I would definitely look into a kitchen designer. When we remodelled our kitchen, we sought design advice from three designers. We chose the one who really heard our vision and had fabulous ideas. No regrets. Our kitchen is timeless and beautifully constructed and designed.
Why paint the cabinets- they will look terrible afterwards. Kitchen designers are expensive however WORTH IT!!
Please skip doing a stone backsplash.. too hard to take care of. Backsplash should be easy to clean for kitchen. Don't do Pinterest.

I can’t remember if I was able to comment on your video about your family growing again (where you announced you were adding baby #8) but I started watching around that time and I have been watching ever since and I love y’all’s content so much! We’re in two totally different places in life, but I’ve love seeing you tackle the hobby farm life! Benji is so stinking cute! I definitely understand not wanting to mess up the kitchen. I totally agree that it’s the heart of the home my mom had a wall knocked out and it changed everything for her, we are always in there now. The only thing I can recommend is not rushing it and trying to find someone.
I think that hiring a designer for the kitchen is a great idea!

Considering how much $ a kitchen reno costs AND its value in resale, I would agree with getting a designer - that's a smart investment.

Kitchen reno idea! for the side of the kitchen you should build a row of floor to ceiling cabinets with one of the cabinet doors being a secret door that leads into a walk in pantry. You can have a utility sink, storage for potatoes and onions, for your canned goods, a step ladder to get to the higher sections.

I have thin brick (real brick that is just cut thin for easier application) as backsplash and all along main kitchen walls. I love it! Easy maintenance and makes kitchen feel so warm. I’d suggest using it in natural places…the wall you mentioned, maybe the columns, but not on the beams. Just paint those to match or compliment your cabinets.

I think that hiring a designer would be great. You guys spend so much time in the kitchen and shoot so many videos in there that it will be worth it. And I bet they'll be able to carve you out some pantry and food storage space. :)

I honestly think hiring a interior designer for the kitchen is a great idea! They can take your ideas and the space you have to work with and make your kitchen the most useable area!

have you thought about making that space into a butler's pantry?? you could add heaps of storage space for everything.
I agree with your suggestion. It has always seemed like such a wasted and under utiluzed area. If a wall was erected, there could be so much shelf space added.

Angie, I strongly encourage you to get a professional kitchen designer. Hubby and I have no design sense, and this gal got to know our tastes and did an amazing job. The details matter, like “your dishwasher will be here, so your silverware drawer will be here.” I can’t tell you how helpful that has been over the past 14 years!! She took us places and she guided us through choosing backsplash, countertops, faucets, cabinets, pulls for said cabinets, etc. these people think of things that you never would. Our project grew to other areas of the house (not thru any pressure from her,)and she was just so so helpful! So glad your comments are back! Do you have an extra fridge fridge or freezer? I can’t imagine feeding 10 people without these!

KITCHEN IDEA: Make that "nook" area a butlers pantry!! you could have a countertop to store larger appliances in, open shelving if you need, a bit more pantry storage etc.cute glass doors or a sliding door and wall to close it off. I like the stone/brick idea too. it would have beautiful light from the windows. Congrats on having comments back also!!!

Definitely get a designer and contractor for the kitchen. They will stir you correctly to not go in a cheap or time-dated look. You will be living in this kitchen for a very long time so this is one area that you want to do right the first time. I hired a designer and I can tell you that I had no regrets and I actually was grateful when they talked me out of a few things that I would have hated later. Also, you might consider the tuxedo look for the cabinets which would be white on top and something darker on the bottom cabinets - like black, dark blue, or a nice green. You would need to match it to your counter-tops if those don't need to be changed out. The countertops look to have black veins in them and that is why I mentioned black for the bottom cabinets (at least the island part) it would be very clean, crisp, and sophisticated.

If you are still considering a brick backsplash I think that is great. Growing up my parents renovated their kitchen and did a brick backsplash that had some kind of shiny type laminate on top so the brick did not have that dried out look. What a great look. I will never forget that kitchen it was gorgeous. It was the farmhouse look before it’s time. Refurbished barn yard wood cabinets. Butcher block countertops and butcher block counter to eat at and barnyard wood paneling with a brick floor. It was so quaint.
With our extra basil, we make a simple basil pesto and freeze it in ice cube trays. We add one or two cubes to sauces all year and get big fresh basil taste! Great way to preserve this beautiful herb.

Yes totally do floating shelves! Also, see is a cabinet guy can make that entire back wall the full size cabinets so it makes it like a pantry. (Like what you have their now but built in and way bigger.) you would lose that back bottom cabinet, but gain wayyy more pantry space.
110% hire cabinet painters it is remarkably easy to screw it up past fixing, but you can go to counter stop/cabinet stores and most have in house design consultants for free! Also look into getting cabinets resurfaced. More expensive but the final result will last forever whereas painted cabinets get chipped and scratched.

I can see the kitchen in a light stain and whitewashed brick the issue with doing the kitchen over is Where do you eat while the work is being done? One client set up a camp-type kitchen in the garage. That will be fun, I know you and Cr could do it I loved the chalk paint you did on the bedroom cabinet. Depending on your needs, floor to ceiling cabinets on the two walls (cabinet pantry) and a window seat with extra storage under the window could be a option for quite a bit more storage. A white wash might lighten the cabinets without completely covering the current stain color.
Angie... Home Depot has kitchen "specialists that come to your house to hear your " wants" and can tell you if that work work or why not...you pay through "home depot" ..as the store is a chain, its cheaper..and I'm sure discounted if supplies are purchased through the srore,. Then you and CR can decide if you guys think what has been suggested is doable between you, or ha the specialist do it...if no HD close in your area, Lowes may offer the same..? Our chickens LOVE frozen corn on the cobb from the supermarket and nice and cold for them in the heat of the summer.
