I can’t do math apparently! If you noticed that I mentioned removing tape at a “45 degree angle” you’ll know I meant 90 degrees 🤦🏻‍♂️😅

Omg thank you! I was watching all these watercolour artists literally placing masking tape over their watercolours and peeling it off cleanly and I just couldn’t comprehend it. Just peeling masking tape off the unpainted edges has been such an issue for me 🙈

My pleasure! I really hope these tips help! You weren’t by any chance watching Kelogsloops taping over his entire Sailor Moon painting were you? That gave me such anxiety 😅

@@Finelinernerd Yes! Wow, I would say I can’t believe it, but actually Kellogsloops is such a big deal I shouldn’t really be surprised 😂 But in all seriousness I really love your channel; your personality and your art, seriously beautiful work. Thank you so much for sharing with us 💖💖

I got really worried that your tips would all only apply to not yet stuck on masking tape, but thank god the last hack works for already applied tape!
I have a huge watercolor and gouache painting that still has tape on it and I was too afraid to peel it of, thank you for that video ohmygod

Hi Kiwi! Yeah I wanted to give a few different options so I’m glad you watched to the end, I hope your painting survives 🤗 even with the gentle heat take it slow and stop if it starts to tear and apply a bit more heat. Best of luck! 🖤

Thanks for sharing your hard-earned knowledge! I've had some mishaps with masking tape and damaged some of my earlier art attempts before.

arches is my favorite as well 👍🏼 i like using the painters tape in the wall paint supplies section. It works perfect

Is that the slightly stronger stuff than the masking tape from stationery stores?

    • @shannonsteele6780

Painter's tape is typically blue (in the US) and has slightly weaker adhesive: marketed and sold for helping keep clean lines in house painting. I mostly see it used to hold drop cloths in place to keep wall paint from getting on the floor or on other walls. It's great to temporarily hold something light on a wall or other surface without leaving any marks; which is why it's a reasonably popular tool for artists as well.

I never thought about using cello tape, it doesn’t make the edges yellow does it? 🖤

@@Finelinernerd Oh sorry, maybe my dictionary has failed me, maybe it's not called sellotape. I was using the clear (or foggy, writable) tape from the brand Tesa because it was what I had. I think I know what you mean, though. I only know clear sellotape to turn yellow and viscous-sticky after many years. Maybe my sellotape is high quality, but I haven't noticed any yellow stains so far (after a year or two) from my paintings. I guess it's a risk if there's any residue left on them, but I don't see any residue on my pictures. And I think all tapes' glue would turn yellow after some years.

That’s true that all glue will probably go yellow, even masking tape, but I know the kind of tape you’re talking about with the foggy side, it’s great that it works and might try it one day 🤗

I wish you had told what brand of tape works best.

Lots of watercolorists in my part of the world use blue painter's tape instead of masking tape. I myself like the neutral tone (and cheaper price) of regular masking tape; so my trick is to wrap it around my arm and wrist a few times, then unwrap it and place it down on the paper. That way, the oils from my skin take away the stickiness just enough to keep it from adhering too much, but enough to keep washes from seeping through. That being said, if you have hairy arms, this might be as effective as the aforementioned clothing method. Hehe.

Blue painter's tape isn't available in all parts of the world and buying a single item on the Internet is too expensive.

    • @LauraGYoung
      @LauraGYoung ปีที่แล้ว

@@graziacavasino8884 - Indeed! :) Blue painter’s tape is more expensive that regular masking tape even here in the States. (That’s another reason I use regular masking tape, myself.)
