I had my brother Victor he couldn't see what I needed to learn by hearing what I was trying to play so he taught me what do with my right hand I was six and he led the way to Segovia Montoya and Nino Dela Cante
His changes of color and articulation are unmatched. Even more incredible is how he is able to superimpose secco and legato on top of each other. Most modern guitarists cannot switch so fluidly, or so tastefully.
One of the thing about Segovia is that he is instantly recognizable regardless of whether he was playing a Hauser or Ramirez. Though very different instruments (both wonderful), the sound was truly created in his musical understanding or vision of what it could be, his technique and an artistic soul
Muchas gracias.
He had a son in his late 70s like Anthony Quinn. They were latin plus their generation had millions of semen cells more than we do now. No pollution or chemicals and no TH-cam.
this is one of the rare miracles committed to tape. for anyone who wishes to better understand the melancholy Spanish soul, I can make no better recommendation than the essay on Duende by the great and extraordinary poet Lorca
This is, after Segovia's all Bach programme, my favorite music. What I like in Segovia is that there is no embellishment, even in his baroque pieces they are very sober, laconic almost.
I suspect they asked Segovia how much it would cost for him to play the entire piece, then asked him to play it without the introduction or any of the repeating passages. That's the only way they could afford him, and it cut the time of the performance in half. Which is a shame, because Sor put repeating sections in many of the variations with the intention of allowing the performer to introduce his or her own diversity of interpretation each time a segment was repeated. Never mind. It's all over and done with pretty quickly by Segovia in this video.... I wish he'd spent less time talking and more time playing the piece as it is actually scored. He's a much better player than a talker.
Infatti, io ho risposto a tutt'altra questione. Saluti.
Ok ok, he was an excellent musician. We can agree on that. But he deserves to be criticized for the arrogant statements about other musicians, other styles of guitar, and even for supporting Franco. The tone….the tone….the tone….If only I could play like that, the style is of an era , but the emotion and the tone….thank you Maestro…
A lot of the warmth and fuzzyness you hear is from the compression of the recording.
His interpretation is so fluid. There is no better.
Segovia has no equal ! The sound he made , will echo in the ears of guitarists for eternity !
It echoes half as long as it should, because they had him talking too much and cutting out all the repeating passages in the work. Which is a pity.

Excelente 👏👏👏
It doesn’t get any better than the Maestro.
The Best!
Tons of talent, the best guitar ever made (now in a museum). Oh, and he practiced 4 to 6 hours a day. There is that.
I saw his Hauser in the MET while in NY

Segovia was born holding a guitar
Impressionante, como tocar com tanta facilidade!?

How could he learn to play when before he wasn't even born yet.? Who is this guy?
