I bought this on sale for $29.99 like 2 years ago cause I needed something small to trim my palm trees. So far its done that and even cut some hard wood with no mechanical issues.
I work for a landscaping company in Arizona. I bought a similar cheap electric saw from a Walmart seller. I don't expect it to take trees, it's great for cactus 🌵

i got 20 acres of mixed trees, pines, oak, and others. like to carry the little 6 inch around when moving either on the tractor or the zero turn for the face level limbs that steal my hat but forget about after mowing and never remember to get later. easy to use in the moment.
I went and modded my M12 hatchet and switched out the bar/chain with the M18 8” bar/chain. I love this new setup!

@@Shoptoolreviews I saw the mod on another channel and they used the pole saw 10” bar and chain. I tried it using my Ryobi pole saws 10” bar/chain. It worked but because it’s not a “full house” chain it wasn’t as smooth cutting. Now that Milwaukee came out with the M18 8” hatchet, that bar/chain works much better! No…thank you for making the great videos that have helped me in many tool decisions!
My dad bought me one of those cheap ones as a gift. It actually works great next to my wood chipper. Handy to cut down a branch real fast. Wish I could figure out the battery pattern so I could 3d print an adapter for a better battery.
I just bought a similar 4 inch saw. Probably has the same motor, so maybe not worth paying for a longer bar. But I think there is a place for tools like this. Harbor Freight exists and sells tools like this. I shop at Harbor Freight for stuff like this. More or less these would be once a year or maybe less often than that, maybe just once period. I'm not paying $200 more for a tool that might save me 15 minutes. I think if you have a large property with a lot of trees, something made by a company with a brand name would be worth paying more. I would also think something for camping would be a good case for something for clearing trails or gathering wood for the campfire would be fine for tool like this.
I know it was suggested that you could use loppers to cut a 2 inch branch. I own a pair of lopper that will do this. But those loppers cost more than chain saw I just bought. It was on sale. But I actually would buy one of these thing on sale, not full retail. I will say that I also have a larger chainsaw. I also have a battery powered polesaw with a similar size bar. But the issue is that if you're on a ladder, you need a one handed tool. None of the tools mentioned will owork on that ladder. The big chainsaw won't work, the big ol' loppers won't work, nor witll the polesaw. You could easily fall off he ladder and the last thing I want to do is fall while I have any of these tool in my hand. So spend $40 for the small 4 inch model like I did is a bargain. If I need something more, I'll buy it then. But clearly, that saw does cue more than the suggested 2 inches. I wouldn't cut a thick 3 or 4 inch branch into pieces. But I might cut the branch down then use a proper chainsaw to cut it into manageable pieces once off the ladder.
I bought the Milwaukee M12 purely for pruning, I find it excellent! Unfortunately, in the UK, the M18 was just too expensive!
My sister bought me one of these and it lasted less than a year. It worked well, until the chain drive cover desintegrated, where the bar nut clamps it on the bar. I oiled the bar and chain approximately every 15-20 minutes, using bar oil. Apparently the oil affected the plastic. I called the USA number they give you and they didn't have any parts available. They didn't offer me a replacement. I guess they were made as throwaway units. I purchased another brand which has a manual oil system. So far so good.
Maybe for someone who does not have the strength for loppers, I would get the Milwaukee because I am already invested in that platform.

I often wonder if these companies that produce, brand, market, and or sell these Chineseium made products have anyone on their staff that can pick up on the sometimes oh so subtle American sense of humor and sarcasm. Judging by the way things are written, I think not. That said though I do truly enjoy these reviews and comparisons and love to see when a truly good or even great unknown product is discovered. Project Farm, and TTC have both found great Chinese, Taiwanese and other country produced products that truly are awesome regardless of the price point and country of origin. I own, use, and truly enjoy some of these products myself. Keep up the great videos and more like this please!
My girlfriend bought 1 of these saws. It worked well until the battery connector broke off. It's extremely fragile at the joint between the handle and battery.
why don't they oil the chain like on big chansaws?
you have to try the goldsea 8 inch, 80 bucks for a real brushless that I think it's on the same level of the Milwaekee
If you get this mini chainsaw best to get the brushless version, has more power and the batteries last longer.
Pretty sure your supposed to oil the chain again after around 3 cuts so that might help you.
Need m12 vs dewalt vs m18 for this. I feel like that order but be the order of the results as well but who knows
Would be interesting to see this up against the M12 hatchet. Yeah it's unfair in that it's 10.8V v. 18V but the M12 hatchet ain't cheap, that's for sure. Still costs like 3x the price of this, tool only. Heck you can get this Amazon cheaper with just one battery and without the case--$40! But in between these extremes also lies the new Ryobi HP that comes in at $150 which may actually give some good bang for the buck.
about 3 yrs ago, i needed a one handed small recip, i search sorted amazon, i bought as i often do the Cheapest one handed recip with LiOn battery and charger, about $30. Many people have used it at work, electrical construction mainly commercial, it has parts broke off and glued back on, etc. except for using the best possible blade, thats it... still use it today
I recently purchased identical unit in same box , used to package different combination of accessory of items, my came with one battery for $40 at Amazon. I used unit to remove a 90 year old plant " hedge" over 7 ft tall 6 ft in diameter. The plant had 3 vertical trunks and many branches between half inch to 2 inches thick. The largest of the Trunk was just over 6 inches , it was the last cut made. The one battery still had energy lest to cut a few fig palm leafs. I was so impressed the I bought , I believe a newer model , for $10 more dollars. This has a brushless motor , auto oil lube and 2 batteries, no tool chain removal AND. carrying case. Next day price went up $20. Compared to Milwaukee 12v , I many of these platform , I could have bought 4 sets.

Damn! Is it really $80 on Amazon? You could have a chainsaw just like that from China for about $16 with one battery or something like$25 with two batteries. I know what I'm saying cose I got one of those a few months ago.
For me, female, the clipping tools is getting to hard so using for 1 to 2 inch is all i need. No it'snot for high projects but perfect when your arm strength is lowering.
$80 flushed down the drain. Ryobi, and Kobalt both make 6" bar & chain chainsaws less expensive than both Milwaukee models.
You said 36 watt hours so a 2 ah would only make it 18v lol. Pretty much knew already tho that the 21 volt was lie they jus wanted a higher number then 20v max lol. Cells are all 4v max and 3.6v nominal so 21v doesnt make sense
HA! LOL I bought one of those cheap mini saws that was some off brand called "wegofly" and it did ok for a little bit. But then I tried cutting up a big tree stump and it locked up on me and never worked again (unlike yours in this video). So the next one I get is going to be a much better one. Either the Kobalt 24v 6inch or the Ryobi 18v 8inch. Both of those are supposed to be really good mini saws.
Have you been smart enough to figure out what size file you need to sharpen the chain?
It is an astonishingly inexpensive set. But I would not expect much durability overall at that likely level of quality, so that may not be a great value long-term. And with no automatic oiler, your bar and chain won't last long, unless you reoil every couple of minutes or so. But if you're only going to do light pruning of a few fruit trees a couple of times a year, it may be OK I suppose. Although, TBF, a good japanese pruning saw like a Silky would cost less and be probably as fast or maybe faster on 1 or 2" limbs.

You should go brushless next time.Anything else won't do the the job on thicker wood.Also can't compare a cheap $85. Chinese saw with a $250. Milwaukee saw.
Comparing a household model vs a industrial model is unimaginable. Guess who is foolish...to start with and to disregard the price difference. Why not compare a Chinese industrial model and again on the price difference.

I think a good rule of thumb is if I can't say the name of the company then maybe I shouldn't be buying anything from them, because chances are there products aren't worth 💩.

I don't doubt it can cut or not, just slower than brand name one. I just worry it will burn down my house while charging the battery. I will not trust a Chinese battery that's not UL-listed.

Not really, there's tons of these China Amazon "mini chainsaw" jobbies with the question of how good are they always popping up--I'm sure STR got a lot of requests for testing this kind of tool.
