I’m afraid the cleaner may have broken down the finish on the cabinets, that causes the film. The finish degrades as it ages and kitchen grease helps it along ,so stronger cleaner starts removing the finish. My dad and my husband both owned custom cabinetry businesses and both always recommended dampening acloth with a small amount of dish soap in warm water for cleaning and drying immediately as you go.
I have noticed when you talk about your house or different things you do not boast or brag. Lots of people on TH-cam do boast and brag Thanks for being humble
I love watching your videos. We're kindred spirits for sure. Your "boring" housekeeping vlogs are my favorite when I really need a body double to get mine done.
YES PLEASE show us cake making! I trust you to make a cake that actually tastes good and I'm also wondering how you do the decorations! Also I just want to say your videos always bring a smile to your face. I really enjoy and connect with your humor and silliness. You had me at "Feral" Homemaker. :)
Yep... breakdown of the finish. Mine did that too. 😢 Decanting like a gorilla..😂 Bwahahaha! I adore you. And, yes, share all the cake creations, plz & thank you!
I enjoy the asmr sounds and the "perfect" esthetic look of those restocked videos you were talking about. -But that is a pretend world. I loved seeing your real world freshly cleaned and organized family refrigerator. Thank you for that breath of reality in this oh so plastic world.
Pretty sure your cabinets are clean but the finish that was used is breaking down and it will get tacky/sticky and streaky. The more chemicals you put on the worse it will be because each time you are breaking it down more. Using the steam on wood is not the best idea either. The only way to fix the cabinets is to strip them or sand them and refinish or paint them.
I havent seen you for ages.I remember when you adopted Rosie and you said shes coming up 13!!I havent been all well but feeling loads better then I havebeen.I hope you are all doing fine.Lovely to hear your voice.Greetings to Christopher and kids❤❤❤❤❤
For the cabinets: if that is an oil stain or a poly stain, that BIN primer will not work. I have tried it on my kitchen cabinets. Just redid my kitchen and had cabinets that were acting exactly like this. Unfortunately the only thing we could do was sand. Sand. And sand some more. Legit 2 weeks of sanding. Then 3 layers of priner and 2 layers of paint. Because those oil or poly stains seep so far down into the wood. Its a lot of work. For the horse waterer: maybe try a float. Like a toilet or washer float and that way you can hook it up to the hose and it will turn the hose off when the float indicates its full 😊
Ha were in the last week before we start schooling again and I have been almost nesting lol I just need everything to be organized and clean before we start a new semester. We’re deep cleaning bedrooms washroom and going through clothes to get rid of or organize. Once we start homeschooling that’s my focus so this is our reset.
I think your cabinet dilemma is just as you said, there's an issue with the finish and it may need to be stripped and redone...thanks for your videos! I truly enjoy watching 😊
Oddly satisfying, yes! All the cleaning to me was oddly very satisfying! If you have never tried Beyond Paint, it is amazing. It is self-leveling and very durable. I did our farmhouse kitchen with it and the cabinet paint survived a tornado. I highly recommend it. You do not have to sand before, either. You just make sure there is no grease on the surface, then paint using either a brush or roller or both, and then seal it with their sealer. The self-leveling means that there are never any brush strokes.
I think the cabinets need to be stripped and refinished, that would drive me insane too! When you redo them just use warm water with a little dish soap to wipe them over with a dampened cloth or a mild disinfectant 😊
I have a Bissel steam thingy too, and they are recalled due to burn potential. The top, where you our the water in, (and is under pressure) can pop and burn. :) Stay safe.
Try washing those cabinets with Murphy’s oil. After that you could find or use a good wood shine even olive oil is great condition wooden cabinets, especially ones that are losing their urethane.
Another bit of advice. Lightly rub the harsh areas of urethane with a piece of sand paper. Basically lightly sand your whole cabinets before throughly conditioning. Before you condition you could also re-urethane at this point.
Or.. You should condition before you urethane, but let the conditioner set and soak in for a while before you urethane them to get the best glossy look. I grew up with all hard wood everything in our old victorian style homes. And my father finished everything when we moved in completely sanded, the hardwood floors and all of the wooden fixtures all throughout the house conditioned and then urethaned. Then to clean use Murphy oil. And a wood good wood polish.
Omg! Angie I need to clean my cabinets- I’ve been trying to amp myself up for it. Got the crud cutter to do the job. Maybe in the next week I’ll have the energy to get this done. 💖
Kids refridgeraters me think of the movie Richie Rich. I'm watching you clean your fridge as I get ready to clean mine- it's just life and I appreciate seeing that.
Just use dawn and water in a spray bottle. Let it sit and come back and scrub. Cabinets get thay film. It's annoying and just part of life. Dawn and a lot of elbow grease. Or, just use rough sandpaper, a low grit, and sand the crap out of them at first. Then move up in grit numbers and they'll come out nice. It is probably the finish on your cabinets making them hard to clean.
I agree with others about the issue of your cabinets being that the finish is degrading. Dish soap works well for me & we refinished our cabinets by sanding them down & then painting them. I am totally “your people” as I truly enhjoy your videos even ones that you think might be “boring” to us. 😊
Try putting contact paper or press n seal on the shelves of the fridge! I have a “clear frosted” contact paper I found at I think Walmart that I put on the shelves as I have a similar fridge interior. It takes half the time to clean off AND if it is too gross, you just peel it off and put fresh stuff on. I’ve had mine on for over 2 years and I have yet to have to replace any of it. It also lets me wipe the fridge down in less than a minute!
The old finish is getting taken off by the cleaning products. Let it dry and get some super fine Steele wool and use it dry over the cupboards.. you will get all the gunk off the ones on the right you might have to sand down and refinish. I used a damp cloth with some Murphys oil instead of sealing and just had finish and cleaned with soap and water on a damp cloth after using the supervise Steele wool.
I was a kitchen & bath designer for several years. Depending on the cabinet brand, there could be a baked on top coat. It is incredibly difficult to sand or strip and repaint or refinish. It takes a lot of work to get a finished product that looks nice if you want to change the look.
Oh my gosh, I am a gorilla when I do things, too! I am so glad to hear someone else say it LOL! Seriously laughed when you said that because sometimes I wonder, "What the heck is wrong with me???" HA!
Cog Hill Farm puts wrist bracelets made of rubber band retractable around the faucet. When they turn on the water the band goes on the wrist….they never forget to go back and turn it off and put band back on faucet head.
I read online that a combination or baking soda, warm water and lemon juice might help with your cabinets. I haven't tried using that combo but I might try it on my cabinets tomorrow. It seems like it would leave the kitchen smelling good too. Also, the steam shot got recalled because so many people got burned. Bissell is offering a $40 refund or $60 to use online at the Bissell store. I know that because I just submitted my recall info yesterday. And lastly, where did you get your bigger glass jars you use to store your baking essentials? I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to organize my life and I feel like those would be really helpful. I love your channels because you keep things real and relatable and for that I'm grateful😊❤️
I had the same problem with mine. The only way I got rid of it after years of trying...I had to sand them down and stain them again😕. They looked beautiful ❤ afterward, but so much work.😜
The Bissell Steam Shot was recalled due to minor burn injuries because hot water can come out of the top of it while in use. I have one too and use it to clean my bathroom.
I got that notification on my Amazon account. I don’t think I want to send it back. I guess I could wear gloves to protect my hands. As long as it doesn’t explode??
I love how people live where the humidity is insane yet continue to do it. Here's a word of advice, if you don't enjoy where you live, just move! I lived in a place that snowed 7 months a year, that a little much for someone that grew up in Southern California. One day I told my husband we should move down the mountain, he said that's a great idea. So we did!
How do you plan out your bigger/more intentional home tasks like this? Like do you put house projects on your calendar and plan out in advance? I need help with doing things like this in the midst of homeschooling & 4 kiddos at home 😂
Regarding your cabinets, as others have said, the cleaners may have damaged the finish. But short of stripping and re-varnishing them, have you tried applying some furniture polish like Pledge? My family had a lot of wooden furniture, and Pledge would go a long way to covering some varnish sins and making the finish on our cabinets look better.
I love how you say a “feral” homemaker 😍 Also, the HUMIDITY is nuts here in the south 🍑 You really can’t walk from your car to a store without getting a “sweat stash” 😅
Ms. Angie!!!! You could drown breathing that humidity!!!!!! When I was a young girl I did barrels and poles on my apaloosa.....ANYHOW....EVERY SINGLE TIME I would go out to turn the water on in his four legged bathtub......he waited until he know I wasn't expecting him....and he would push me with his head into said bathtub...........its a good thing I loved him so much!!!! I even had my cousin do water a couple of times, thinking.I was quite the prankster, but NOPE. It was only me he would play with. I know it sounds strange, but I miss those days/animals ✨🌠
Omgosh, girl I got the Bissell steam cleaner recall too .. ugghhh I'm just not sure what to do. Guess I'll contact Amazon and see. Def. Is a bummer! I ain't got time for this!! Haha @Angie, one of the channels I watch also has a hard time remembering water, they got some of those plastic stretchy spiral bracelets like the kids wear or keychains are also made from them and put a bracelet on each of their spigots handles, when they turned it on, they put the bracelet on their wrist, and it reminds them water is on. When they went to turn it off, they put the bracelet back on the handle, ready for next time. Wanted to share, maybe that will help. Thank you for another great post.
Scrubbing wood and using strong cleaners isn't going to help the cabinets. The finish is damaged. Sand and refinish but use marine/outdoor varnish as the finish coat. Then just damp clothes with a little dish liquid or very gentle cleaner to maintain. Don't spray cleaner on cabinet directly. Too much moisture for wood. Vinegar also damages the finish.
QUESTION Please?…..would you please be willing to share the colors for your garage….it looked so esthetically pleasing to the eye….long time 73 year old Happy Ager here in the PNW…..
I nearly died when I saw you spraying a commercial cleaner into your fridge. I am 68 years old and have never heard of doing that. We have only ever used carb soda to clean a fridge and after rinsing it well I put a small cup with a little vanilla essence in there to make it smell good. I remember my sister used dish soap to clean her fridge once and the smell from the soap tainted all her food. She had a terrible time getting the smell out and having her food safe again. I’m going to assume that the cleaner you used didn’t have harsh chemicals or strong soap smells. 😊😊 carb soda works amazing and is so cheap too.
For your kitchen cabinets and any hard to clean things - Norwex cleaning paste with your envirocloth. Let me know if you want a sample. I'll be glad to mail it
I decant everything into Ball 1 qt to 1/2 gallon jars. I buy Amazon Office labels and use Sharpie pens to write my own labels. Reasonable cost and always have labels on hand. Sounds like you compromised a lacquer finish. Try 0000 steel wool with white vinegar. You’ll be unhappy if you don’t sand the cabinets before painting.
I wonder if your cabinets were waxed. There are some products like minwax or "Restor-a-finish" that can be sold as fixes for wood furniture finishes. It works well, but it doesn't last.
I'm a professional cleaner and the Dawn degreaser is pretty intense and the oven cleaner really should be used with safety glasses and gloves so use caution! The cabinets are probably just so worn that they can't come out perfectly, you can't make old things new with cleaning unfortunately.
It looks like the varnish on the cabinets has broken down… maybe with age . The more you scrub the more you are breaking it down. A top notch primer is the way to go 👍
Wondering if maybe someone used wax on the cabinets, I had a table that’s finished was ruined because the previous owner used wax on it. It would turn white if it got damp, and it would dry out fine. and had a permanently dull look to it.

Murphy’s oil soap helped me strip all the gunk off my 120 year old banister. It was super funky. It helped so much!

There are beautiful labels on the bags you’re pouring from. Just cut those out and tape them on your jars.
Murphy's Oil Soap. Watch another big family, The Wads, and that is what she uses to wash her cupboards.
Please share the cakemaking 😍
Cleaning my kitchen alongside you. Thanks for the company! ❤️
"Two thumbs up! Fine family fun." Good quote from Clueless 😊

Cabinets are the worst to clean! Agreed.
Pop off one door and try it out before tackling the ENTIRE kitchen! I’m always here for a random to do list & chit chat type of video!! 🫶🏻
I love watching your cake making.
So with my cupboards in kitchen and bathrooms, I clean it first with cleaner then go over with the orange glow. It does such a nice job

🇨🇦Yes! to the cake process. Thanks!
Please share the cake pics. Happy Birthday to the girls.
Getting that off is removing the old finish! I had the same problem and tried literally everything everyone said!
I had to laugh at your pan story!! my dad didn't like his coffee cup washed!! it was gross. LOL
Would love to see the cake process!

Maybe try Murphy's oil soap for wood cabinets
The Twins turning 7 and Rosie 13,oh gosh,it seems like that you went to China to adopt her.
The Twins so tiny.😅❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

You'll have to use Citrus strip to get the layers of the finish off, as well as sanding.
I enjoyed this video so much.
You should have used Murphy’s oil on your cabinets.
I love cake videos I make my kids cakes too 😊🎂
Hey Angie, can you share that fantasy fridge restock video? In need of satisfying humor 😉😁

Real life girl. Love your vlogs!
I don't bake, so I enjoy watching you! Trying to bake keto bread with avcadoes!? Enjoy!
I was going to say what you ended up saying about the cabinets. It looks like the gloss finish is coming off. Like it never fully cured to begin with.
Looks great

That doesn’t sound strange at all. That sounds like a wonderful memory of a beloved goof who thought it was funny to get you wet! He loved you.
Omgosh, girl I got the Bissell steam cleaner recall too .. ugghhh I'm just not sure what to do. Guess I'll contact Amazon and see. Def. Is a bummer!

Please come clean my house!!! It looks so satisfying when you do it but then i hate cleaning my own....
I think using a paint/stain remover would help then maybe re stain them or paint them .
Or maybe goof-off would work
For the cabinets, have you tried Murphy's oil? Hugs. I wonder if you've stripped some of the finish by mistake.
I use Murphys oil soap on my cabinets.

I'm a professional cleaner and the Dawn degreaser is pretty intense and the oven cleaner really should be used with safety glasses and gloves so use caution!
The cabinets are probably just so worn that they can't come out perfectly, you can't make old things new with cleaning unfortunately.
I use Murphy oil soap on mine.
Also, don’t feel bad about your jar labeling! I label mine with sharpie on the lid if I remember to label them at all!
It looks like the varnish on the cabinets has broken down… maybe with age . The more you scrub the more you are breaking it down. A top notch primer is the way to go 👍
For the cabinets, could it be the humidity? (Over years?)
Would you do a new car tour and how the kids fit?
If I had backyard chickens my German Shepherd would find a way to eat them. 🙃
Happy Birthday
Wondering if maybe someone used wax on the cabinets, I had a table that’s finished was ruined because the previous owner used wax on it. It would turn white if it got damp, and it would dry out fine. and had a permanently dull look to it.
This happened to our table and we ended up having to sand it & stain it again. 🤦🏻♀️
The gas stove gives off some kind of sticky substance that gets on the cabinets. That’s what happens to ours. It’s annoying!
from the dollar not dollar store Awesome cleaner
I did this with the dawn degreeser too 😵💫😫 it strips the clear coat on it! I am so sorry
Put turn styles in the refrigerator
Hello an wow when did Rosie grow up 13 yrs old already. An the twins r gonna b 7 already wow an yes I think ur cabinets were probably finished but not washed first an hey look horrible from it. But stripping them an refinishing them they would look amazing theyr old wood cabinets tryna not to ruin them too much theyr worth saving ❤😂
An what matter is u an we all know u cleaned them even iffn they don't look the nicest. 😂
Use WD-40 on your cabinets.
👏💕
Cabinets are a goner. The finish has broken down.
